SPPD Arrest Man in Viral McDonald's Video

Shortly after the tussle occurred in the McDonald's, SPPD arrested the man who grabbed the employee.

Here's the whole story:

On Monday, Dec. 31st, around 6:50pm at the McDonald's (located at 4595 34th St. S), a customer and an employee got into a verbal argument about straws.

The customer, Daniel Taylor reached over the counter and grabbed an employee, Yasmine James, who defended herself by punching Taylor in the face as he held on to her shirt's collar. After a short struggle, Taylor and James were separated.

Taylor continued to yell at employees, when the manager asked him to leave the premises.

Before leaving the restaurant, Taylor kicked McDonald's Employee Tateona Bell in the stomach as she stood near the exit door.

Police were called and began an investigation. Officers reviewed video of the incident at the scene.

Shortly thereafter, Comm Center received a call from 1800 34th St. S for a report of an un-armed robbery. When the officers arrived, they recognized the complainant as the same man from the video at McDonald's and took him into custody.

Taylor faces two charges of Simple Battery.

Biandudi watched as an insult-ridden, profanity-laced argument about straws escalated between the customer, a tall white man, and the employee, a young black woman. That’s when she pulled out her phone.

“I said, this is getting a little heated here,” Biandudi told The Post. “I better get my camera ready in case somebody needs to know what happened.”

As soon as Biandudi began recording, the argument turned physical.

McDonald’s corporation. . . has placed Ms. James on leave. . .
Attacked St. Pete McDonald's employee hires Clearwater parking lot shooting attorney
January 3, 2019
[...]
ST. PETERSBURG — The woman who fought off a man who attacked her over a lack of readily available straws in a McDonald’s lobby has hired a prominent local attorney to represent her.

Yasmine James, 20, on Wednesday hired Clearwater-based attorney Michele Rayner-Goolsby. Rayner-Goolsby is also the attorney for the family of Markeis McGlockton, the man gunned down in a Clearwater parking lot last July in an incident that reignited national fervor over Florida’s stand your ground law.
[...]
“While (attacker Daniel) Taylor was arrested, the McDonald’s corporation has yet to release a statement about the incident and has placed Ms. James on leave,” Rayner-Goolsby said in a news release. “This case is a clear example of how white privilege and male privilege too often leave Black women alone to defend themselves in the face of harm.”

Very stressful life. :( A simple wrong straw would probably be enough to make him feel picked on.

I’m sure the Retail Business was a safer place to be in the Customers Are Always Right days.

Transient means he doesn't stay in one place very long, so he likely has a bed to sleep in. He may stay at hotels/motels. His mistake was getting out of bed, IMO.

I wonder if Taylor has a long rap sheet in other cities and in other states. That may be why he doesn't stay in one place for long. He may have warrants for his arrest elsewhere.

I'm glad the employee wasn't fired. Having someone grab your clothing and pull you across the counter would cause anyone to panic. I hope she'll be okay; and also the employee who was kicked in the stomach.

March 8, 2019
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — A Florida man who grabbed a McDonald’s worker by the collar because he couldn’t find a straw was sentenced to 60 days in jail.

FL - Man attacks McDonald's employee in dispute over straws, St. Petersburg, 31 Dec 2018
PUBLISHED 5:00 PM EDT Mar. 27, 2019
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — What millions have seen around the world is all just a blur of patchy memories to Daniel Taylor. [...]
Asked Wednesday his takeaway when looking back at the incident, he laughed and said "I was a drunken idiot." [...]
Taylor said he had been celebrating his 40th birthday all day and all night at the resort next door when he wanted to get some food. [...]
He served 56 days in jail. It was a crime that has been recorded for all time, but remains a blank moment in time for him.
"No, and I don't want to either," he said when asked if he had watched the video, adding it was "mostly from shear embarrassment."
