Angel Colon survivor-my gawd just heartbreaking and horrifying. Shot was it 2 or 3 times in the leg? Then killer shot him twice more as he lay on the floor.

Just want to point out that when the story FIRST broke I kept saying the death count seems very high for a standard "quick" mass shooting. The shooter would have to hit victims multiple times with some level of precision to rack up that many deaths or they would have to die due to blood loss over an extended period of time.

Many others trashed my comments and insisted that random shots fired into crowds could easily cause a 50% fatality rate because even a "leg wound" can kill someone, and a bullet fired into a group could quite easily kill multiple people.

Now it turns out not only did this go on for 3 hours but the killer was in fact making a real effort to deliver fatal up close and personal kill shots, he wasn't just shooting wildly for a brief amount of time (like most mass shootings such as San Bernadino).

The hospital (or one of the hospitals?) said 9 victims arrived either without a pulse or in very bad shape. They were pronounced dead or died shortly after arriving.

Someone asked Dr Cheatham on CNN that he thought most with head injuries didn't make it to the hospital as they didn't see any...

Time to address homophobia among some Muslims

Given the current Islamophobic climate it is wise for Muslims to make their position of peace and tolerance clear, even though it may not be fair

Zuleyha Ozonder, who is Muslim, holds a candle and a sign that references the hashtag "#NotInMyName" to show that many in the Islamic faith support the LGBTQ community during a vigil at Cal Anderson Park in Seattle on Sunday

Per live presser..another doc..

First patient came in was stable patient..then next was not as stable and I called back up trauma surgeon.. and called another one and then it was a flood non-stop so I began to call my other partners .. which was 2 o'clock 3 o'clock in the morning .. at that time he thought 20 + gunshot wounds coming in and told the doctors to come in. After making those phone calls.. we usually only do two ORs at night... What you see up here is about the level of credit that you saw in the emergency department that night.. Many people showing up wanting to know where their loved ones are.. 4-5 patients that we we're not able to save. If people didn't have immediate life saving they were trying to do later. After we got the initial wave of 22 patients we had a lull while the shooter was shooting other people... we restoxked at that time.. after the lull we got another 20 to 25 patients all at one in a second wave that was like the first

I think because it developed into an actual full blown hostage assualt. There have been so many different accounts (which IMO are important). Mainly, was there shooting going on after the initial assualt.

One of the guys who hid in the bathroom reported yes, he shot (over the stall at him- he was hit twice).

I say I wish an accurate report would come out regarding this in that it is my understanding (that is what we have all seen) is the mandate now is to storm in instantly.

If they had been hearing shots after the intial wave, why did they not storm for so long?

Then I think, when I heard they did have communication with him there thinking might be there might be some way to talk him out without any more injuries.

I def think his intial plan was to shoot people outside as they were leaving hop in his car a split. If he had been there so often it is somewhat confusing that he did take out the armed cop first before proceeding -drunk?

It has been "portrayed" that the reentry was a more a result of being surprised that someone shot at him.

He would have, IMO, been able to have a high fatality count with his plan if he waited several minutes for the bar to drain out onto the parking lot. I think he was trying to get into postion to do that when the armed guy saw him and the weapon .

If the 9:30 time is correct (when he arrived that night) it seems his only reason for waiting is for the bar to get busier. In the old days, you really did not get out before 1030 ish, and there were bottle clubs (after 2:00).

speculation on my part

They thought he had a suicide vest if I remember correctly. As it turns out, he didn't. But if he HAD been wearing one and depending on the explosives, it could have leveled the whole place. Leaving such less of a chance for any survivors. JMO.

Another doctor talking
The case is continued throughout the whole day there was no down time.. we opened as many operating princess needed and I appreciate all the nurses and techs coming in..

Another doctor speaking..dr havron.. I got a call and immediately went.. we are used to seeing gunshot wounds but this was somewhat of a surreal experience.. we are given patient after patient after patient.. VOR will be filled with a patient and we would literally walk from that operating room to another operating room and do it all over again.. I can't say enough about how great this institution was.. everything we needed was available.. I cannot be more proud of this team especially our surgical residents.. they work very hard as it is but to answer a call at 3:30 when they were on vacation and when they were tired and already working all week they showed up...

This is what we trained for is a trauma center and we had a plan to address this and a tiered approach based on the number of victims we anticipate.. this was the largest disaster we could have ever imagined.. we implemented the plan that we designed over the years and perfected and practiced.. and I think it worked. the victims were literally three or four blocks away made a tremendous difference in their outcome... getting to a Trauma Center increases percent of survival... The second wave was a different situation where they didn't get here as quickly.. They were brought here by whatever Transportation was available.. qualia surgeons for in the operating room, in the emergency room there was a much larger team of Administrators and support Personnel that were behind the scenes constantly communicating with us to know what we needed. When we had literally exhausted the supplies in the emergency room.. we went to our Logistics people and they got stuff from other hospitals and anywhere if they could. and it was there when we needed it immediately. the escalated from two operating rooms to 6 operating rooms... I would not be surprised if we did not see the death toll rise.. seven patients in hospital six are critical..

Per presser..

Nurses are the true caregivers. We have a pediatric hospital and another hospital on our campus and we had nurses from all of those come to help.. nurses pharmacist and respiratory therapist came in.

We were never any need for Manpower...

It was a very chaotic night but all of us as a team work together and we were able to do a very good job. .

Angel the victim is speaking again.. I'll let people know that you guys have been taking care of me very well

How did your mass casualty drill equate to reality? We do this a lot and we planned for and hope not to get. It is different it's a lot different.

There is still a need for blood

According to Angel this person was heartless and ruthless. Just saying the bodies everywhere and this person was enjoying it I just don't know how. I've heard that he was laughing and other rooms

Did the wounds appear to be close up? I was going over that with the detective yesterday we had small caliber and large calendar. We had some with large tissue loss.

?missed.... I'm extremely proud of EMS and support staff .. it was the worst day of my career and the best day of my career

Dr. just said they saw small caliber and large caliber wounds

That means 2 diff guns

and Yes, media just asked and was answered - shooter was using both guns he had.

This is new - all I've seen was that he only used the AR-15 and the glock went unused.

Guess that's not the case now.

Q..re debriefing..We have grief counselors and I was walking out of the hospital last night and some team members were walking inside crying and I just cant describe how you feel.. when the time comes to hand you just do what needs to be done..

People from Boston and Oklahoma City Bombing have reached out to us concerning counseling..

I am glad they survived, but I imagine the physical recovery will be difficult. Shattered leg bones, for instance.

With all of the ugliness out there, the community resposes and the efforts of the doctors show that tremendous good is out there. Just the changes re the LGBQT population in the last couple of years have shown that people are moving forward.

There are those that are afraid of change and will fight it. However, ther are many things being instituted such as positive approaches to students in schools that I think will make a huge difference in how people view themselves and others.

Per Angel I have received such love and people really have our backs...

Per docs...

?Q .. out of the six patients that are still in the ICU we were making rounds on them earlier this morning.. many are recovering but one or two of those 6 that I would consider to be profoundly ill. The big question is what their long-term outcome will be once we get them out of the hospital. I think they will survive but they will have lasting impact of this to their functionality.

Question for Angel have you ever seen this guy there before.... I have not seen him before but it's scary knowing that someone like this was in there.. I don't want to go to a place like that anytime soon again.. --

per Angel I think you should have a reason to have a gun I believe in protecting yourself but if that is that easy to bring two guns into this place that easy there is something wrong

To Angel.. Have you seen him before.. When he first shot me I never saw him.. I'm from Boston but originally from Puerto Rico.

Per presser...

If they weren't three blocks from the hospital many of them would not have made it...

SIDE NOTE BY ATL... they have learned from Aurora and other mass shootings to throw them in a truck or a police car and not wait for an ambulance!
