Hi all,
A bit off the current discussion here but I was driving home from work tonight and passed a local church. They have a light up billboard the that they use for inspirational messages. This week's message read simply:

WE ARE ORLANDO.

My first reaction was, gee that's a nice show of support. Then it hit me, child of the 60s that I am: THIS IS A CHURCH!!!!! A church showing open support for the LGBT community. Not prayers, but: "WE ARE". As in we are one.

I drive on with the realization thst even ten years ago no church in America or anywhere else would openly stand with the Gay community.

This event was horrific. Unspeakable. But tonight I was filled with a new hope. Maybe 10 years from now bullying different kids and homophobia will disappear as well.

Such a small sign. Such a huge implication.

Ok now I feel like CARIIS with my spaces.

And hey if there is one postive out of this IMO it is this.

The country, rural areas they still do a lot of hate. All this media,showed : That most of us are manly, , we all are not hairdressers, talking with a lisp, with limp wrispts, fluttering our eye lashes, want to be woman, come in all shapes and sizes, work in all walks life, are educated, articlate, (as I spell my way!).

Have meaningful relationships, that stright people go to gay bars to have fun and do. That there are chrurches and pastors etc, who are not freaked out by homseuality.

Break some entrenched sterotypes.

Now, how many folks in Montana are not saying anything other then "them there deserved to get blown up" and/or" turn that off there all goin right darn there to that ole hell"!

........well that is a possiblity as well.

You don't have to be any of the above, We are Americans and we are supposed to love and be kind to one another, that's what I was taught and when something happens like this, I feel nothing for the killer(s). JMO

I understand that. I think it would be more accurate to say that I'm "open to considering that she didn't understand ".

Given the information that she was in special ed, plus the comments from people that know her (linked in prior thread, please don't make me dig!) about her being kinda "slow", etc... leads me to this.

My son, who is cognitively disabled probably influences my feelings. It's hard to explain, but please look into it.

I have friends that were in special ed.

They weren't retarded or stupid....

They also weren't brain dead....

Sandra just didn't care.. her IQ was fine...she was lazy

Cassie wasn't "slow"... she just didn't retain info.....

And Bertie was dyslexic...

Being in Special Ed does not mean you do not know right from wrong or

The FBI and U.S. State Department had released partial transcripts of the four calls with the emergency operator and crisis negotiators earlier on Monday.

then it says

will not release audio of Mateen's phone conversations with the police dispatcher and crisis negotiator.

Noor Salman, 30, called her husband a little after 2am when his mother contacted her and said she was concerned about his whereabouts.

There is no reason for his mother to be concerned unless she was aware he was spiraling downward, unless we are going to say the whole family is on it moo

At that point Mateen responded, telling his wife: 'Do you see what's happening?

When she replied back to that by texting 'no' he wrote: 'I love you babe.'

The first call came at 2:48am and lasted nine minutes. The second call began at 3:03am, six minutes after the first one ended, and lasted 16 minutes, the longest by far.
The final call came at 3:24am and was just three minutes.

Some of the individuals who were being helped by police on the scene shared at that point Mateen's plan to put suicide vests on four of the victims still being held hostage.


They said at 4:29am that Mateen planned to do this in the next 15 minutes

A search of the premises revealed soon after though that there were no improvised exploding devices or vests in the club or in Mateen's car.


The initial plan was for members of the Orlando Police Department and other law enforcement agencies to enter the club and go after Mateen - which they did beginning at 2:08am - but as the body count kept growing they were forced to change their approach.
