CAIR sought information regarding the Sheriff’s Office security detail assignments after the Sheriff’s Office had denied a request by the Fort Pierce Islamic Center for extra protection following alleged threats to the center.”​

Chief Mina asking for Department of Justice inquiry into Pulse shooting

“Chief John Mina has asked the U.S. Department of Justice to assess the Orlando Police Department's response to the Pulse nightclub shooting.

In an interview with the Sentinel on Friday, Mina said he made the decision after talking with other chiefs around the nation who said it's important to have an outside agency look into the response.

One of the questions that will be part of the Justice Department review: When did the gunman stop shooting inside the club?

The FBI and Orlando police have maintained the gunman stopped shooting at 2:18 a.m. But some survivors and dispatch reports from other police agencies indicate that shots were heard up to 16 minutes later.​

“Williams said that one of his firefighters sprung into action, not only as a public servant, but as a father. The firefighter received a call from his daughter, who was inside Pulse during the shooting.

"She was hysterical, like you can imagine. He finally got her to calm down, enough to where she could tell him where she was. He got dressed, jumped in his uniform and came down to the scene," said Williams. The firefighter's daughter was not injured in the shooting.

Williams said his firefighter began to help treat the wounded, something that makes him especially proud of his staff.

"I'm proud. I think that's what it's all about. Service," said Williams.”​

“ORLANDO, Fla. - Pulse nightclub shooting survivor Norman Casiano, 26, is trying to get used to his new normal.

"I can't sleep unless my legs are in an arched position because of the nerve," he said.

The Gay and Lesbian Community Center donated a hospital bed to make him more comfortable at home, and right now he uses a walker to help him get around.

"It feels like it's been a year, not a month, and it's been a whirlwind of different emotions and feelings," he told News 6's Louis Bolden.

Casiano was shot twice at Pulse nightclub. One bullet fractured his pelvis the other his tailbone

One month after the shooting, he says going out in public is still difficult, especially if it's loud and there is a crowd like there was that night.

"So I guess that's just like a trigger," he said. "And my brain automatically freezes and it's like, 'Oh my God, Oh my God, Oh my God,' and my chest gets really tight," he said.

“Tuesday marks 30 days since the final death toll was confirmed by Mayor Buddy Dyer that Sunday afternoon - 49 lives silenced.

“Honestly, we knew it was much more than 20 before that (press briefing), but we didn’t want to put out an inaccurate number," Mina said. "We knew people would be shocked by that and devastated.”

During an exclusive interview with News 6, Mina admitted his toughest decision was “authorizing the explosive breach into the club” and that, to this day, he has not entered the Pulse.

“I didn’t want the images of that crime scene to cloud my judgment," Mina said.

Still he said he will be entering the building “within the week.”​

“Authorities released custody of the Pulse nightclub building back to its owners Wednesday after more than a month of investigation at the site since the June 12 mass shooting.

With the release of the crime scene, Orlando police are "not responsible for guarding the Pulse site anymore," OPD spokeswoman Michelle Guido said.

"If the owners wish, they could hire extra duty [Orlando Police officers] and they have been notified," Guido said. "They could also hire private security if they would like to."”​

“You can’t have that. I’ll make sure that no one gets into that building," said Greene, who was at the club as workers were repairing the lock on the front door.

But when he met his friends, the restaurant's lights and sounds brought back images of the carnage at Pulse — traumatic scenes even for a man who constantly works around death.

"When you see people drinking at a bar, you get a flashback ... you know the scene where there's drinks on the bar, a tip jar, there's receipts, there's hors d'oeuvres, food," he said. "And then ... take all those people away."

Stephany, 41, and his staff are still coming to terms with the work they did that night. Stephany walked into a nightclub where drinks were still on the bar, tabs unpaid. But the walls were pockmarked by bullet holes and the floor littered with bodies.”​

This is interesting:

Mateen admitted to the informants that he had claimed terrorist ties at work. But he said he had been joking, trying to scare co-workers who had bullied him for being a Muslim.
