FL - Mass Shooting at Pulse Nightclub, Orlando 12 June 2016 #5

Dr. Joseph “Joey” Ibrahim was making his rounds at Orlando Regional Medical Center this week, checking the dozen remaining victims of the Pulse nightclub shooting and bracing for more fallout, for more talk in the media about Muslims extremists.

Ibrahim’s father was a Muslim immigrant, just like the father of shooter Omar Mateen. Ibrahim isn’t Muslim, but people assume he is. Some strangers also might guess he speaks with an accent. And he does — the soft lilt of small town Tennessee.

“I have to prove to people that I am trying to do good and I do want to represent, even though I am only half-Egyptian,” he said.

Now people who see Ibrahim around town stop to thank, hug and take photos with him.

But he still worries about how people see his sons.

“Seattle police and the FBI are searching for the perpetrator who assaulted a transgender activist after a benefit concert for victims of the mass shooting in Orlando, Florida.

The attacker allegedly said “Happy Pride” before uttering offensive language as he punched and strangled the victim, who lost consciousness, on Wednesday night in the Capitol Hill neighborhood.

I hope the FBI will be able to "crack" this case.

FBI Says There’s No Evidence Orlando Gunman Omar Mateen Had Messaged Men or Had Secret Gay Affairs

http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/2016/06/fbi-no-evidence-that-mateen-had-gay-affairs.html

Federal investigators say they have searched all of Mateen's electronic devices, including his laptop and cell phone, and found no evidence that Mateen downloaded gay-dating apps and or tried to solicit men.

Investigators also scoured the phones of those who've said Mateen messaged them on apps like Grindr and Jack'd, but discovered no proof.

.................................................

Over the past two years, ISIS has targeted gay men for death in keeping with its radical interpretation of Islam, throwing dozens of them from tall buildings in Iraq and Syria.

So, are those people who claim to have had contact with the Islamic terrorist Omar Mateen on Grind'r & Jack'd lying? Mistaken identity? Is the attraction of 15 minutes of fame that strong?

Media, city of Orlando go to court over 911 calls from Pulse nightclub massacre

“ORLANDO, Fla. - The city of Orlando wants the courts to help decide how to handle the unreleased portions of 911 recordings involving the Pulse nightclub shooting on June 12.

*

The city of Orlando filed a lawsuit Thursday in the Ninth Judicial Circuit that asked the court to determine what portions of the unreleased calls can remain exempt under the state public records law.

The Associated Press is listed as the defendant in two civil cases. Another civil case lists ABC.

The city's action comes as multiple media outlets have also gone to court, arguing the records should be released to help determine "how first responders and police reacted during the most critical phases of this incredible tragedy."

Civil case 2016-CA-005536-O includes ABC and the Associated Press as the defendants. The other civil case, 2016-CA-005528-O, lists only the Associated Press.

According to Karen Levy, chief deputy of court administration for the Ninth Judicial Circuit, case 2016-CA-005536-O has been transferred into Circuit Civil Division 40 before Circuit Judge Margaret H. Schreiber.

Levy said two hearings have been scheduled regarding the 911 recordings from Pulse nightclub. One hearing is scheduled for June 28 at 3 p.m. for 30 minutes in courtroom 19-D on preliminary issues. The second hearing is scheduled for June 30 at 1:30 p.m. for 2 hours in courtroom 19-D for a full hearing.”

Was the Orlando gunman gay? Answer continues to elude FBI.

http://mobile.nytimes.com/2016/06/2...ay-the-answer-continues-to-elude-the-fbi.html

The question of sexual orientation is a part of a broader effort by the F.B.I. to establish Mr. Mateen’s criminal profile. Beyond being a critical piece of information that could help the agency reconstruct the deadliest mass shooting in modern American history, it could aid in creating a broader analysis of criminal and terrorist behavior.

“People often act out of more than one motivation,” Attorney General Loretta Lynch told reporters during a visit here on Tuesday. “This was clearly an act of terror and an act of hate."

Does he have to use a specific app and visit certain websites, or does there have to be someone claiming to have had sex with him to prove he's gay?

I wonder about that.

I think it is fatally naive to minimize the fact that Mateen was tied to radical Muslim extremists and swore allegiance to ISIS. You can chat about his possible mental illness, but I happen to think that anyone who wants to enslave women, rape children and execute homosexuals is mentally ill, so that excuse will not fly for me. Everyone in ISIS is mentally ill, that doesn't mitigate the real and present danger they pose to everyone who doesn't think as they do.
BBM. Who is alleging that because Mateen or any other terrorist was mentally unstable that their mass killings really weren't that bad? I've seen no one ever say that we should feel sorry for a terrorist, excuse a terrorist's actions, or say that it's okay that they've killed tons of people because they are mentally ill. However, I have seen tons of people discussing mass shooters' mental illnesses in order to identify others who may be at risk for becoming killers, whether or not they kill dozens of people because they believe in a radical form of Islam, they hate the government, they can't get a date, or whatever other ridiculous reason they've claimed they've done it.

Does he have to use a specific app and visit certain websites, or does there have to be someone claiming to have had sex with him to prove he's gay?

I wonder about that.
Look at it this way -- does he have to have had sex with other men or cruise gay apps all the time to have been bisexual or gay? Ask any gay person. Many will say they knew as a seven year-old they were gay. You don't have to act on being gay to be gay. I've thought since the shooting occurred that Mateen had long been trying to suppress gay feelings that the radical interpretation of Islam he subscribed to strictly forbade.

I also think it's interesting how no reputable news sources are confirming with their own research these stories of Mateen on all these gay apps and with all these gay lovers he supposedly had, they are just repeating sensational stories from other media for clicks.

There are people who believe everything they read. Think about your relative that shares constant "Huggies will give your baby cancer" posts on Facebook. There are also old grumpy skeptics like me who believe nothing they read, and insist on five legit sources that claim the same exact thing before they will repeat anything because they've seen from experience how rumors with no merit can turn into facts. I would think the most reasonable ones would be somewhere in between those two extremes, lol.

Univision interview, seriously. LOL

Univision on Tuesday published quite an exclusive on Orlando gunman Omar Mateen. “Orlando massacre was ‘revenge,’ not terrorism, says man who claims he was gunman’s lover,” reads the headline of the story, in which Univision’s Maria Elena Salinas interviews a man who labeled Mateen “100 percent” gay.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/blog...mar-mateens-secret-gay-life-comes-under-fire/

In seeking to verify the reports, federal agents have culled Mateen’s electronic devices, including a laptop computer and cellphone, as well as electronic communications of those who made the claims, law enforcement officials said.

So far, they have found no photographs, no text messages, no smartphone apps, no gay 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 and no cell-tower location data to suggest that Mateen — who was twice married to women and had a young son — conducted a secret gay life, the officials said.

IDK elley what do you think? Well it appears that the guy was straight, as in heterosexual. He liked women. jmo idk.

bbm, and they had nothing on their devices.

Reports: Authorities feared terrorism, explosives at Pulse
Associated Press
By Jennifer Kay | AP June 25 at 6:07 PM

https://www.washingtonpost.com/nati...94ec86-3b17-11e6-af02-1df55f0c77ff_story.html

“MIAMI — Law enforcement officials immediately suspected terrorism and adjusted their staging areas due to fears about an explosive device as they responded to reports of shots fired at a gay nightclub in Orlando, according to sheriff’s office incident reports released Saturday.”

*

“Sgt. David Legvold wrote that as he assessed all the sheriff’s office personnel and resources at the early morning scene, he was told by a superior that “this incident had been declared a National Special Security Event and should not be discussed outside the law enforcement community.”

”The U.S. Department of Homeland Security makes that designation for events deemed to be potential targets for terrorism, mass protests or other criminal activity. Pope Francis’ visit to Philadelphia last year and this year’s Republican and Democratic national conventions have received this designation.

Legvold wrote that the commander of the sheriff’s office Critical Incident Management Team informed him about the special security designation, but it wasn’t clear where that information came from. A report by the lieutenant that Legvold identified as the team’s commander was not released.

In a 911 call from the club where 49 people were killed and over 50 were injured, the gunman, Omar Mateen, pledged solidarity with the Islamic State group. Federal law enforcement officials have said there’s no evidence Mateen was directed by any foreign terror groups.

Officials also have said FBI investigators haven’t found convincing evidence supporting reports that Mateen was gay or seeking gay relationships.”

Well, when I compare this Orlando shooting to the San Bernardino shooting, it seems to me that the FBI agents handling that case were much more upfront about the whole thing. As I recall, the head FBI guy held frequent meetings with the press and the public and was much more forthcoming with information.

Even as they held back some information along the way, they never seemed to not know what they were doing. I cannot say the same for these Florida folks. After reading this article, I am beginning to get the impression that they are covering something up. But, what? and why?

Orlando gunman may have scoped out South Florida shopping mall

“WEST PALM BEACH, FLA. (WSVN) - The shooter who killed 49 people at an Orlando nightclub early in June may have visited a shopping mall in West Palm Beach, days before the attack.

Employees of City Place in West Palm Beach said FBI agents questioned them recently, and sources tell 7News that Omar Mateen visited the mall at least five times in the months leading up to his attack, on June 12.

Residents in the area were concerned, Friday, as they learned that the shooter may have considered the mall as a target.

“Yes, it’s a concern, because there are people around here,” said Felix Lopez. “A lot of businesses where people gather.”

Sources said the FBI believes Mateen may have been at the mall on Feb. 25, March 26, May 18, June 2 and June 6. It was the next Sunday that Mateen committed the worst mass shooting in U.S. history at Pulse nightclub in Orlando.”

This wouldn't be a mall he might just go to once in awhile? Is it where he bought the jewelry? I'm not saying he wasn't scoping it out and considering it as a target, but to me five visits to a mall doesn't mean much - they must have more than simply his presence. It's good they've been able to track his movements so well.

Mateen lived about an hour and a half drive north of the mall. Sources said he may have been scared away by the security presence at the mall.
