I Gree
Jeepers. So this problem of debt was not new, although it may have been on a sharp uptick. Nearly 11 years of money problems -- that's a long time to accrue debt, and a very long time to fail to deal with its fundamentals.

Looks like a pattern of debt and "rescue," until the load became too great.

I agree. I didn’t realize he had other mortgage liens long ago and got out of them. I wonder if his wife knew about any of them. He had eviction notices on both Fl properties before the murders also. It also sounds like he was evicted from one of the 2 CT businesses a while ago. Seems like she would find out. If she knew though why not move out of $5000 rental and into condo and stop paying expensive tuition and send kids to free public school and get a job to help out. Stop tutors and sports and other lessons etc. Seems like she didn’t know.

She allegedly moved to Florida because of her health issues. They had been living there for two years. Her "health issues" have really never been substantiated, so we really don't know what her condition was. She was really into healthy living and cooking from scratch per obit, so perhaps she had a condition she was trying to rectify through diet and exercise.
How could moving to Florida that help with her supposed liver problem?

I can’t imagine Megan knowing nothing based on being evicted in the past... the extent of her knowledge we may never know.

But the fact he let his license expire is huge imo. Shows he planned to give up one way or the other. I don’t know about PT, but I can imagine you have CE’s to do.

I personally don’t think she had a liver problem. Moving to a warmer climate wouldn’t help that anyway.

she could have had something like rhematoid arthritis, which gets worse in colder climates.

I agree. The SIL didn’t even seem sure when she said it to the 911 dispatcher.

How did Megan think it was going to work living in Florida and her husband going back and forth every week to CT?

Did they move to Florida to be closer to family or did he encourage the move to get away from family?

Perpetuating that kind of coverup would mean he had total control of all the bills, she never opened any mail whatsoever (and creditors get very creative) never got a phone call or had an issue with a debit or credit card being declined. It takes a lot of work to keep all that secret.

I just realized that in the music teacher's text to Tony's sister wondering if she should show up for Monday 13th piano lesson, she states that she last got a text from Megan 12/30 confirming the 1/13 lesson. If that was from Tony pretending to be her, he expected everything to be finished by then (whatever that means in his brain.) If that was legit from Megan, she was alive on the 30th.

MimosaMornings, I can't believe they've been living like that, obviously on the edge, between two states. I don't believe either one of them has family in Florida. I can't figure why Florida was decided, other than the warmer climate and much less taxes than CT. But neither one of them had a PT license in FL (Tony apparently had one for FL years ago, but it expired). Maybe he wanted to come back.

I got the feeling Megan quit working simply because she had three kids and wanted to be a home-school parent and full-time mom. I'm sure it sounded good in the beginning when you think of the child care you're saving for the little one. And you can school at an accelerated pace and there's a great deal of flexibility. Just looking at her photos with her kids, she probably jumped at the chance to spend more time with her kids.

Anyone know if she home-schooled in CT, or this was new with the Florida move?

Were they evicted from another residence in the past? I just saw on the court records that numerous liens had been placed on their Condo from the HO Association, but thought those had been paid off.

If he had all of the mail sent to CT, how would she know? She may have agreed to an arrangement where he took care of all of the fiances and she thought was so kind, because per her aunt, he flew to Florida each weekend to do the cooking while Megan took a break from homeschooling and raising the children. JMO.

Agree, the sister-in-law seemed unclear as to the nature of the health problem. I've seen it said she'd had a bout with Lyme disease, which can lead to symptoms similar to RA. I actually have RA and the last place I'd want to live would be Florida and the next to last would be Texas. For me, heat and humidity make the symptoms much worse, from what I've experienced and I've seen other RA patients state the same.

The health problem is quite probably an invisible disease. A chronic pain problem or even depression. From the autopsy organ weights, I think MT was quite thin.

Nothing is noted about the liver itself which would make one think about a chronic liver condition.

I know this is off-topic directly to the Todt case, but just saw this on the news. Here we go again, another alleged family annihilator... When does this end????? Get a divorce ffs!

Husband, wife, 3 children dead in apparent murder-suicide at North Carolina home — ABC7 Chicago

eta: And the family dog again! These kids were little, little.... One has to wonder how many of these horrible, horrible incidents are copy-catish. Did this family have massive financial problems, too? Did this guy see the Todt story and think, “Hummmm, maybe I should do that too to avoid my problems, only I’ll make sure to finish the job on myself.”? I just can’t even....

Is there a thread?

Also, can you check your link? It's taking me to an apple app or something, not a story? Thanks. :)

I hope we learn why his phone was found at a Starbucks in Sarasota (a one hour 45 minute drive from Celebration) and where he had gone to when LE watched him enter his house, before he was arrested. It seems like he wasn't in the house the entire time, based on this.

His sister said she had not heard from him since Jan 6 and then received a text message from his phone stating it had been found in Sarasota.

Phone calls reveal frantic parallel searches by FBI agents and relatives for the Todt family prior to the discovery of their bodies

Guessing she home schooled because the schools aren’t great in that section of town?

I don’t know the school situation in that area, did she home school in CT too?

In another thread on this same case I read that in one affluent neighborhood during the recession there were 5 suicides in a very short time. One guy shot himself in the head in front of his whole family. A woman who lived in that affluent neighbor said that everything good they said about TT could have been true at the time and maybe the pressure just got to him and he couldn’t take it anymore. But why take out your whole family? Another interesting thing to come from that thread was the fact that when he would go home on the weekend he would cook for the family to give his wife a break. Cook for the family interesting, right. I wonder what he was cooking up that weekend. So him cooking n offering them food wouldn't have raised any red flags in their minds.

It's a real shame that someone (anyone really) might choose death over living with us middle class folks. :(
