FL - Melinda Hinson, 13, raped & murdered, Panama City, 8 July 2008

  • #21
Melinda came from Kentucky. Here's a link to her hometwon's local news. Lots of people posting comments on who is to blame. The mom for moving her kids to Florida, the father for being a deadbeat dad, on and on.

This little girl is dead. Murdered. May she rest in peace. Peace.

Meanwhile after Caylor was arrested for the home invasion the jail called the Valu hotel and told them Caylor wouldn't be coming back. They rented that room to a couple who was passing through for the night. Melinda's body was under the bed the entire time.

Oh my Gosh! How cold is that! The cops didn't even check his room? The maids didn't clean! This poor child.

I won't contribute without knowing more details. I think she should be taken home to Kentucky where her dad, grandmother and her friends are. From some posts on one of the local newspaper boards, it sounds like she had some good friends in school and I think it is important that those young girls be allowed some closure to the loss of their friend.

I know it is the family's decision, I just hope they take her home.

Good Lord, reading the comments posted on the newspaper board is like watching a really bad episode of Jerry Springer.

This is so sad.

People are coming out the woodwork to post what horrid parents these two were (at the article), where were those people before the child was killed? Why were the parents never reported? It seems to me that someone could have intervened on the childrens behalf before it came to this.

so sad.

When will they learn that they have to keep these men dead or at least locked up....When???:confused::confused::confused::confused:

Dead, preferably! Locking them up does no good. Some stupid judge lets them bond out, or they get a short sentence, or they get early parole.

Don't people check the RSO database before bringing people in their homes?

Don't people check the RSO database before bringing people in their homes?

That's the million dollar question, recoil. We discuss that alot and many, many times the answer is no.

However, this guy was not in Melinda's home. This little girl lived in a motel. The murderer moved in the motel as well. This little girl went to walk a dog and he pulled her in his room.

Bottom line is this poor child is dead because of that monster. It seems her murder went under the radar. It's just my opinion it's because of socio-economic background. Her life counted. She had her entire life ahead of her. Poor, poor child.

It breaks my heart that they did not take this baby home to the rest of her family and her friends. She is now buried in Florida, where she knew very few people. Her mother lives in a motel and will probably move soon, taking Melinda's brother with her and then there will be no one left in Florida to visit Melinda or be close by. Sometimes, just being close by is nice. So, did mom do this out of spite because she doesn't get along with Dad and his family? I could just scream!!!!!!!

Melinda had friends in her home town, regardless of her dad and his family. She had other 13/14 year old friends that are also reeling from this horrid murder and now they don't have the opportunity to say goodbye or to process and find closure for these horrible events.

My prayers to Melinda and her young friends. Any prayers to and for both sides of Melinda's family. May she rest in peace.

A man accused of murdering and raping a thirteen year old girl last year is getting ready to face trial.

Matthew Caylor was indicted for the murder of Melissa Hinson last July after her body was found at a motel on West Highway 98 in St. Andrew.

Jury selection started this morning from a pool of approximately 70 prospective candidates.

Opening arguments will start Tuesday and the trial is expected to last approximately five days.

<snip from above link>

Deputy Public Defender Walter Smith told jurors there was no question Caylor killed Hinson, but the issue was whether it was first-degree or second-degree murder. Smith argued Hinson had consensual sex with Caylor, who killed her suddenly out of anger.

How does this defense atty sleep at nite --I mean, really???????

Blaming a 13yo girl who went out to walk her dog then never seen again?!! :furious:

I think this statement alone will get a DP for this 🤬🤬🤬.
