GUILTY FL - Melissa Stoddard, 11, tortured to death, Sarasota, Dec 2012

  • #101
If she is to be believed and the father was sexually abusing Melissa, it could help explain the shift in Melissa's behavior toward her and siblings.

I'm not clear on something -- was this just supposed to be for an extended visit? Was Melissa supposed to be returned to her mother anytime soon? Was Melissa ever allowed to see or speak with her mother during this period?

I just wonder because (had she survived) what shape would she have been in when returning to her mother and how would that have been explained away?

And an earlier post mentions an autistic brother -- was he there too?

Bold part: She said the father was sexually abusing her (Misty), not the child.

True but it sounds as though the defense is trying to plant a seed -- asking the coroner if Melissa had any physical indications of sexual abuse (to which the prosecutor objected) and Misty's DNA on the board might have explained a different way if not trying to lay that foundation -- sounds like they are trying to present it in a way that gets the jurors thinking that the father did things to Melissa outside of her presence or knowledge... and they want the jurors to have certain ideas about what those things could be.

Melissa was home when Jody Smith, the social work, came to do a home visit, right? prosecutor asks Misty

Gabrielle Russon‏@GabrielleRusson·23 mins
Misty wouldn't let Smith in the house. "You didn’t want (Smith) to see that board, did you?" Prosecutor asks Misty. #stoddardtrial

I'm coming in late to this tragedy, so please excuse my ignorance. Has the father already been convicted? And if so, what are the charges? TIA

No trial yet~ charged with aggrivated child abuse resulting in death (as far as I can find)-- His trial later this year

Late to this case, but have spent the evening reading everything to catch up. Why is Misty charged with murder and father only charged with aggravated child abuse and the several additional charges? His charges are much less severe than actual murder.

The best I can figure out by reading the MSM articles ( posted above in this short thread) is that one of the siblings said Misty had used the duct tape. Apparently one of the MEs said that the death occured because of duct tape. A couple tweets missing posting today are these : Kim Kuizon FOX 13‏@kkuizon·5 hrs
Misty says she is confused asking state to re read question and her statement about Melissa being restrained #StoddardTrial #Sarasota

Misty is testifying that her son and detectives are incorrect with their testimonies #StoddardTrial #Sarasota

I hate Twitter trials but it is what we have. So this is all JMO.

That's exactly how I saw the maneuvering playing out also. And I am even more convinced after the Misty testimony tweet twittering.

I guess you will have to ask the reporter who tweeted. But it's a great question. I will ask tomorrow if you don't!

Hmm this is new to me. The teacher anonymously reported child abuse twice. Yikes! I wonder if this teacher still has a job as reporting is mandatory.

I would guess she/he is still employed. the teacher did fill the required mandatory mandated reporting. it requires that you call not that you give your name. the person who takes your info will give you a case number. ( and dont think that they dont have a phone number to id you.
