This says the man was discovered on January 12, 1982. It was an accidental drowning.

“The missing person was last seen in 1981 after arriving from Cuba during the mariel boat lift.”

Timing is a bit vague but Rogelio seems like a possibility.

ETA: Nevermind, I knew his name was familiar. However, I did submit this to NamUs and the profile is still up so I’m not sure what’s going on.

Nice find! This was confusing to me at first because the article is talking about 2 different Does (one a suicide and the other the subject of this thread). LOL I had to read it twice! :D

The same address makes me think it must be our guy. I’m not sure why they reported he was pulled from the canal “yesterday” in the Jan. 13th article but maybe that was a misprint or misinformation.

The person who wrote the article most likely got the dates wrong. The Medical Examiner case number starts with 1981, this means the body was definitely found in 1981. MOO JMO

Pending legal identification?

Remember that many Mariel refugees "changed" their names in order to leave Cuba. The Cuban writer Reinaldo Arenas is one example. He changed his last name to Arinas, so he could leave the island.

Rogelio RR entered the US but, did he "leave" Cuba?
