FL FL - Miami, UnkMale 20s-50s #UP1072, found w/ "Catdog" keychain and Dallas Cowboys ballcap, Feb'2000

I thought "everyone" likes to visit Florida in the winter? What makes this specific to 90s computer guys? Curious

I mainly meant that while it's more likely the decedent is a local person on the young side of the estimate, it's probably worth looking at people out of the area because there are possible people at the edges--older, from another area, etc.

Some comments please, and thank you.

1) Regarding the dental info.
- there is nothing in the fluidb on this
- it was added when Namus entry was entered
- the proper experts can determine if the loss was ante (with a healed, or healing socket, with trauma, etc) or post mortem
- it is not uncommon at all for tooth loss to occur post mortem. Even in the recently deceased and assuming opportune environment, teeth start loosening and can easily fall from the skull - animal activity or perhaps in the body recovery.
- people can lose teeth between their ante mortem dental records (particularly if very old) and post mortem recovery for a myriad of reasons, which is why and a forensic odontologist/expert needs to look at other identifying teeth characteristics

Having said the above, please do not exclude possible matches based on 4 missing teeth. It perhaps might raise the possibility if their records showed the missing teeth (or some of them), but from my perspective it should not exclude. We don't know. The experts in that field can make a better evaluation. I am also aware of a case where the dentist reported 4 missing teeth on a missing person which was not accurate. Because of that, and the original skeletal review classing the wrong sex on the individual, the young lady waited 20 years to be identified. Incredibly heartbreaking.

2) The Doe was found on Krome Ave (per fluidb entry) by a maintenance worker. Some info on Krome Ave (which is not listed in Namus):

a) According to the net,
Though the Krome Facility was demolished in 2015, the urban legends live on. Some say it was an insane asylum that housed an experimental CIA laboratory. The Krome Asylum was a popular place for photoshoots and bonfires, as well as teenagers looking for a Halloween thrill.

b) What is the history of Krome Avenue? (also 997)
Krome Avenue is named for William J. Krome. Krome was a railroad engineer for the Florida East Coast Railway and is known for leading an expedition to survey Cape Sable for a route for the Overseas Railroad to Key West. Krome ended up mapping much of Everglades for the first time.

There may have also been some been some railroads in/around this area historically, but I'm not able to determine.

3) Dallas Cowboys hat. While this person could have picked this hat up for comfort, etc., I'm leaning more towards he either supported them or was ok either way. That team is iconic (loved and hated) - so one would definitely be making a statement by wearing it.

SBM
Krome Asylum was demolished, but the detention center is still very much there and filled with illegal immigrants.

I still intend on shooting an email about this Doe to the relevant contacts suggested ITT, but I have been dealing with several distractions ATM.

I think it's fascinating they went as far as creating a clay bust of this Doe but he has recieved precious little attention since. BTW, anyone know what happens to busts? I imagine many are destroyed after a while but maybe not for some?

Where was this listed on FLUIDDB? I didn't see it.

MOO.

"Miami Haunts" article about the urban legends surrounding "Krome Asylum." (ARCHIVE)

Article about the demolition of Krome Asylum. I love exploring abandoned places (though I never get to do it) and for someone like myself I find the picture in this article strangely beautiful. (ARCHIVE)

There is honestly not much out there about it...

This morning I submitted "CatDog John Doe" for inclusion on the Doe Network as a concerned citizen.

Not sure when it happened, but I'm pleased Doe Network has reopened submissions from nonrelatives and non-law enforcement members. It has been closed since I started following this stuff heavily.

This morning I submitted Florentino Gonzalez as a possible match for CatDog John Doe through Doe Network. The two contacts I tried this with in the past did not work. I have not received a confirmation email yet but I don’t know how long that usually takes.

He was found on Krome avenue. It would be nice to know where on the 37 mile road he was found. The northern end is up at highway 27 or locally Okeechobee road. There are lots of truckers in that area. You have 27 and the Turnpike extension close by. Lots of repair shops for big trucks (18 wheelers etc.) The further south you go, you wind up in Miami-Dade's farming area known as the Redland and then Homestead. These are rural, agricultural areas. The point being that the location on Krome where he was found could be indicative of his life situation. He could have been a migrant worker in the fields of southern Miami Dade or a traveler who hitched a ride with a trucker or was one himself. It's unbelievable that he laid there undiscovered for a year or so. Who are you Mr. Catdog?

Great point. No matter where he was found, it's sort of no-man's land out there. I saw a comment early on by @PayrollNerd that said it would have been more rural 20 years ago but I don't think so. It was as rural when he was found as it is today.

Yes, that is mostly true with maybe the exception of Kendall Drive (SW 88th Street) which has expanded west all the way to Krome in terms of residential and commercial construction and of course population. There's even a major hospital out that way now. This is all within the last 15-20 years.

"four healed fractures to right side of body (ribs, clavicle, humerus), missing upper four front teeth."

Could he have been a boxer? Are there any missing boxers out there?

This morning I submitted Florentino Gonzalez as a possible match for CatDog John Doe through Doe Network.
I got an email back stating a comparison between CatDog John Doe and Florentino Gonzalez has never been done. The comparison is being forwarded to the panel and I will get an email if it is confirmed to be a positive match.

At the very least it will give more attention to these two. CatDog John Doe still doesn't have any contacts listed for his NamUs, which is odd. We know he's technically being handled by the state medical examiners but maybe the Miami-Dade agencies will take him up.

If they still have his remains or at least took DNA samples, maybe Othram would be interested.
