DAYTONA BEACH — A scorned and suicidal woman who was last reported aboard a boat in the Halifax Harbor Marina has been identified as the same Deltona woman who went missing in the Tiger Bay Forest a year ago, police said.

Nikki Shriver, 31, was no longer on the boat once Daytona Beach police boarded it shortly before noon Wednesday, hours after hearing what sounded like gunshots coming from the vessel, police said.

But police did find a pair of guns aboard the vessel which they had initially believed to be missing. Authorities are still looking for Shriver.

The interior of the cabin was destroyed by a fire that was set and the vessel is considered a “total loss,” police said.

Daytona Beach police spokesman Messod Bendayan said Shriver is a “person of interest,” and not a suspect in the fire.

In June 2018, Shriver was taken into custody under Florida’s Baker Act for a mental health evaluation after she went missing in the forest four days earlier.

The latest incident involving Shriver began when Daytona Beach police were called to evict her from the boat about 2:15 a.m. Wednesday.

Police arrived after Betty Jo Garcia, 50, who owns the boat with her husband, called 9-1-1 to report that Shriver was on her boat and she had been harassing her and her family.

Garcia learned from Shriver that she had been having an affair with her husband, John Garcia, 51, according to the 9-1-1 call.

“My husband has been having an affair with this stripper for a year-and-a-half and she’s been living on my boat for two days now,” Betty Jo Garcia told the 9-1-1 operator.

After they arrived at the scene, officers heard gunshots coming from the boat, police said.

There's generally consequences to our actions. I bet there is one SORRY boyfriend. I hope she is found safe again. She sounds like she needs help.

...
According to the Daytona Beach Police Department, the relationship was happening without his wife's knowledge. The man reportedly decided to end the relationship and told his wife about it before they both went to the marina to have the woman removed from the boat.

Upon arrival at the scene, authorities found the boat adrift about 15 to 20 feet from the dock and reported hearing several gunshots. The man confirmed there were firearms on board, including an AK-47 with 100 rounds and a shotgun.

Officers had to call in the Coast Guard and Florida Fish and Wildlife to assist with boats and get to the adrift boat.

After several hours they were able to get the boat back to dock. Inside, investigators said the boat was burnt to a total loss as were magazines for the guns, but all of the guns were found inside and accounted for.

The mistress however, was not found.

Police said they are now looking for 31 year-old Nikki Shriver as a person of interest. Shriver is not currently charged with anything, and officers said her phone was found inside the boat.

The gunshots may have simply been stored ammo going off in a fire. She may have just let the boat loose and took off. I think if she'd ended up in the water, either dead or alive, they would have spotted her as quickly as they got there.

The scorned girlfriend of a married man allegedly set fire to his boat at a marina in Daytona Beach, according to a report from WESH.

The husband was allowing Nikki Shriver to live aboard the boat at Halifax Harbor until he and his wife tried to get her to leave, according to the report. Police found three weapons and ammunition on the damaged boat, but they were unsure whether any shots were fired, WESH reported.

Police are looking for Shriver.

Sounds more like the GF could have been murdered on the boat and the boat was burnt to hide the evidence.

By whom? Another uninvolved party who happened to have their own reasons for wanting her to disappear on the very same day the couple were going to evict her for the affair? Or are you thinking one or both parties of the couple are not giving full & truthful accounts?
If the man's account wasn't honest or if he was in some way involved in the boat fire & the subsequent disappearance of the mistress, that would have removed any need to inform his wife of the affair, so then why did he still tell her?

I'd imagine that couple won't be staying together to work it out.

I really didn't expect that!

From the link:
Shriver’s body was found yesterday (June 10) lying on a bench underneath a large cushion while the vessel was being inspected by the State Fire Marshal’s Office for the arson portion of the investigation.

DBPD said that first responders did not find Shriver’s body during the initial investigation, in part because it wasn’t easily visible due to fire damage in the area where the body was found.

Investigators found Shriver’s body when they moved the cushion during the arson investigation. The body was visible once the cushion was removed.

The initial autopsy report showed that soot was found in Shriver’s lungs. At this point in the investigation, there are no signs of foul play.

So she texted her lover's wife to taunt her, set the boat on fire and then hid under the cushion rather than jumping ship? :confused:o_O:(

Since there was soot found in her lungs, the fire was not started after she died... I wonder what the trajectory of the bullet wounds will show..

From the link:
A four-plus-minute recording posted to Facebook depicts a woman holding a shotgun in a small, dimly lit space in front of a fiery backdrop. She approaches the flames and disappears from view. Later, amid loud pops — potentially the sound of ammunition exploding — a person can be heard screaming in distress for about 15 seconds as the blaze dies out and the room fills with smoke.

Daytona Beach police Chief Craig Capri said he is aware of the Facebook Live video and that his department has a copy of it, but he is unsure exactly when his investigators learned of the recording’s existence.

“I think it was after the fact,” Capri said.

An autopsy report revealed “no trauma” to Shriver’s body and the cause of death was smoke inhalation, he said previously. A Daytona Beach police news release stated that soot was found in her lungs.

It remains unclear why Shriver’s body was not discovered in an initial search of the sailboat on June 5.
