DAYTONA BEACH — A scorned and suicidal woman who was last reported aboard a boat in the Halifax Harbor Marina has been identified as the same Deltona woman who went missing in the Tiger Bay Forest a year ago, police said.
Nikki Shriver, 31, was no longer on the boat once Daytona Beach police boarded it shortly before noon Wednesday, hours after hearing what sounded like gunshots coming from the vessel, police said.
But police did find a pair of guns aboard the vessel which they had initially believed to be missing. Authorities are still looking for Shriver.
The interior of the cabin was destroyed by a fire that was set and the vessel is considered a “total loss,” police said.
Daytona Beach police spokesman Messod Bendayan said Shriver is a “person of interest,” and not a suspect in the fire.
In June 2018, Shriver was taken into custody under Florida’s Baker Act for a mental health evaluation after she went missing in the forest four days earlier.
The latest incident involving Shriver began when Daytona Beach police were called to evict her from the boat about 2:15 a.m. Wednesday.
Police arrived after Betty Jo Garcia, 50, who owns the boat with her husband, called 9-1-1 to report that Shriver was on her boat and she had been harassing her and her family.
Garcia learned from Shriver that she had been having an affair with her husband, John Garcia, 51, according to the 9-1-1 call.
“My husband has been having an affair with this stripper for a year-and-a-half and she’s been living on my boat for two days now,” Betty Jo Garcia told the 9-1-1 operator.
After they arrived at the scene, officers heard gunshots coming from the boat, police said.
