3/1/24 Update: Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Andrea Ricker Wolfson decided Jorge Barahona — whom detectives accused of killing his 10-year-old adoptive daughter Nubia — is incompetent to stand trial. He announced the ruling on Friday after Lina Haji, a psychologist, conducted her evaluation on Feb. 28, court records show. Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle released a statement regretting that the case against Jorge Barahona was “delayed” yet again. “The psychologists’ opinions that he cannot assist his new attorney in mounting his own legal defense is frustrating to all,” Fernandez Rundle said in a statement. “Hopefully, he will be found to be competent to stand trial soon, and this case will finally move forward providing justice for Nubia & her twin brother Victor.”

10/31/24 Update: Barahona accused of killing his adopted 10-year-old daughter in 2011 has been found competent to stand trial. In March, Barahona was found incompetent but that decision by Miami-Dade Circuit Court Judge Andrea Wolfson was reversed Thursday after psychological exams. The court has 90 days to work out a trial date for Barahona.

Plead guilty to 1st degree murder & aggravated child abuse on 3/4/20. Plea deal gives her a life prison sentence in exchange for testimony against her husband. Sentencing will be after she testifies against her husband as agreed.
Trial was set to begin vacated. 2/21/20: Defendant found competent to stand trial.

This case...should be reviewed by some news program like "20/20". It is so impossibly crazy. Every single thing here. Starting with why this family was allowed to adopt 2 siblings who already were identified as having special needs. And why they were further allowed to "homeschool" them, after so many teachers inquired about their lack of care. And why CPS didn't follow up...

On and on...and why a man was found with a dead child, a dying child, and has been allowed to manipulate the court system for over a decade to avoid trial and subsequent death penalty.

How much money has the State of Florida spent on this case?!

It completely frustrates me to no end that this is still dragging on. I have watched since the nightmare first started and the fact that that monster is still playing games just irks me to death. But I'm patient, I'll wait. One way or another, he'll burn for his crimes.
