FL - Orlando Cops Say They're Outmanned, Outgunned Downtown

ITA. MS-13 is even in the rural areas folks. I mean even po'dunk East Tennessee has them here. It's a scary world and most people are keeping their eyes closed.

I have family & friends in LE and worry about them all the time.
The feds now have many more teams of gang task forces. They go into hot gang areas, such as San Bernadino, CA and stay for months while they break up the gangs in those areas. Seems the last I heard they had 80 teams, which was up from the only 25, or so, teams that they had previously. I expect that the deportation of illegals, especially gang members, will eventually have an effect on gangs.

Kurdish gangs emerge in Nashville

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A proud enclave of Kurds has lived in this city for decades, starting businesses and soccer leagues, holding down good jobs and blending into the immigrant neighborhoods south of town.

But now the Kurdish immigrant community has been shaken to see its young people joining a street gang that blends old-world customs and new-world thuggery. Police blame the gang for a string of rapes, assaults and home invasions.

The gang calls itself Kurdish Pride and is made up of 20 to 30 teenagers and young adults. "We don't have the phenomenon anywhere else. This is a unique situation in Nashville," said Pary Karadaghi, president and chief executive of Kurdish Human Rights Watch, based in Fairfax, Va. The gang members borrow from California gangster culture by adopting rap slang, scrawling "KP" graffiti on street signs, wearing gang colors and flashing hand signs in photos posted online.

They also put Kurdish flags on their cars, and use yellow — from the Kurdish Democratic Party banner — as their gang color. On their Web sites, they talk about Kurdish music and culture. Unlike other gang members, most Kurdish Pride followers grew up in stable, working-class, two-parent homes, and many of their parents own successful businesses or work at universities, Nashville Detective Mark Anderson said.

Oakland pummeled by a surge in shootings

Five people, including a reported replacement driver in the recent East Bay garbage lockout, were shot to death in Oakland in a bloody 28-hour period ending early Saturday. The deaths occurred in four apparently unrelated incidents. All the killings follow the highly publicized fatal shooting of Oakland Post Editor Chauncey Bailey on Thursday.

The spate of homicides came just after Oakland saw a drop in the number of killings during the first six months of this year. Through the end of June, Oakland's homicide total was down 15 percent, with 56 homicides in 2007 versus 66 in 2006. However, the city's homicide rate in 2006 was unusually high, 57 percent above the previous year and among the highest in the nation.

Byron K. Mitchell, 29, a Chicago man who was a replacement worker in last month's Waste Management garbage drivers lockout, was killed sometime before 12:35 a.m. Saturday in an apparent robbery attempt in his hotel room near the Oakland airport, according to police quoted in the Oakland Tribune. Police said Mitchell apparently answered a knock on the door of his room at the La Quinta Inn, 8465 Enterprise Way, and was shot in a struggle by someone who tried to rob him, the paper said. A motel clerk refused to comment on the shooting. Police declined to provide details, and the coroner's office would not confirm Mitchell's identity.

Two men were killed and one injured about 1:45 a.m. Friday by gunshots outside a downtown nightclub, At 17, in the 500 block of 17th Street, according to police. The victims were taken to Highland Hospital, where two were pronounced dead. Oakland police and the Alameda County coroner would not release the names of the victims. At about 11:06 p.m. Friday, police learned that a woman was shot in the 1100 block of Eighth Street. She was taken to Highland Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, police said. No other information was released. Police and the coroner refused to release her name. At about 4:40 a.m. Saturday, a man was found shot to death in the 1300 block of 49th Street, according to police. No other details were provided. Police and the coroner refused to identify the victim.

Illegal Alien Gang Violence in America Increasing

by Jim Kouri - Gang-related violence continues to garner headlines in the news media -- and rightly so -- especially the emerging, more organized gangs of criminal illegal aliens who prey on US citizens and illegal immigrants alike.

According to the National Crime Victimization Survey, released by the US Department of Justice last June, gang members committed about 373,000 of the 6.6 million violent victimizations. Nonfatal violent acts measured include rape/sexual assault, robbery, aggravated assault, and simple assault. Victims believed that perpetrators were not gang members in 55% of all nonfatal violent crimes between 1998 and 2003, and victims were unsure of gang affiliation in 37%.

Males experienced violence attributed to gang members at higher rates than those of females. Hispanic victims of violence identified the offenders as gang members at a higher rate than non-Hispanic victims, and blacks at a higher rate than whites, for the period between 1993 and 2003. Victims believed the offenders were gang members in about 12% of all aggravated assaults that occurred between 1993 and 2003. Offenders were identified as gang members in about 4% of rapes, 10% of robberies, and 6% of simple assaults.

Between 1993 and 2003 younger victims of violence were more likely than older victims to believe the perpetrator was a gang member. Offenders were perceived to be gang members in 12% of violent crimes against those age 12 -19. The offender was identified as a gang member in about 6% of violent crimes against persons age 20-49 and in about 4% of violent crimes against those age 50 or older. Urban victims were more likely than suburban or rural victims to identify offenders as gang members. Police were as likely to be notified when the victims believed the offender not to be a gang member (45% of violence reported to the police) as when they believed the offender belonged to a gang (47% reported).

Richmond is next door to Oakland. They are trying to keep up.

12 People Shot, Wounded In 24 Hours In Richmond

(CBS 5 / AP / BCN) RICHMOND An eruption of violence in Richmond left 12 men injured, three critically, in a spate of shootings over a span of less than 24 hours.

"It just was one of those time periods,'' Richmond police Lt. Michael Booker said Saturday about the rash of shootings.

The five apparently unrelated attacks began Friday around 8:30 a.m. when a 45-year-old man was shot in the stomach by an unknown assailant as he worked on his car in the 100 block of Espee Avenue, which is located in Richmond's Central District, police said. Officers located the man when they were called to the Kaiser Hospital emergency room where the victim was being treated for the gunshot wound to the abdomen. He was later taken to John Muir Medical Center, where he was listed in serious but stable condition.

Around 4:30 p.m. Friday, an assailant in a newer-model sport utility vehicle opened fire on another man, who was found laying on his back suffering from gunshot wounds to his left arm and back in front of 3911 Clinton Ave. in Richmond's Northern District. The victim was airlifted to John Muir Medical Center in critical condition, but Booker said he was expected to survive.
