FL - Pediatrician Neha Gupta, 36, accused of killing 4-year old daughter and staging death to look like accidental drowning - Miami-Dade, June 2025

  • #21
Neha Gupta, a former Oklahoma pediatrician charged with the murder of her 4-year-old daughter in Florida, is expected to appear in court Thursday.

Gupta, who worked at OU Health, told investigators her daughter fell into a pool and drowned while she was asleep at a short-term rental property in Florida. However, the medical examiner reported finding no water in the child's lungs.

Gupta was arrested in Oklahoma City last month and extradited to Miami-Dade County in Florida.

She is expected to be arraigned in a Florida courtroom on Thursday.

The doctor was denied bond and remains in custody in Florida

She did not appear in court on Thursday but her attorney, Michael Mirer, entered a written plea of not guilty and continued to maintain her innocence.

“Our position from day one has been that Dr. Gupta did not intentionally harm her child that her child tragically got out of the locked door and fell into the pool accidentally. And this confirms (sic) by the state’s filing. The charges are not intentional by Doctor Gupta,” Mirer said.

Body camera footage obtained by Local 10 News last month shows officers breaching her front door and ordering her to surrender.

“Neha Gupta, come to the front door. Do it now,” one officer is heard shouting.

On June 27, first responders were called to a short-term rental property in El Portal, Florida, where Gupta's 4-year-old daughter was found unresponsive by a pool. Gupta had traveled from Oklahoma City to Florida with her daughter just days before.

The child was identified as Aria Talathi.

Gupta told investigators that her daughter drowned in the rental property's pool while she was sleeping. An autopsy report found no water in the child's lungs, and the inside of the child's mouth had injuries consistent with smothering.

She was accused of killing her daughter and staging an accidental drowning.

I hope more info will come out soon, it sure sounds like a mistake may have been made with the autopsy?
She is a doctor herself, it makes sense that if she wants to murder her daughter that she would be more meticulous about not leaving evidence. There are meany other ways.

Very different if this was an accident, she forgot to lock the door??

Has anyone seen anything lately on this? I'm super curious to know if the authorities have found out what @AngTxGal found out about the mom's scuba diving hobby! That is just outrageous. imo

Holy moly. And a pediatrician working at a children's hospital who didn't know that an autopsy will reveal the absence of water in the lungs of someone who was dead when they went in the water in a staged drowning. Sickening.

I know there is something called dry drowning, but a forensic pathologist would be able to tell the difference, and the presence of other injuries suggesting smothering speak of anger and violence.
I think she killer her and panicked and knew she would be caught.
How could she not? Maybe she is one of those golden people who never gets caught or has consequences and so she now is completely shocked?

What a waste of two lives, and a heartbreaking future for a little girl’s father.
