Police: No foul play regarding human bones found under Pensacola building

Pensacola Police say investigation shows that there is no evidence of foul play in regards to the human bones found under a historic Pensacola building in June.

"Investigators with the Pensacola Police Department, the Medical Examiner’s Office, and officials from the University of West Florida’s Anthropology Department have concluded that no evidence of a crime was present in relation to the remains," Pensacola Police said in a press release on Friday.

Pensacola Police added that the "investigation into the remains is now closed."

The building was built back in 1934 and used as a community building before recently being named a historical site.

They are already closing the investigation?
Much more information is needed. How old do they estimate them to be?

Ok, that is just odd. No word on male, female, skeletal remains from a flooded grave, age of remains, who this person was or could be?????

I agree.....so because it's not a crime it's not important anymore who the remains belong to?

Someone should do an in-depth sleuthing of this case ;)

Maybe the remains will be entered in Namus later. As of today, they are not there.

I don't know, that article doesn't specify whether they identified the remains or not - the case being closed could mean they did identify them, right?

Maybe they determined it was an old family gravesite and the family prefers to stay anonymous. Or maybe they identified them as a homeless person who died accidentally like @carbuff speculated and the police/family prefer not to have that sad story made public.

In any case, if the investigation is closed it probably won't be entered into NamUs.

It's been almost a year since Boy Scouts discovered human bones under a community building in a Florida neighborhood.

Many have speculated for months that the neighborhood of East Hill in Pensacola, Florida was once the site of an African American cemetery.
[...]
Monday, a spokesperson with the Florida Department of State sent an email to WEAR, saying documentation shows it is likely the remains discovered were originally laid to rest in a historic African American graveyard.
