The Polk County Sheriff’s Office announced that a family with a “long history of illegal narcotics sales in Winter Haven” was at the center of the investigation. PCSO said nine adults and three juveniles were arrested.

Following an investigation, PCSO seized Nearly $140,000 of illegal drugs from three homes in the Inwood community of Winter Haven last week, including 1,365.97 grams of methamphetamine, 980.13 grams of cocaine, 900.88 grams of MDMA (Ecstasy), 224.06 grams of fentanyl, 157.78 grams of marijuana, 8.88 grams of Oxycodone, 202 prescription pills, one pill-press, and one firearm.

Deputies called it a family-run drug trafficking operation.

“Members of the Rogers family are very well known to law enforcement and have been arrested many times over the years. They have been a cancer in the Inwood community for a long time, exposing families there to unwanted drug activity, gangs, violence, and more. We want these families to know that we’re doing everything in our power to put a stop to it,” Sheriff Judd said in a statement.

According to PCSO, several members of the Rogers family have resided in multiple homes in the Inwood neighborhood over the years and “have been trafficking drugs and committing other times in the area since the 1980s.”

Investigators say they have arrested three generations of the Rogers family, who have been in Polk County for 30 years and have a long history of selling illegal narcotics.

Nine adults and three juveniles were among the arrests made when authorities executed search warrants at three homes in the Inwood community of Winter Haven last week, according to PCSO.

Deputies said a variety of illegal drugs were seized during the bust, including 1,365.97 grams of methamphetamine, 980.13 grams of cocaine, 900.8 grams of ecstasy and 224.06 grams of fentanyl.

Investigators said that the drugs seized were worth nearly $140,000.

Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said several members from the Roger family have lived in multiple homes on 37th Street NW in the Inwood neighborhood and have been trafficking drugs and committing other crimes in the area since the 80s.

From grandpa to grandson deputies say the Rogers' were street level dealers pushing all kinds of dangerous drugs. The sheriff says they even had a pill press and would stamp their own dope.

Among the arrests was 28-year-old Dominque Rogers, who deputies suspect had a hand in selling the drugs that caused a 19-year-old to overdose and die back in May. Just two weeks ago, he was charged with two counts of second-degree murder in Manatee County.

"These folks have created death and destruction for many families for a very long time," the sheriff said.

"The only way to keep these people from selling drugs is to lock them up," Judd said during a press conference on Monday.

He added that drugs are not low-level, non-violent crimes.

"You show me drugs, and I’ll show you dead people, every single time," Judd offered.

Deputies conducted three search warrants on June 22, two in the area of 37th Avenue and one on Avenue M in the Inwood area of Winter Haven. They led to the seizure of $139,149 worth of drugs and 12 arrests.
Deputies say they seized:

  • 980.13 grams of cocaine
  • 900.88 grams of MDMA

  • 157.78 grams of marijuana
  • 8.88 grams of Oxycodone
  • 202 prescription pills

The 12 arrests included several members of the Rogers family, who have been "trafficking drugs and committing other crimes" in the same neighborhood since the 1980s, the sheriff's office said.

“These folks aren't new to us. The Rogers family has been around for decades," Judd said.

Sadly, this isn’t surprising. How many other dealers have they ensnared into their web to push that out to the streets.

I look forward to hearing about more arrests of their associates. Their poor kids will likely end up in foster care.

And it’s the reason that pain management is being withheld from patients who actually need it.

I had a thyroidectomy a few weeks ago and they sent me home the same day, telling me to just alternate ibuprofen and acetaminophen. It was my first “real” surgery and so I trusted them and went home. Then once the surgery meds completely wore off, it was excruciating and I was up all night, could barely move, not even to lie down. My oncologist’s office finally wrote me a prescription for a few low dose painkillers, but I felt like some sort of drug-seeking criminal for even asking.

There has to be a better way, this is insanity.

(I’m sure someone reading this has had a thyroidectomy and didn’t have much pain, which is apparently a thing that happens. I had bruises up to my chin and all down my chest, and looked and felt like I had been hit in the throat with a machete. Sorry for the vivid description, just trying to get the pain level across. My throat is still swollen up over the incision and I had to go to the ER last week because of hematoma.)

Sorry for the novella, this is just fresh for me and I absolutely hated that I had to beg for two days’ worth of pain support.
