I swear I can see part of the girls hand under her rear too! I looked again and sometimes it looks like her thumb and a couple fingers and other times it looks like it can be one of the flowers on the comforter!

You are correct it is her hand there is not way her wrists are tied together her left shoulder would be distorted if it was attached so far to the right wrist.

I do not see a squirt gun or the muzzle of one, its denim fabric under the cup. I see is a sleeve of plastic cups to the right of the crushed cup. This picture so staged it's a joke to think it is anything else. It's a family on vacation. The only reason the photo was found on the ground: all the garbage they accumulated in the back while traveling when they got out to go into the store the photo was stuck to one of them or just fell out with their feet. Or as Sony 12 mentioned, they were all in on it, they found a a girl that looked like Tara and her brother to take a photo for the sensationalism to use in their books, TV shows and podcasts to make money.

My guess is they found the tape in the back of the van and it was their big brother's idea.

I am trying to post the link where I found this article from July 2017 however it keeps starring out the news source, PM me if you want to fill in the stars and view it yourself.

http://www.*************.com/n3/2263867-the-tara-calico-mystery-still-baffles-police-decades-later/

 • Valencia County, New Mexico, Sheriff Renee Rivera said 20 years later, in 2008, that he knew exactly what happened. “The individuals who did the harm to Tara, knew who she was. They knew who she was, and they’re all local individuals. And I believe that the parents [of the attackers] were some of the people that helped the individuals with hiding the truth or hiding the body or trying to escape prosecution,” said Rivera. He said that two local men were involved in her disappearance, but several friends and family members covered up the crime. “You know it’s very frustrating, being that there’s a lot of people that know what happened,” he said. “They know the whereabouts of the body or the remains… I believe the body is nearby.” He claimed that the teens drove up in a truck behind Calico while she was riding her bike and an accident unfolded, but rather than contact police, they got rid of the body.

I remember reading on here somewhere about a 2nd picture floating around with the girl and an older man on a train! I never saw the picture I just remember reading about it! I think because this is all tied up the Calico case people might get confused with what pics are what

And again...there is NO RESEMBLANCE AT ALL between this 13-14 year old girl and Tara calico!! It's just so funny sometimes to read some of the stories/assumptions that people create around this picture! The first one being that it's Tara calico and then some other random boy being kidnapped with Tara calico! First thing I thought when I saw it was they were siblings because they look alot alike!

Yeah and if we can become fairly certain that the girls hands were not tied together and she was actually just sitting on her hands (which the position of her shoulders and elbows tend to indicate as well) that pretty much ruins any chance of the pic not being staged.

If that book was purposely placed there I think the kids may have just been acting out a scene from the book. Never read the book myself but I have heard there are child abduction and captivity themes in it.

Could the red thing under her leg be a whoopie cushion or a hot water bag?

Playing devil's advocate... what if they used handcuffs or cable ties - could allow her hands to be spaced further apart.

The light coming into the van could be from a lit up garage, they don't necessarily need to be outside. Or if they are outside they might be on a deserted road/rest stop/camping area.

The kids could be suntanned if they'd only recently been abducted.

Using Occam's razor I actually think the picture is real. I think it's more likely that it's real than that someone went to the trouble to stage it and then place it to be found. My guess is either a trafficking situation or a non custodial abduction (pic taken to show the other parent to 'get at them').

Wearing an Egghead Software shirt in 1989 tells me a few things! The company started out in California in 1984! In 1989 the stores that were all located in California had a promotion to boost business by giving out a floppy disk with purchase, etc to boost business. IMO the family was from California. I also feel that maybe their father or mother worked for the company but I'm totally guessing! I feel that the family was well off enough to have a pretty new Toyota van, possibly software/computer, etc! I just know in 1989 I didn't know anyone that had a computer or were buying software or even software shirts! Also I am sure they have heard about the picture through internet, friends, family members, considering they were into software in 1989! Just my opinion and thoughts only! And again if it were me and my family I'd be afraid to come clean about the staged little joke in fear of getting in trouble due to wasted resources from police and such!

This is an interesting angle - looking at who would have access to these tshirts. I wonder if there is a historian for the company who would know.

There were two other photos, not related to this one, but linked to Calico.

They were never made public until last week, thanks to the unprecedented access to the case files by Melinda Esquibel who's pod cast I linked to above.

<modsnip>

However apart from association with Calico they have no linkage to the Polaroid or the two people we're trying to identify here.

The detailed analysis from the Los Alomos Laboratory identified this as a "purse".

I think the dog logo that the boy is wearing might be intended to be Spud Mckenzie. He was a popular dog used in commercials during the late '80's (he debuted as a Super Bowl commercial for the Giants/Broncos game in early '87).

That's pretty much the assessment from the Lab analysis, that it was Spud Mackenzie in a life ring.

Try as I might I can't find an equivalent image on line. Is it a bespoke / homemade top?

Sorry but I'm not clear on how these pics are related to this thread - were they found with the other photo? They look like a different female to the one in the pic from this thread.

Hard to find online so here's a link:

Can't get the photos to open up on that page so can't view them myself. But reading a bit of the thread seems like there is a general consensus that both photos are fake to the point that you can almost laugh at them a bit.

They have no relation to the Polaroid discussion on this thread, except they were linked to the Calico case.

I was replying to jccoa1999's question on page 46. Sorry - I should have quoted the query to be clearer.

Something just occurred to me; I think sony12 is right about the photo I posted showing the higher res image that I took from Calico's Wikipedia page.

Someone updated that image on that page quite recently. I suspect again from Melinda Esquibel pod cast link. Everywhere else on the web has the low gained "zoomed" in image.

For years, online, everyone has been looking at the "zoomed" image looking for clues!

Did you check the wikipedia edits to see who uploaded the new image?

Yeah I was sure I had never seen that version of the photo before so I was quite surprised when you said you just got it from the wiki page. Let me look at something real quick.

Yeah just as I thought. I looked at this video (uploaded last October) and it does infact show the zoomed in version of the polaroid.

Go to the 5 minute mark of the video where it talks about it.

As far as I know that original version has not been on the internet until very recently. Someone out there seems to have an original version of the polaroid and uploaded it to the internet within the past year (I don't believe it has been on the internet prior to that or else I think it would have been spread around and talked about a lot more than it has).

The original photo definitely doesn't look nearly as ominous as the darkened zoomed in version does.

Gravity Well is Melinda Esquibel connected to the Calico family in some way? Listening to her podcasts it does seem like she knew the Calico family to some degree (which that could explain how she could have gotten her hands on the original version of the polaroid).
