I agree jccoa1999, and hopefully now with those individuals out of the way the truth will hopefully come out.

That still leaves the question as to who these two kids are. If the Calico case is finally solved it might just give the publicity needed to crack this too.
I just don't think this is a case that needs to be cracked! It's either a joke amongst family or a case that has already been cracked amongst family! All these witnesses saying they saw this girl "getting ordered" around on the beach or inside the store buying groceries with a man with a mustache on father's day weekend while the boy was sitting in driver's seat pretending to drive Doesn't sound like anything sinister or peculiar to me! In 1989 I was at Daytona Beach "getting ordered" around by a guy with a mustache too... It was my dad! Ordering me back to the hotel and Away from the boys I was flirting with!

You're probably right, but unfortunately due to the link to the Calico case and the national exposure the photo got it still sticks.

Just like so many people when I first saw this it filled me with horror. It's something that you can't un-see. Your heart goes out to these kids and you want to find answers.

I'm 99% convinced it's staged, but it's that 1% that makes you hope for it to be solved

You know I would bet there are probably thousands of photos out there like this one (kids supposedly being bound and gagged) but most all of them we never hear about because they never got attached to any cases and likely never found their way to the internet.

Isn't the general more accepted theory by those close to the Calico case (accept for Tara's family obviously) that a group of teenage boys drove up next to her while she was riding her bike and either intentionally or unintentionally ran into her and then buried her in the surrounding desert somewhere?

  • #745
Them being from a small town and all I'd have to guess that Tara's parents heard these stories about the teenage boys hitting her with their vehicle and hiding the evidence which is probably why she wanted FBI involved because she knew the case would just be covered up and hidden with the local law enforcement! One of the sheriff's sons would of only been 12 years old back then but there was another son that was Tara's age!

Yes, I think it's one of two main theories — a red truck with a camper on it was seen following her. The other being the van/photo lead. IMO; IIRC.

Chilling:

"The only discoveries were bike tracks, which indicated she had gone off the road onto a soft shoulder, a “Boston” cassette tape, which belonged to Tara and was found by Patty, and the viewing window from her Sony Walkman radio and cassette player.

"Detectives with the sheriff’s department interviewed seven witnesses who reported seeing Tara riding her bike north toward home that day. Five of those witnesses saw an old, light-colored – probably Ford – pickup truck with a camper following Tara at various points along N.M. 47.

"All of the witnesses told police they saw her wearing earphones and appeared unaware of anyone behind her."

Not sure if I'm going off-topic here, but I imagine there's a clandestine market for those kinds of photos.

Which gets me to thinking. Could this photo have been made/set up for that purpose?

(Though I still believe these kids were taken by force. I see haunting wariness and terror in their faces.)

Yes it wouldn't be terribly different from S&M. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if some of the people into S&M would enjoy looking at photos of kids being bound as well (as long as the kids still had clothes on). This photo wouldn't really be considered pornographic in nature because the kids are still fully clothed but some of the people into S&M still might get a kick out of looking at it.

I still think that if the photo was a hoax that it likely was the girls idea to do it and it didn't go any deeper than that. The camera seems focused on her and the book placed right by her makes me think she may have just been acting out an idea she got from reading the book.

I think there's a pretty high chance that this is the scenario we're looking at with these pics.

If this was a hoax (which I believe it is) wouldn't the hoaxers have come forward by now?
It‘s been 28 years!!

Possibly and then possibly not. We don't really know what the mindset of the hoaxers would be. They may not want the attention it might bring them plus a hundred other reasons which would make them want to avoid the situation all together.

Also the lady putting those podcasts together did mention that she was told by a police officer that someone did come forward to him claiming that she was the girl in the picture. However the officer claimed that the computer that he stored the info she told him crashed and he lost everything about it. How valid that story is we don't really know but it is something she has said.

Definitely too old!& The boy in link has blonde hair and blue eyes! And he would've been 18 when this photo was taken!!

I agree! He's too old to be the boy in the photo.
IMO (if this photo is depicting a criminal act), these children weren't ever reported missing.

Yep. Which would likely indicate that if this photo wasn't a complete hoax/joke it was likely something taking place within the family. I think we would have much stronger connections between these two kids and some actual missing children by now other than Tara Calico if they ever were reported missing.

New pod cast distances the Polaroid even more from Calico

Says she is done talking about the Florida pic. Which makes sense as there was only so much info out there about it available to talk about.

Back to the logo on the boy's tee. Listening to the analysis of the photo at the pod cast (around the 13 min mark), it assess the image as that of "Spuds Mackenzie in a life preserver, with possible links to Busch Gardens Tampa". There is no elaboration as to what that link is, but some investigative work must have pointed here.

A good 5 hours south from Port St Joe, but possibly a souvenir t-shirts from the gift shop there while holidaying in the area? But would would a theme park be selling souvenirs with Spuds Mackenzie on, or could it be just a similar looking dog?

It might be a logo from an animal rescue charity, which you'd expect to find on a t-shirts. I can't find the exact image, but if you google for "animal rescue logos" and view by image it certainly has that look about it. Someone might hit lucky an find a match?

So it would appear there is at least a link between Budweiser merchandise and Busch Gardens. Check out the second from last paragraph here that talks about 50 years of memorabilia from Busch Gardens.
