It's hard to tell what the shirt says IMO. I do see Calypso, or Expresso. I'm looking at google pics of 80's t-shirts with these type of words to see if I find anything.

Possibly says CALYPSO on her tee?

That's a good catch. It does look very similar to the Calypso Cay logo. Someone out there has to know these children.....

According to Sunbiz corporate records, the earliest record for Calypso Cay is 2000/2001. I don't believe it existed in 1989.

Could it be a tee just from a place named Calypso? There is a 1940s souvenir here that mentions Calypso without the Cay.

I have an enhanced image of her shirt that will really challenge your sleuthing abilities. To me it looks like one of the "Disney" type shirts where the word "Disney" is spelled out using various Disney characters.

When I study it for a while, I can see clowns, sheep, dogs and even people's faces.

Please tell me what you see.

It was strange, I was seeing a face too above what looked like a second letter! Now that you mention it, with your pic it does look like donald duck.

Yes, and I think the face in the second letter in her tee is a lion dressed up as a clown, if that's possible. It seems to have a lionlike black nose, but there are diamonds painted on its forhead. And it seems to have a tiny human body beneath.....and black hair.

Probably not a lion at all. Meant to be a person with a clown's fake nose.

I'n my comparison to the Disney shirt, I don't see that it's a fit. Though they are definitely cartoon like characters and one of them looks very much like the little dog on the boy's shirt.

Stay tuned for a more clear image to work with.

Looking at the character between the "clown" and what seems to be the letter "s", doesn't it look like the face of the dog or bear on the boys shirt?
Maybe its from a zoo or a circus.

It's definitely a different font for the lettering. I thought about Circus World also, which was in Orlando but I could not find a t-shirt logo anything like it. They closed down somewhere in the late 80s early 90s.

There where 2 other subsequent polaroids found with her image on it in California and one of her on an amtrak somewhere, so the shirt may not indicate where she was from but rather a place she visited as the film from the amtrak was not produced until Feb 1990. She apparently was held captive for some time. It could have been her original clothing though, it is a possibility.

The thought that they might have been offered a trip to Disneyworld, then ended up tied and bound somewhere, is so sad.

Does anybody else think that the middle three letters look like they form a symmetrical shape (a bit like a cat)?

Sorry - yes, I meant a cat's face. Though I suspect it isn't actually a cat, it does look a bit like a shape that has been made out of letters, particularly as it's horizontally centered on the tshirt (perhaps it isn't letters at all).

Re the dog: that's exactly the sort of thing I was imagining. The floppy ears would explain how they look rounded on the tshirt too.

Looking at the dog again, there's a dark patch to the right of it.

It's probably nothing, but conceivably the dog could be chasing a ball. It looks like its front-left paw might be forward and its rear-right paw could be too.

Just to show that people apparently make tshirts like this (albeit running faster in this case):

Yes he looks very similar, but I can't see any pirate attributes on the tshirt dog - hat or bandana - and the tshirt dog's ears look rounder. Certainly the basic dog looks about right, especially the colours.
