GUILTY FL - Quatisha Maycock, 5, left in Everglades, killed by alligators, 6 Nov 1998

That is actually a great observation. I believe it would also work in reverse, that someone who was in a prison gang to protect himself in prison - doing what it takes to survive, might be okay on the outside when there is no immediate threat to his life or his .... ummm, backside.

I think I could get quite resourceful if it were to save my hide.

WAnted to add something here. I've read lots of books by profilers, psychologists who work with inmates, etc and one thing they repeat over and over is that yes, these guys may show "good behavior" in jail but that is because their triggers/ stressors and opportunites aren't there. Kind of like an alcoholic not having a problem drinking on a deserted island, that's because there's no hooch accessible, now once the guy gets back to civilization with a bar on every corner, he's gonna have a problem again. The perp in this story didn't have a chance in jail to abduct and rape, so he was "good". Soon as he faced a stressor/trigger and an opportunity he took it. Good profilers and psychologists can often judge fairly accurately which inmates will offend again and which ones won't---trouble is there aren't enough "good" doctors doing this and the parole boards are obviously filled with idiots!!!!!!!!!

MIAMI -- A Miami jury on Friday is expected to begin deliberating the fate of a man convicted of leaving a young girl to be eaten alive by alligators in the Everglades.

I don't think there is any need to deliberate the fate of this monster. Throw him to the alligators. I remember reading this when it happened and was SO angry then... Well, I am angry again now. I look at that little girl's face, and my heart just breaks. :furious: :furious: :furious:

Why was this woman letting a convicted felon be around her and her daughter? Did she know his history?

In arguing for the death penalty, Assistant State Attorney Abbe Rifkin isn't just relying on the horrific nature of the crime. She is also presenting evidence of Braddy's past to try to show a pattern of behavior.
Braddy has been convicted of robbery, kidnapping, escaping, and trying to kill a corrections officer by choking him.
And he allegedly carjacked a gospel singer in a parking lot in Hialeah and drove him to the same stretch of U.S. 27 where he left Shandelle Maycock. The man testified in Circuit Court on Tuesday that he jumped out of the car and ran from Braddy because he was convinced he was about to be killed. Braddy has not been convicted of the carjacking, but jurors were allowed to hear about it because of the similarity to what he did to Shandelle Maycock.
Rifkin also told the jury that Braddy comes from a good family. He is one of six brothers, and had five children of his own with his wife, who has stuck by him even while he has been in prison.
The fact that Braddy has a supportive family is even more reason to sentence him to death, Rifkin said.
''He had an opportunity for happiness,'' she said. ``In spite of that, in spite of this loving family that he was privileged to be born into, this is the road he took.''
Defense attorney Terence Lenamon questioned Rifkin's contention that little Quatisha died of the injuries she sustained when alligators bit her head and chest. He claimed the child died when her mother grabbed her and jumped out of Braddy's car.
''There is no question here and we are conceding and acknowledging that, based on your verdict, the responsibility for that little girl's death is Mr. Braddy's,'' he said. ``The question is, how did she die and when did she die?''
Testimony is set to continue Wednesday in front of Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Leonard Glick.
The penalty phase of the trial is expected to last through Thursday and maybe longer. The case was delayed Tuesday morning because one juror was arrested after the jury convicted Braddy. Glick dismissed the juror.
If the jury votes for death, the ultimate decision will be up to Glick.

A man should be sentenced to death for trying to kill a young mother and leaving her 5-year-old daughter to be eaten alive by alligators in the Everglades nearly nine years ago, a jury recommended Friday.

A judge will now decide the sentence for Harrel Franklin Braddy, 58, who attacked Shandelle Maycock and daughter Quatisha after he was released early from prison in another case for good behavior. He was convicted last month of first-degree murder, attempted murder, kidnapping, attempted escape and other charges.

The jury voted 11-1, deliberating for just under two hours.

this is not a news site so take it for what it is worth. it is a site for children that have been murdered. scroll down to the 3rd dead child to find this info.

Harrel Franklin Braddy, was a violent career criminal who was twice convicted of attempted murder. He was out of prison because of an “early release” program. None of this was known to Shandelle Maycock who met Braddy at a Church function

MIAMI — A Florida man who left a 5-year-old girl to be eaten alive by alligators and tried to kill her mother was sentenced to death Monday.
Prosecutors said Harrel Franklin Braddy, 58, attacked Shandelle Maycock and daughter Quatisha after he was released early from prison in another case for good behavior. He tossed Maycock in his car trunk in 1998, drove her to a remote sugarcane field and choked her to unconsciousness.
Braddy then drove the girl to a part of the Everglades known as Alligator Alley and dropped her in the water beside the road, prosecutors said. Authorities found the girl's body two days later, her left arm missing and her skull crushed.
Maycock woke up bleeding and disoriented, and survived.
Braddy was convicted in July of first-degree murder, attempted murder, kidnapping, attempted escape and other charges.

This case is one of those that has just haunted me. We don't have a lot of threads on it here at WS's compared to some other stories, but it is one of the most horrible deaths I can imagine a child having to endure. I hope the Hell that awaits him is made "special" for him in some way that causes him to feel her fear and pain for the rest of eternity. This is one, that I could personally pull the switch.

The death sentence is too good for him. He should suffer the same fate as he left the child to suffer. 🤬🤬🤬!

I was so glad to hear that he will die for what he did. I am just sorry it won't be painful.

Here it is :)

MIAMI (AP) — A man convicted of murder for leaving a 5-year-old girl to be eaten alive by alligators in the Everglades was sentenced to death Monday.
A defense attorney said Harrel Franklin Braddy, who already served time in prison for attempted murder but was released early for good behavior, had befriended Shandelle Maycock and her daughter, Quatisha, through his involvement in church outreach programs.
Maycock testified that Braddy showed up at her house in 1998 and grew enraged when she asked him to leave.
Prosecutors said Braddy drove the girl's mother to a remote sugarcane field, choked her to unconsciousness and left her to die. Maycock woke up bleeding and disoriented, but managed to flag down help.
Braddy drove the girl to a section of Interstate 75 in the Everglades known as Alligator Alley and dropped her in the water beside the road, prosecutors said. She was alive when alligators bit her on the head and stomach, a medical examiner said.
