"Detectives say woman in canal was murdered

A woman found dead in a canal near Belle Glade this week was murdered, the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office said Thursday.

Detectives identified the woman as Rasheda Byrd, 28, of Belle Glade. She was last seen Monday night getting into a candy-apple colored compact car outside her grandmother's home in the 600 block of Southwest Avenue C in Belle Glade, detectives said.

She was found dead early Wednesday morning in a canal off the 20 Mile Bend Boat Ramp Road near Southern Boulevard. Detectives suspect she was dumped there shortly before she was discovered.

Authorities are asking anyone who knows where to find the car or its driver to contact the Sheriff's Office at 561-688-3000 or Crime Stoppers at 800-458-8477."

The Palm Beach Canal moves west to east there, significantly, for a canal, when the pumps are running. I do not remember when the PBSO facility was built, but it is relatively new. At night it wouldn’t have mattered whether the facility was there, but she could have been put in a bit west of here at night more secretly and reached this place by morning, and without being eaten, since the highs were barely in the 70s the week prior. There is depressingly little information about this woman’s terrible end, or beginning, for that matter. This investigation could not have been helped by the fact that six months after Ms. Byrd was found, what had quickly become Belle Glade’s pretense of a police department was shut down for good, and its chief indicted. SHERIFF'S OFFICE WILL TAKE OVER DUTIES OF EMBATTLED BELLE GLADE POLICE DEPARTMENT It’s hard to imagine good information coming out of that scramble. Remembering her and hoping for resolution as her anniversary nears.

Good find! Looked around quite a bit this am and could not find anything new, but this bit you located makes me wonder if the perp could be female, speculation, imo.
