FL - Rich & Jane Tylski Face Child Abuse Charges, Jacksonville, 2006

Oh that is just awful Sherri! How many children need to be kept in dangerous situations and harmed or killed before things even begin to change?
til children can vote things will not drastically change imo. not trying to get political here but i think politics do affect how we treat children. both parties pay lip service to protecting our children but it does not happen. this week look at all the time spent dealing with the farm bill or oil prices. yet where is the money for therapy for sexually abuse children? we all know that a abused child can grow up to abuse. think of all the children we could save from future pain if we really cared for the victim before they become a perpetrator. i guess it really is "the economy stupid" because the people in Washington deal with the issues we demand them to fix.

A snip from the article in the first link of this thread:

"The child, who hasn't been identified, was taken to a Jacksonville hospital on March 10. Her parents said she'd fallen down the stairs about eight hours earlier. There's no word on how old she is.

A police report said doctors found extensive bruising and six or seven healing fractures in the child's hand."

The doctors found evidence of the abuse. Their punishment is so light because they have money and probably (hopefully) there are no reported issues with the boys. This little girl was 6 years old. Not really old enough to be telling such serious lies, in my opinion.

Not the little girl's fault that these adults were mean to her. Just an example of how american society is so enamored of money. The woman, at a minimum, should have done at least 5 years in jail, at a minimum!

It's so hard for me to say what happened here, cali. I know a family that was darn near destroyed by a lying foster child - no good deed goes unpunished and all that. I just look at those agencies with a wary eye. I myself would lie and admit to all manner of brutality if it would keep my family intact.

Ironically, I am interested in fostering at some point in my life.

For once we agree, SSM.

We are "fostering" now. It is a wonderful thing. The child is a family member so it was easy for us but I know a couple who lost everything including their marriage over a lying child. He still has to register as a SO even though the girl turned 18 and recanted. He willingly took a lie detector test and passed it yet they still charged him and with a plea deal he did not do time but it ruined his reputation.

it shouldn't. in florida we have repeated cases of children placed in the home with parents found guilty of abuse. all to often they end up dead. my SIL has had her children taken and returned 3 times. she must complete a parenting class and anger management and they give them back as soon as her drug test is clean. even before the classes are done as long as she attends. nothing changes and they never follow up. florida foster care is one of the worst in the country. we had a 6 month old kidnapped from foster care by the mother and it took the state 4 months to even file a report. some of you may remember the case. the child was found in a home where a woman with aids was beaten to death by the baby's mother and others and a small boy was tortured and locked in a closet.

It will still always confuse me. It's nonsensical!

I can see your point scm:blowkiss:but just one look at that woman and I can tell she is a brute.

Are you serious? From this picture?

Are you sure you aren't looking at the picture of the man?

Can I see your picture and make rampant assumptions about you?

Even the guy doesn't look like a brute to me - just kind of big and stupid.

Yes I am serious and no I am not talking about that picture. If you will reread my post I was refrencing the sentencing article I found from yesterday at firtcoastnews.com. Those pictures of her look nothing like the mugshot. Also there is no need to be so rude to get your point across.

He told police his daughter fell down the stairs when she showed up at the hospital with a broken femur in 2006, the incident that prompted the child abuse investigation. Detectives also found a scar on her forehead and mangled fingers, including one permanently deformed from being bent back.
Ultimately the girl was removed from the Tylskis' home and placed with a new family. Her new mother described a loving, active child who loves music and family activities.
"The Tylskis' loss is our gain," her mother said. "She is an essential part of our family, and we can't remember life without her."

I don't think a foster parent is even allowed to spank the foster children at all much less with a belt. A troubled child could exaggerate a few things, but I'd like to know how the girl exaggerated broken bones in her hands and legs. If the girl could have been having huge meltdowns where she hit things and kicked walls then the two should have filmed, documented, and gotten some immediate help with any swelling or pain. I suppose the healing fractures were untreated.

You are right - no spankings or physical punishment at all is allowed, at least in Texas. Foster children would be removed in a heartbeat and foster parents could lose their license for using physical punishment. My older kids tell me now "you should have spanked us mom, no matter what they said" - LOL, yeah, right !!
