Florida A&M University reached a settlement with the family of Robert Champion today. In exchange for dropping the impending negligence lawsuit against the university, FAMU will pay the Champion family $1.1 million, name the marching band's anti-hazing program after Champion, and place a memorial plaque in the school's band room.

The Florida Supreme Court has upheld the conviction of a former Florida A&M “Marching 100” member in the hazing death of a drum major.

Dante Martin appealed his conviction for manslaughter, felony hazing and misdemeanor hazing in the death of Robert Champion.

In all, 13 people were charged in Champion’s death. Smith is the only former band member still in prison, serving a six year sentence.

FAMU settled with the Champion family for $1.1 million and has made an apology.
