So could she be from Africa?

Not likely. That’s her ethnic origin meaning she descended from the peoples of Africa. Kinda like my 40% Czech & 30% German just means that’s where my people descended from, and immigrated from, back in 1895.

bumping this. I had no idea but she was found pretty much around the corner from my house. In the Pinellas mugshot she has a Florida t shirt on. Odd for a Floridian. It also seems her neck was swollen. Possible thyroid issue?

Thyroid is lower than that.

I went looking for any missing women that matched her physically and from the time frame of 1978-1980. I'm still looking but came up with a couple potential matches. I need to do more research.

Couple questions from you fellow websleuthers that have experience with working on unidentified cases. How often are the height and weight wrong? If I have someone that I think is a good match, do I reach out to the detective in charge of the case? I recently won,at a benefit auction, a ride along with the brevard sheriff. I am super excited and hoping he will give me some details!

Does anyone think that the scarring on the ankles mean that she was possibly shackled for a bit? I have seen descriptions that say a gun shot to the head and some include SA. In 1980, the place where she was found was an undeveloped section of Rockledge and was likely near a cattle field or orange groves. Today it is a very busy intersection with a Walgreens and a Verizon. It makes me think whoever dumped her was familiar with the area. It is only about a mile off I-95 but likely in 1980 there was no exit there. The name she used was not random in my opinion. She had to have known a Joanne English. Childhood friend, neighbor, relative etc.

Heights are often invoked in NamUs. I would call the Sheriff's office and ask which detective handles cold cases and speak to that investigator with your match. Have the NamUs file numbers of both the UID and the missing person on hand.

In my experience with Does there is no rhyme or reason how they make up the alias name.

@mst did your enquiries yield any response?

I really hope this is the year that a well-matched relative of Ms Rockledge's gets a DNA test in their Christmas sack.

MP22946 Ila Maynard went missing several years prior, and there was innuendo that maybe her husband was responsible, but I see a bit of a resemblance to UID and she has the NC connection

I quite literally was at the spot or very close to it tonight as there is a pizza place there now. Nothing marks the area as a memorial or even an inkling that she was found there. In the early 80s, this area was very rural. Cows and orange groves. The area is only about a mile from I-95 though. There's an exit here today but doubtful it was there then. Leads me to wonder if it was a local who knew the area

On the Pringles shirt-- we don't know where that came from, we don't know if the Doe got it someplace in person, or she got it at some job, or a store. Or maybe got it used at a thrift. But just noting, Pringles are manufactured in Jackson TN and at the time, I think they're associated with Procter & Gamble, which had some kind of facilities in Georgia (Union City, I think, GA, maybe other spots in Georgia). Union City's mentioned by someone reminiscing online about Pringles earlier years and where she could get them. I think P&G also had some kind of facility in North Carolina. That's what I was seeing online. So the Doe may well have gotten that tee at some promotion somewhere, I would think.

Just based on pure resemblance to the image that they have of the Doe, Sheila Cooks? No details on circumstances. Sheila Cooks:
1758021358997.webp

May 16 1979 missing from Austin TX. 18 yo, 5'3" 95lbs. Namus is saying the 5'6" for the Doe is estimated. Sheila last seen wearing white blouse & blue jeans.
Definitely seeing a resemblance but jmo, but that may be all it is, is a resemblance. Updating with this page, that has more on circumstances:
And found this video with Sheila's family:
