Markeith Loyd Testifies That he Went in "War Mode," Shot Ex-Girlfriend Sade Dixon

"ORLANDO, Fla. — While taking the stand for the second day in a row, Markeith Loyd said on Tuesday that he went into "war mode" and shot his pregnant ex-girlfriend Sade Dixon, saying he was the victim in all of this.

When he took the stand on Tuesday, Judge Leticia Marques told Loyd several times to answer the questions the prosecution has asked him directly and not to stray from the topics....

Loyd said after Dixon pulled out a gun, he took out two of his guns. According to Loyd, Dixon's brother Ron Dixon grabbed him. Loyd said he feared for his life, so he acted in self defense.

On Tuesday, he said that he went on "war mode" and shot Dixon.

Loyd also said that he is a victim in all of this....

As Loyd stepped down from the stand on Tuesday, the defense rested and the state asked the judge if the lead detective for the shooting death of Orlando Police Department Lt. Deborah Clayton could take the stand....

After Loyd's testimony wraps up, his defense attorneys are expected to call a firearms expert to the stand before attorneys present closing arguments.

The jury could begin deliberations by Wednesday.

There was another juror issue that came up on Tuesday...."

Markeith Loyd trial timeline: Day 12

"2:45 p.m.

Judge Marques continued to go through the jury instructions, and at one point she said, with a slight chuckle, "That motion is denied Mr. Loyd, but thanks for letting me know.” The motion Loyd requested is unknown.

Marques said that guns entered into evidence cannot go into the jury room, but that “some of the exhibits will be sent into the jury room with you.” She also said any other evidence can be requested in writing.

2 p.m.

At this point, Markeith Loyd had a difficult time staying awake.

Judge Leticia Marques noticed that Loyd was falling asleep.

Marques: “Mr. Loyd are you awake or falling asleep? If we got you some coffee will that wake you up?”

She asked someone to get coffee or something with caffeine.

“If that’s a problem let me know. He needs to be awake during jury instructions,” Marques said.

Loyd told the judge he didn't sleep well last night.

Loyd got his coffee and managed to stay awake as he sipped it, keeping his head down...."

I hate to make a comment like this but I can't deny that I always feel a sense of frustration with victims in these types of situations. By that I mean, women who date ex-cons. Men who clearly demonstrate a criminal personality. Women with children who bring their children around these dangerous men. This case reminds me of the Luis Toledo case, where Toledo (ex-con) killed his live-in girlfriend (or was it wife?) and her 2 children, his stepchildren because she was having an affair.

The relationships are volatile with both parties egging each other on. These men are violent and there's only one way it's going to end, and the women don't seem to grasp that. In this case, the victim met this guy off social media. Immediately entered into an intimate relationship. Just jumped in with both feet. I know she was young and we make stupid decisions when we're young. And we don't fully grasp how fleeing life can be at that age. We can be reckless. And obviously this is not an excuse for what he did. He's vile and dangerous and needs to be locked up for good. I just can't help wanting to scream "leave the ex-cons alone!!"

Yes enelram, I remember those days around here when he hadn't been caught yet...pretty creepy. He has tried to manipulate everything since he was caught, just as he tried to do at trial, but fell very flat.

I tried watching the defense closing but had to turn it off after the tenth(?) time of his lawyer screaming wtf.

State rebuttal closing is good. Addressing all the ways in which ML was controlling and abusive throughout the relationship. That's evident in his own testimony. And when she escaped his control and went back home he killed her. He tried to kill the rest of the family by firing towards the door after the murder because he resented them because they didn't like him.

eta: that last sentence is my own conclusion, the prosecutor didn't say that.
