Good job jury! Finally this jury did something right! Phew. Basically guilty on all charges!!

Guilty on all counts!!

Wow they will remain sequestered for 3 days before the penalty phase begins on Monday!! That is a major imposition on a jury. It's asking too much. Why can't they go immediately into the penalty phase with a sequestered jury? That's what usually happens I've never seen a delay like this with a sequestered jury.

eta: I think it's bc the state's expert is not allowed to interview ML until after he's found guilty. So they need the next couple days to do that before the penalty phase begins. But still. I'd be a little ticked of as a juror. No phone. No laptop. Whew. That's tough!

The jury found Markeith Loyd guilty on all counts, including the attempted murder of three of Dixon's family member.
Loyd was silent as the verdict was read. He nodded slightly to his family.
Dixon's mother was crying silently. :(

Local news just talked to Sade's mom and she is very happy after having to hear her daughter being talked about and dragged through the mud during the trial.

Thank you Jury! I'm surprised he contained himself like he did throughout.
He should just plead Guilty to killing Officer Clayton.

Thank you Jury! I'm surprised he contained himself like he did throughout.
He should just plead Guilty to killing Officer Clayton.
so agree with you. Loyd is no dummy. And apparently he has a charming, like-able side
based on all the people helping him hide when
he was on the run after he killed Sade. Even the mgr. of the chicken place was giving food to be taken to him. After they knew he'd killed Sade.
And he convinced 4 business owners to hire him even with his previous record as a convicted felon who did hard time.
Such a shame that he chose the path he did, he
probably could have made something out of his life with better guidance and a different upbringing.

Jury in Markeith Loyd trial to consider if killing unborn child warrants death penalty (with clip)

Oct 17, 2019

"ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. - Jurors are set to make a decision regarding the death penalty for Markeith Loyd in the slaying of his pregnant ex-girlfriend, Sade Dixon.

Loyd was found guilty by a jury on all charges against him Wednesday, including first-degree murder of Dixon and the unborn child.

Testimony revealed that Dixon was about 12 weeks pregnant....

The jury will also be able to consider the fact that Loyd killed someone under the age of 12 as an aggravating factor when deciding on the case's punishment.

The penalty phase is set to begin Monday morning. "

9 things to know about penalty phase in Markeith Loyd trial

Oct 20, 2019

"ORLANDO, Fla. -
1. Markeith Loyd was found guilty of five violent crimes during the first phase of his trial: two counts of first-degree murder and three counts of attempted murder.

2. Loyd faces two individual death sentences, one each for the murder of his ex-girlfriend Sade Dixon, and her unborn baby.

3. Now that the trial has entered the penalty phase, Loyd’s extensive criminal history—including time in federal prison on drug charges—is fair game for prosecutors.

4. Loyd’s past is also fair game for his defense team, which will explore his life dating back to childhood for things that could soften the jury’s view of the convicted killer.

5. Jurors are likely to spend more time in court deciding how to punish Loyd than they did deciding whether to convict; both sides have indicated they intend to spend more time questioning witnesses during the penalty phase.

6. The jury has only two options in this case: life in prison without the possibility of parole and the death penalty.

7. The jury does not impose any potential sentence of death. The jury makes a recommendation to the judge, who ultimately imposes the sentence.

8. The jury’s recommendation for death is not the end of the process. That recommendation triggers a waiting period, followed by a final hearing in front of the judge, at which Loyd would have an opportunity to present any final evidence that his life should be spared.

9. When it’s all finished, Loyd still faces a separate trial in 2020 for the murder of Orlando police Lt. Debra Clayton. Once again, the death penalty will be on the table."

#MarkeithLoyd - Prosecution: 2 aggravating factors to consider during this phase for the murder of Sade Dixon: 1. Loyd was on probation at the time. 2. Loyd was previously convicted of a felony, battery of an officer in 1998. Jury can also consider the convictions from last week

#LoydTrial // State says there are two aggravating factors the jury can determine as they say "proper punishment for murder of Sade Dixon and her unborn child"
1) Loyd was on probation at the time of the murder
2) Previous conviction of a violent felony - battery on an officer

Cathy Russon‏ @cathyrusson 2h2 hours ago
#MarkeithLoyd - For Dixon's unborn child there are 3 aggravating factors - same two aggravating factors as mother and also aggravating factor that child is under 12-years-old.

Nadeen Yanes‏Verified account @NadeenNews6 2h2 hours ago
#LoydTrial // Factor #2 is interesting: The state says it's from a battery on law enforcement officer in 1998. State says we will hear from that officer:
"On how the defendant punched him in the fact and in the body multiple times..." - ASA Rich Buxman

Nadeen Yanes‏Verified account @NadeenNews6 2h2 hours ago
#LoydTrial // ASA also says there is a third factor as well. 3) That the death of the unborn child was under the age of 12.

#LoydTrial // Defense @TerryLenamon opening statements on why he says Markeith Loyd shouldn't get death penalty:
"He gets a life sentence, back to back life without parole, he's never getting out. You already decided that. Markeith Loyd is dying in prison by your decision."

#LoydTrial // This is what @TerryLenamon told us after Markeith Loyd was found guilty last week on his thoughts on the death penalty:
"I think the death penalty is the wrong message we are sending in society, and I'm hopeful that this jury will give him life."

#LoydTrial // Defense @TerryLenamon taking a personal approach to his opening statements. Talking about Markeith Loyd's upbringing in Carver Shores and Pine Hills:
"There were two routes you either robbed or you deal drugs and he didn't want to rob so he dealt drugs."

#LoydTrial // "This is not an excuse for the murders, your verdict was just based on your belief system. This is about whether you are going to sanction the killing of a human being without considering all the facts now that you have." -Defense @TerryLenamon @news6wkmg

#LoydTrial // State's first witness in the penalty phase is David Kinard, Markeith Loyd's probation officer @news6wkmg

Nadeen Yanes‏Verified account @NadeenNews6 2h2 hours ago
#LoydTrial // State says the fact Markeith Loyd was on probation at time of Sade Dixon's murder is "aggravating factor" when determining death penalty. Kinard testified Loyd was on probation for 5 years after serving 12 years in prison.
"From July 9th 2014 to July 9th 2019 ."
