I’ve read about this on other sites but I can’t find it here.

A pregnant woman was fatally shot after she caused a hit-and-run and fled to her home, where she was gunned down by the other party involved, police said. Sara-Nicole Morales, 35, who was 5-months-pregnant, is said to have intentionally hit a motorcyclist, identified as Andrew Derr, while driving

Derr, who was not injured in the “minor crash,” asked Morales to stay on the scene while he called police, and pursued her along with other witnesses when she refused, cops said.

The incident took place around 5.15 pm on Saturday, November 20, in Orange City, located about 45 miles from Orlando, Florida. Andrew Derr was taken into custody, who repeatedly claimed that he shot the woman in 'self-defense,' according to Orange County Police. No charges were filed against Andrew in connection with Sarah's death as of Tuesday.

[…]

According to police, once at her home, Sarah went inside and pulled a gun at Andrew and other witnesses, who were on call with a 911 operator. Holding the gun, Sarah also called 911 and told the operator that she was being threatened by three 'aggressive' men. It was at this moment, that Andrew, who is a concealed weapons permit holder, drew his handgun and fired several rounds at her. Sarah was declared dead at Halifax Health Medical Center. Her unborn child did not survive as well.

On her 911 call she can be heard saying “You are three men following me” then seven gunshots from Derr.

Did she know the motorcyclist? Why did she intentionally hit him with her car? Is it certain that she did intentionally hit him, or could it have been accidental?

Such a strange and tragic story.

Strange case leaving me with questions. Did Morales know Derr in any way prior to this? Why would she intentionally hit him? Mental health issues involved here?

ETA: No charges filed against him. Interesting.

<modsnip> She must have barely tapped him because he didn’t fall down or fall off the bike and he was able to pursue her on his motorcycle with two other men.

It’s just seems so much of the other witnesses to everything are his friends. <modsnip>

The self defense, defense, seems to be very elastic.

I am all for self defense but I can’t shake something is not what they are saying about this.

Right! Usually car vs motorcycle means serious injuries to the motorcyclist.

Yes! They both must have been stopped. Maybe she was trying to get around him?

A pregnant librarian intentionally taking on a motorcyclist and his friends just doesn’t jibe with me.

I would be terrified if three male motorcyclists followed me. What a shame there was not a police station for her to drive to.

They could have got her license number and called police to arrest her.Sometimes I feel like this country is turning too much like vigilantes

Can't get my head around this one. He faces no charges?

Nothing about this seems right. How do 3 bikers chase a pregnant woman to her HOME and then when she gets her weapon from INSIDE her HOME to protect herself, one shoots her and claims self defense?!?!

In Snoods’ link above, it states that she has an 11 year old daughter. Was the daughter with her at the time? If my kids were with me, or even in the house, and I felt threatened by some bikers who had followed me home, I would have gotten my weapon too.

i may not have gone back outside with it… idk. Fear can make people react differently that they think they would.

Also I would like to hear both 911 calls and know what the dispatcher was telling each of them to do.

I dont think that has been fully determined yet. Some times grey area self defense claims take a long time to sort out.

In this case, there could be two very different stories:

- Driver of car <modsnip> intentionally hits motorcyclist. <modsnip> The driver then chooses to leave the scene of the accident. They simply follow her.

She goes home, then makes a choice to leave her home and confront them with a pistol. Were they on the doorstep and refusing to leave? Or, were they waiting on a public road?

<modsnip: referenced post snipped>
Rather, what matters to me is <modsnip> where he was when the deceased confronted him with a weapon (refusing to leave the porch, or say on the street).
How about don’t chase people down and then you won’t have to claim “self defense” when they don’t submit to your scare tactics…
Very sound advise. So is:

- Dont intentionally hit other vehicles, then leave. And... Dont point weapons at other people- they might shoot back.

In short, I imagine both people could have handled this better.

What is known is that she retrieved a weapon from inside her home after intentionally striking somebody, then leaving the scene.

What is not known is her intentions. She evidently pointed at other people- none of whom were trying to enter her home. Thus, her intention may of been to harm others with the weapon.

Her being pregnant increases the tragedy. Her being female does not excuse her actions.

<modsnip: quoted post edited> We don't know if she hit him intentionally or if it was an accident. She isn't alive to tell what happened.

A few years ago, I accidentally bumped the rear wheel of a motorcycle as we waited in line to exit the parking lot on to a busy road. He was stopped in front of me when he advanced as if he was entering the road. I looked to my left, watching oncoming traffic as I let off my brake to roll forward, He suddenly stopped a couple of feet into the road, rear wheel at the edge of the exit. I threw my hand to mouth and waved at him, mouthing "Oh, so sorry!" He was not dislodged at all from his bike, acknowledged the gesture, and went on his way.

Thank God he was a reasonable person who didn't chase me home with his buddies, come into my house and gun me down.
