I don't get it. If mom & SB planned this together, why did SB publicly proclaim that Tina was responsible and needed to come clean with where she put the baby? If she wanted to keep Shannon, she wouldn't want LE to focus on her co-conspirator. I'd think she'd want to portray Tina as the loving mother of a missing child who was incapable of hurting her.
If Tina is mentally 'challenged', could she have kept up this farce for so long ?
Something is really fishy, IMO.

I can't get past this either. I'm smelling some manipulation somehow by SB. What a perfect story to spin to LE. "Well sirs, you see it wasn't a kidnapping, mom gave the baby to me"......yeah that's the ticket.

ETA: I'm going to have to see and read mom's confession before I buy this.

Bloggers HINDERED the investigation? WHY? Did they want to keep OBSERVING SB and JB while the baby remained living in a cedar BOX?

I really would love to know what in the heck is going on with LE on this case. I am hoping there is a REASONABLE explanation. From the outside, it looks like bloggers HASTENED Shannon's discovery!!!

Please tell me LE didn't say that? And completely agree with you on the above!

I hope someone is appointed to work with Shannon's mom, a psych type person, so that they can gain her trust and try to find out what really happened.

Again, I would bet my life that Susan Baker manipulated Shannon's mom into going along with the plan, or Susan made up the story and Shannon was told earlier that she had to go along with it, or else. Susan is a liar, manipulator, opportunist and may even have delusions of grandeur.

Probably doesn't want anyone to know that the leading tip came from a "blogger" - don't you think that would make them look bad???

Im mad all over again. We all know how the prosecuter will drop misdemeanors to get a felony charge. I looked up Florida Law on 2ed degree neglect with aggravating circumstances..................."c) For a felony of the second degree, by a term of imprisonment not exceeding 15 years.

Maybe they didn't . . . .

Were the Bakers not with LE all day yesterday; as was reported earlier. Then given permission to enter the home, LE went to the house at approx 8 PM, Shannon was located approx 10 PM. (believe me I have no trouble being wrong...)

This is where I believe the 12 hour time line came from. They may have exaggerated, I hope that is the case. I can't think of anything much worse than being trapped like this.

Except maybe the CA 2 yr old who was being tossed into his crib, as a form of discipline, wrapped in duct tape legs, feet, arms and according to LE, his mouth. Til the night he aspirated. He was 2 yrs 2 weeks old the night he died.

Mom and boyfriend currently jailed on murder charges.

In the recent presser I believe LE stated that they figured the time out because they had brought SB into the station around 8:30am? Something like that. I haven't rewatched the presser and could be wrong.

I was commenting on the statement "How could they think they could leave her in a box for 12 hours and she'd be ok". What I meant was, maybe they were not expecting to come home to a live baby.

Also, I'm wondering since SB was throwing TM under the bus, maybe she was hoping that with TM's mental capacity, maybe she'd start to question it, too. I volunteered with some mentally disabled in high school and it wasn't difficult to confuse them and make them think what someone else was telling them was correct.

The word "blogger" has become something of a catch all for people posting online - perhaps they were referring to this Tab person.

I find this information on them and another one still missing and a child that was removed from there home from broken bones...help me find the information please...

CHIPLEY — Washington County Sheriff Bobby Haddock announced the arrest of Susan Baker, 50, and Cristina Lynn Mercer, 25, both of Chipley, in the disappearance of 7-month-old Shannon Dedrick.

Baker, the child's babysitter and half-sister to the child's father, was charged with:

* Neglect of a child with aggravated circumstances - 2nd degree felony
* Interference with child custody - 3rd degree felony
* Filing a false report regarding a missing child - 1st degree misdemeanor
* Filing a false report of a crime - 1st degree misdemeanor
* Contributing to the delinquency of a child - 1st degree misdemeanor

Mercer, the child's mother, was charged with:

* Interference with child custody - 3rd degree felony
* Desertion of a child - 3rd degree felony
* Filing a false report regarding a missing child - 1st degree misdemeanor
* Filing a false report of a crime - 1st degree misdemeanor
* Contributing to the delinquency of a child - 1st degree misdemeanor

According to a news release from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, investigators learned that on the night of Oct. 30, Baker and Mercer agreed to allow Baker to take permanent custody of the baby. The two arranged to meet at 1:30 a.m. on Oct. 31 at Mercer's residence for Mercer to give the child to Baker. Mercer later reported the child missing at 11:23 a.m.

Ahh... that explains it. They probably did say it to her - meaning her.

If they knew the connection from the get go, then they were not acting responsibly by not searching SB's property before last night.

Let's not be so quick to criticize this sheriff and his team. They've had one of the rare successes in this type of case, and most likely it's because they did everything right. Keep in mind that they did indeed know SB's background -- she already had a record in this county due to her (and JB's) extradition to Beaufort County, SC in 2000. They knew she (and I think JB too) had been formally charged in connection with the disappearance and presumed murder of 3 year old Paul Baker. They knew she had been convicted of severely beating a young girl in her care, Paul's sister. In other words, they had good reason to believe this is someone who assaults and KILLS children. People like this can decide to kill without hesitation, the second they think it's in their own best interests.

LE had Tina the whole time -- not sure if she was technically "in custody", but she would have been quickly if she'd tried to leave (they may have had her in some sort of "protective custody" due to her mental disability). They were keeping her away from SB/JB and probably getting a lot of information from her. They may well have known early on that Tina had given Shannon to SB and that the plan was for SB to take care of Shannon. Their number one priority had to be not triggering anything that would cause SB to kill Shannon, before they dould plant themselves physically between SB/JB and the presumed location of the Shannon (which dogs may have identified as SB/JB's house very early on).

What they needed NOT to do was head over to the house with SB or JB in it, with SB (and I think JB) knowing exactly where in the house Shannon was, while all police knew was that they were pretty sure Shannon was somewhere in the house. If SB saw police coming, and Shannon was starting to fuss enough to be heard from the box under the bed, SB could very well have decided to kill Shannon on the spot. A quick opening of the box to strap duct tape tightly around Shannon's mouth and nose and wrists, close up the box -- less than a minute, when she's planned for this possibility -- then invite the police on in with confidence that there would be no baby noises. I'm really, really glad LE didn't go that route.

We don't know all the details of what LE knew and when, but it's unlikely they did anything really stupid. They were no doubt hampered a bit by the need for either permission from SB/JB for a search, or a search warrant, and I don't know why there was several hours delay (apparently) from the time LE got SB and JB out of the house, to when they went into the house, but I'm perfectly willing to assume at this point that they knew a lot about the details fo the situation, and were basing their decisions on what they knew.

LOL! UNDER the jail? I have a feeling that may just be Tab's poor language skills when she missed the mark trying to say "in jail", but I'll be happy to agree with the suggestion literally. UNDER would be excellent.
It's an expression, I've heard it many times. Means you're to "low" for jail even.

THANK YOU! I have calmed down now. :innocent:

Yes, they use it on the east coast up here, too - as in, "he doesn't deserve to be in the jail, they should put him under it."

we are sleuthing posters not bloggers!! I'm going with the Tab person was hindering considering she was saying the baby was dead and burried. I'm thinking maybe DCF needs to check on her kids as she has left them in the care of a monster. Oh and she was aware of the monsters past. Of course she was innocent and all that was crap. You know missing step children and all....GRRRR

I was writing as you posted. ITA. I think they knew what they were doing - LE that is - and since they were careful a child is alive and charges will not be thrown out on a technicality.

I quite agree. And LE may have known a LOT more than we imagine. For example, it's possible they'd managed to get a listening device into the house, or gotten some very sophisticated listening device close enough to the house to hear what was going on inside. It's possible they had audio evidence of a routine in which Shannon was hidden away most of the time in some place where she couldn't be heard, and brought out periodically for feedings and diaper changes. If so, the last thing they would have wanted to do was to panic SB into breaking that routine and killing Shannon to make her easier to conceal. It's also possible that JB started cooperating with police a lot earlier than they've let on, so they could have gotten all kinds of information from him about what was going on inside the house (e.g. same routine as described above) -- that could explain why he's been let out already.
