Found Deceased Fl - Shizuka Matsuki, 47, Walking Dog Missing After Alligator Attack, Davie, 8 Jun 2018

When hunting for food, gators are opportunistic hunters. Most likely attacked and grabbed the dog who wriggled away and then
grabbed the woman. Large gators, over 9 ft. or so, wouldn't hesitate to attack a human.
Actually, considering there's more than a million gators in Fl. and
they reside in every county, it's noteworthy that there's not more
attacks than there are. also considering all the lakes and canals
are where they inhabit, attacks are pretty rare.
They also migrate across land. My neighbor found one on her doorstep.
Have no clue where it came from.

Actually the alligator in the pickup above is a pretty small one
which is probably why the 'catcher' was lax about it. the big ones
can really knock you for a loop and their tails are lethal weapons.

It is very sad. I didn't know how far they could lunge.

Thank you Enelram, for your informative post.

I had no idea there were so many - astounding to hear this!

I agree, then, that it is amazing there aren't more attacks. Thankfully there aren't but this case is so deeply saddening.

During alligator breeding season (which is right now), during a drought
and during food shortages, alligators will take to wandering on
land looking for whatever- food, breeding partner, water, etc.
Otherwise they stick to their home territory.
They will violently defend their nests which can contain dozens
of eggs. But overall, they're not a huge problem if you use common sense when in their territory.

How awful. I hope she passed quickly. Thoughts & prayers for her family & friends. And of course those poor dogs.

I wonder if perhaps the gator tried to take her dog but she tried to fight it off, so the gator dragged her into the water instead? Poor lady, this is so horrifying!

Human body parts were found in the stomach of an a 12-foot alligator that was captured at a South Florida pond where it attacked and likely killed a woman Friday, officials said.

The gator was captured after the woman was reported missing near the pond at Silver Lakes Rotary Nature Park in the 5600 block of Southwest 52nd Avenue in Davie, police said.

Officials with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, which is handling the investigation, said in a statement that "evidence was found that indicates that the victim of this incident was bitten by the alligator."

FWC officials said body parts were located in the gator and sources told NBC 6 that an arm was found in the stomach. They identified the missing woman as 47-year-old Shizuka Matsuki, of Plantation.

How awful. What a horrific way to go. This poor woman and her family. Such an awful thing to happen but I can't even imagine being out of state when something like this happens and having to travel home like that. :(
