If I heard correctly, Mr. Patton sent the siblings out to search for Somer.

Does Florida have an inordinate amount of these cases or am I misremembering? Omg not again.. poor child. She got separated from the group. The sibling described it as, "she walked away." At first I misunderstood and thought that it happened TODAY after school. This happened yesterday, so she didn't (couldn't) come home last night. This is bad.

forgive me if this has been said.....but why arent the po po sending a bolo and description of the car out there? Shouldnt that be done before that car is gone and the people are across the border, just to be safe and rule them out??? jmo

I'm not sure, but the good samaritan's description of the event might have been pretty shaky. She said she pulled her car off of the road to check on the little girl who was on her bike, she saw the black-haired lady in the blue car, and the blue car sped off before she looked back up.

I'm not saying she's lying, just that her recollection might be extra iffy. IDK.

It seems to be (just my opinion) that Mr. Patton could potentially be the mothers boyfriend, but LE and the family are avoiding calling him that to cause people to raise their eyebrows and look at him. I find it odd that a male family friend would live with a divorced woman and her three children. LIVE there, not help take care of them.

Sounds like a boyfriend to me.

Once again, JMO.

Okay, so mom wasn't home, a friend of mom's was there to greet the kids?

Maybe the friend didn't realize Somer was missing for a little while.

Presser said he asked siblings where Somer was. He then sent the siblings out searching for 1 hour before mom called home.

I just got this alert on my phone and it happened yesterday?

<going to call cell provider>

There's not a whole lot of info yet is there?
Exactly. The whole idea is the immediacy of the situation for the chance that people may be able to spot something right after it happens. dang. The next day is better than nothing, but still - it's late.

Sorry I know this isn't incredibly relavant but are you saying that only in the state of Oregon there are houses with attics?

The house I grew up in in Missouri has a huge attic (built 1919). My dad's house has an attic (pull down) and a bomb shelter (cold war era home, lol). My grandmother who lived in GA for awhile had an attic and her house was built in the 80's. I think it is a feature that is being phased out in newer houses but I think there are still plenty of houses around the country which have attics - FWIW.

I was responding to someone who thought all houses have attics. The point is, not all of them do is all.

Okay, I'm now suspicious. What if Somer got home a few minutes before the rest of the kids did and he he did something to her? By sending the others out to look for her, he could finish up whatever it was he was doing? My hinky meter is way up!

Presser on HLN also

Just so you know - the HLN reporter is also the news4jax reporter, so if you don't want to duplicate your efforts, try CBS/FOX or 1st Coast News for possible add'l info.

I think her attention was focused on the little girl, who was crying and saying no, rather than the car. It appears her concern was the safety of the little girl first and the car last. Sounded genuine to me.

Didn't cross my mind. Scary.

Credible theory since she did run "ahead."

BBM.

Okay, that's new info.

I'd like to know:

1) where did she initially separate from them?
2) where did she make contact again?
3) where did they lose her yet again?

Hinkety-hink.

I second that. Hadn't thought of it that way but definitely a plausible scenario with what little information we have.

So it's a fact that the man LIVES with them? Or he was just there to greet the kids. Color me corn-fused!

Why? There is nothing to indicate the mother's friend has done anything to Somer. Why draw suspicion on someone with no cause?

This world is currently screwed up....first it was "was mom home", then it was "were they latch kid keys", "why wasn't there someone at the house to watch them", etc....then when we find out there was someone at the house and it was a male it becomes "he could have done something to her cause he sent her siblings out to look for her".....

I am not pointing fingers at anyone as this is has the world has become in regards to "missing kids"...

But I will say that my first thought may have been (and I say MAY have) to have the kids backtrack to where they saw her, or go to friends houses, as they KNOW where it was....now send 1 child - no.....send a few of them together...yes

I hit submit too soon....I would have been looking around the house, making phone calls, etc while they were out checking the area. He could have been waiting for the kids to get back before calling mom as he didn't want to worry her unnecessarily....

at last presser LE said that Mr. P lives there. And also that he is the one that is home every day to greet kids from school (a reporter asked if they came home to an empty house of if someone was with them)

This is what I am having problems with... say she walks ahead... well, for something suspicious to happen ahead of the group of children it would have been like a bolt of lightening for the kids not to catch up and see it happen! As NOW LE is saying that she didn't "run" ahead but "walked off".. per the last presser.

ORANGE PARK, Fla. -- Twenty-four hours after a 7-year-old failed to come home from school, helicopters, bloodhounds and mounted deputies joined a least one hundred law enforcement personnel and an untold number of citizens in a massive search for the girl.

An Amber Alert was issued about 9 a.m. Tuesday for Somer Renee Thompson, who was reported missing from her Grove Park neighborhood of Orange Park. At an afternoon briefing, Clay County investigators for the first time called Somer endangered and said "We do suspect foul play."

Somer was last seen walking home from school about 2:45 p.m. Monday.

"We're hoping for the best, but we're working as if it is a crime scene." Clay County Sheriff Rick Beseler said Tuesday morning. "Time is of the essence. Every moment that goes by is not in our favor. That's why the push is so hard."

Somer is described as 3 feet 5 inches tall and 65 pounds with brown hair in a pony tail with a red bow. She was last seen wearing a cranberry-colored sweatsuit with pink stripe on the sleeve and pants. She also had a black, pink and white backpack with a skull and hearts. She may be wearing a white hat and scarf.

Clay County Tip Line: 877-227-6911 or [email protected]

Deputies said the second-grader was last seen at 2:45 p.m. walking home from Grove Park Elementary School near West Gano Avenue and Debarry Avenue with her twin brother and her sister. Authorities were told she ran ahead of them after "a childhood squabble" with her twin brother.

Beseler said deputies were out all night using infrared cameras and dog teams to search the wooded areas. Beseler said when deputies finished interviewing the 58 registered sex offenders within three miles of where Somer disappeared; they expanded the search to a five-mile radius.

Beseler said some of his deputies who were ending their shifts Monday when Somer was reported missing Monday afternoon were still actively searching at midday Tuesday. By 4 p.m. crews were transitioning to a 12-hour rotation.

100s Search For Missing Girl
Tuesday morning, teams search wooded areas within the one-mile radius for a second time as well as searching a larger area.

"We still don't have any indication that is an abduction, but working on the assumption that a 7-year-old would not be gone for this length of time, we have been able to meet the criteria for an Amber Alert notification," Beseler said.

The girl's father lives in North Carolina and has been contacted.

Beseler is asking residents in the Grove Park area to look through their yards, parked cars and adjacent properties. He asked if you see anything unusual, including a backpack, clothing or shoes, to not pick them up, but call the sheriff's office at 904-264-6512 or call 911.

Beseler asked that volunteers not go into wooded areas before they can search them with dogs looking for the girl's scent.

Deputies and detectives from every branch of the Clay County Sheriff's Office -- about 100 personnel -- were looking for Somer. Additional support is also being provided by the St. Johns and the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office. The FBI has also assigned a member to assist Clay County, along with staff from the FDLE.

At daylight Tuesday, a helicopter with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission joined the search efforts.

The Clay County Sheriff's Office has utilized reverse 911 as well as the school system's automated phone message system to get information about Somer to as many households as possible as quickly as possible.

Dozens, perhaps hundreds of neighbors and citizens from as far away as Jacksonville and Middleburg were passing out fliers and showing up at the sheriff's office command post at Orange Park Junior High School at 1500 Gano Ave. to see how they can help.

Sucks that the man living in the home couldn't walk the kids home and then a missing 7 year old and he can't get himself out there to look too. So,if a little girl is in danger of being abducted, why send more little kids out to look and be in danger too?Duh :furious:
