quick question... for anyone in Florida...

are there any crime cameras set up in Florida? How bout cameras at redlights?

I truly hope that LE entered and searched the SO's houses last night and didn't just knock on the door and talked with them. This sheriff appeared to immediately recognize the seriousness and put everything into action very quickly, that is a vey positive sign that he can and will do everything in his power to find that little girl.

As Clay County deputies continue a massive search for missing 7-year-old Somer Renee Thompson this morning, the mother of a girl who was nearly snatched 10 days ago in the same area said she is frightened for Somer.

Sheriff Rick Beseler said it is unclear whether there is a connection between the abduction attempt of the 5-year-old girl and the Somer's disappearance, but he asked that anyone who had any information concerning that incident to contact police.

Prayers for Somer. Hoping they find her soon!

Just read the link above, and I have to ask.....what is a 5 year old doing riding their bike 3 blocks from home? Isn't 5 a little young for that? I don't have children, but that seems crazy to me. Thank goodness someone was paying attention.

Google news has it as a Blue Nissan SUV now.
One article says the previous attempt was a 5 year riding her bike around the neighborhood, the next says the 5 year old is friends with Somer and walked home from school with her and implies the abduction attempt occured during an after school walk home. Gotta love the initial conflicting and morphing reports.

That's what I read too. A blue Nissan SUV:

The mother said a woman in a car, possibly a blue Nissan SUV, drove up to the girl about while she was riding her bike three blocks from her home. There were also two men in the vehicle

I feel to much time has passed for this to be anything but an abduction. I hope I am wrong.

The problem is, if this was an abduction, the person/ people who took her got a pretty strong head start.

I wish the authorities had been called within minutes of the mother realizing she was missing, instead of hours.

This is the crucial message all parents need to know. Don't delay, call for help from the 'big guys' right away. Better safe, than sorry.

Marc Klaas' now famous saying keeps rolling through my mind, "A mile a minute... that is how fast your child can disappear".

There is a female sex offender registered less than a mile from the school.
Registered with an address of a local motel. Does not appear to be the only sex offender registered at this motel address.

So there was a later attempt after the 5 yr old at the school by this suv? wow...........

  • #308
from my understanding, the 5 yr old was riding her bike about 3 blocks from their home when the attempted luring happened. I hope the witness was able to get a plate number but it doesn't seem that way. Maybe she got a description of the people though... She was close enough to witness it to know that the woman was trying her best to get that child in the car.

As far as Somer's mom being at work or whatnot...I'm not sure on that. Somer was last seen at 245. Police was flagged down at approximately 530 after the mom had been looking for nearly 2 hours for Somer. So... Somer's mom had started looking between 3 and 330 for her... the home may not have been empty.

Just talked with my sister who lives in Graham, North Carolina in Alamance county and she said that an Amber Alert was out up there.

I was so hoping to get up and read this morning that Somer had been found and was home safe & sound.
Prayers for this sweet 7 yr old.

All I can say about the bus service is that too many people do NOT vote for school referendums and do not want to pay more taxes for the school systems....this is turn means less $$ for the schools and they have to make budget cuts where they can. Sadly, it seems the cost of transportation is a high one and one that is easily cut by making new boundaries for service. I don't agree with it but it's a sad fact of life.

I applaud the woman who stopped the possible abduction of the 5 year old. It's nice to read when people get involved instead of looking the other way.

As for the RSO in the area...not to put a damper on this but there are most likely much more than 53. The 53 are only those who are registered and actually following the law. How many are living in the area who have not registered? How many are living in the area who have never been caught? Very scary to think about and this is why I never allow my children to be out of my sight or walk home from school or have friends that are not of their own age group etc.

You simply don't know who you can trust...case in point; a local bishop got caught here with 🤬🤬🤬🤬 on his laptop.

You just never really know a person. Protect your kids.

Making sure children get to and from school safely should be top priority, no matter what the cost JMO children should NOT be walking 2 miles to get to school, my kids were picked up in front of my nieghbors house, she was also my babysitter for my children before and after school let out, she had requested her house as a bus stop so she could watch the children, she was a great mother and sitter, this was many years ago

No Cajun, no crime cameras - we've got cameras on the interstates to help with traffic reports, but that's about it.

I don't know about that area of Florida (I'm in Orlando), but here there are cameras at many of the red lights (traffic cams). I doubt they (meaning someone who would have taken her) would use the toll roads, but if they did, there are cameras at the toll booths as well. Crime cameras, I'm not sure about. I think there are some, but they are only in certain areas (downtown, high crime areas, etc).

An Amber Alert has been issued for Somer Thompson, who investigators have been searching for all night in a 1-mile radius around her elementary school.

Sheriff Rick Beseler says this is the longest a child has been missing in Clay County in 22 years. The Clay County Sheriff's Office says it is asking for information about a blue sedan seen in the neighborhood 10 days ago. Authorirties say the occupants, two men and a woman, tried to lure a young girl into the car.

Sheriff Beseler says individuals can also come help with the search.

I thought RSO's could not live near schools? Don't tell me it is like - they can't live within 100 feet of a school or something stupid like that. Less than a mile from an elementary school, really? Scary.

We lived about 2 blocks away from my elementary school and I hated my mom for not letting me walk even in the 6th grade she would drive me to and from. If I had children I would be the same way. I am shocked to hear there is a 2 mile bus limit. I had no idea those kinds of rules were instituted.

When theres any suspicious activity like a attempted stranger abduction around my grandchildrens school, we get a call from the school. I wonder if thats the case in Florida. Does anyone know why the FBI is involved?

Praying they find this little girl safe...
