Speculation on the older brother being at the park and DT flagging a cop down-I am guessing that the boy found Somer's backpack-with no Somer near it-and texted or called his mom. That may be why she flagged a cop down, knowing immediately this wasn't simply a case of Somer 'hding out' somewhere.

See that story has changed also. We heard Hannah Montana backpack with skulls and then Mom said it was a black book bag...????

Somer was in a squabble earlier in school and then sister reprimanded her on the way home. Then that story changed.

Somer hit someone with a backpack and then it changed to someone hit Somer with a backpack.

Mom said Somer always came home and she raised her that way.
Babysitter claims NO that is not true-- Somer had a habit of not coming home- hence the MOM giving friends names and numbers.

Seems everything keeps getting the switcharoo and contradicts the events or what people did/said.

AGAIN... drives me bonkers with so many conflicting reports and we have so little to go on ... kwim...? This case has literally been the most MUM case I have ever followed.

Hi Kewpie, For a case one week old I think it is amazing what is already known compared to the average case. We know the basic when, where, why pretty close, and LE knows allot more than we do about that. All that is really in question IMO is Who. xox

Between this case, Elizabeth Olten's and Morgan Harrington's, it's like pulling teeth to get straight answers!

Oh okay... I don't know the why, guess I missed that.

All I know as factual is the police report and even that has mistakes.
The rest of what we know is from online media reporting, NG, or talking head. Nothing factual that I am aware of.

I don't see how you do it, really.
I cannot follow but one case at a time. I would go bonkers, but hey I have to work in between. lol

"Somer vanished on her mile-long walk home from school in Orange Park. She was squabbling with another child, and her sister told her to stop. The girl got upset, walked ahead of the group and wasn't seen again."

That might be different from the other versions I've heard. I didn't know how many people had seen this version of the sibling disagreement.
I really am leaving now.
***
With all of my heart and tears in my eyes, I want to warn every one of the Thompsons to never, EVER give this version of this story again. It has to end in that family NOW.
I lost a brother when he was 2 1/2 to Leukemia. The family story was always exactly what happened: My brother "Steve" got the mumps, and gave them to "Joey".
"Joey" became sicker and the doctor put him in the hospital for tests. He had Leukemia and died 3 months later.
At 47 years old, "Steve" confessed to me that all of his life he's felt responsible for "Joey's" death-because he gave him the mumps.
I'm crying as I write this. Intellectually he knows he's not what made "Joey" die, but that's what stuck in his 6-year old mind, because that is what we said.
And for the rest of my life, I will carry his guilt because I told the story just that way.
Thanks for reading.

Well, she was thrown away like a pedo would traditionally do, quick-like and without any forethought as to disposal. Let the city dispose of her and let the chips fall where they come to rest. There was no careful hiding of the body so it would never be found like would happen in a familial/friend death.
That would lead me to believe she was grabbed to satisfy someone's immediate sexual fantasy.

The post about the woman and the garbage may have been on a video, but I read it on here, not saw it on video. I can't find the speakers to my computer, so I know it's not video. The armed robbery thing is so weird. Even if they didn't rob the place and were picked up, how dumb is it for 4 robbers to go right where there are a ton of LE? The weirdest thing is that Mom says that she felt there was something wrong this time. Maybe it's just hindsight on her part. But why say Somer never does this and the sitter says she does it all of the time?

I remember reading it as a post, too. It was immediately following the announcement of finding the body at the dump. People were trying to find out the scheduled pick up days for the neighborhood. That's when the neighbor lady made her comments.

NO CAREFUL HIDING? she almost disappeared under hundreds of thousands of tonnes of garbage.

IF the cops never followed the garbage trucks we'd STILL BE LOOKING FOR Somers body and I'm doubtful she would have been found.

It was a small window of opportunity, like a needle in a hay stack.

I think the killer figured she was gone for good. NEVER to be found again.

But not so fast dirt bag....they found her and "THEY ARE COMING FOR YOU"

GOSH THEY BETTER BE!!!!!!!

Hi Tartabull,

We know the WHEN to within about a half hour, a very short window in which she disappeared acc to the TH's on HLN.

We know WHERE she was last seen, by the burned out house acc to a 6 yr old who saw her there, running I think with a frown on her face.

We know the WHY, sexual gratification as seen by statistics in the way she was disposed, bare legs sticking out and dressed on top.

It is not specific and detailed to perfection yet. But one week into the case I think we really have so much more than we normally do.

The WHO could be anyone at this point who seized an opportunity IMO.

The only fact that I am aware of here from LE is that we have a child killer on the loose. NOT one word from LE about a suspect. AND the COD is completely MUM due to the investigation.

LE has not stated RSO or sexual predator-- just child killer.

I think a panic killer of any kind would do the toss in the dumpster, and I also think a predator would think of this ahead of time. I can go either way with it, and have tried to work it at all angles.

I tell you what I've learned here...PERCEPTION is a funny thing.

And until I get some concrete evidence I'm not sure how solid any of what you think you know is.

JMO as always.

ETA: just for the record, it's T-A-R-A-B-U-L-L - you'll just have to take my word for it but I'm NO tart ..... KWIM?

I think the killer put no effort into her disposal, out of sight, out of mind. Let the d*mn city take care of it.

It was so fortuitous it unravelled like it did Tartabull, you are right. I think something like this happened to Haleigh and it was just too late to find her body in the local dump by the time they thought of getting out there!

At least there are forward thinkers on this LE team and I do believe they are coming for him/them. The sooner the better, as the community is on edge with a child killer loose on the streets of Orange Park. xox

I don't disagree with you Tarabull, We are only 7 days into the case. It is an outline that will be filled in as we learn more, maybe with some changes to the headers. lol I think we have a pretty basic idea of what happened, why, where and when it did. How much could any of that change in that short amount of time? It's got to be pretty close anyways.

The WHO will be the big ticket IMO.

Hi Tara

This post screams experience to me. The killer has more than likely did this exact same body dumping, and that is where the children's cases went cold, and they have never been found + killer has never been identified...!! Pretty confident and comfortable with his skills.

IIRC J.Walsh was talking about this and the other unsolved cases.

Goodnight-- today was long and the board was moving pretty fast. The buzz around the board is LE is suppose to have information tomorrow.
Crossing my fingers we will hear something, but if MUM is the word I am fine with that as long as it will bring justice for Somer.

:) sweet dreams

It would be SWEET if they could make an arrest of someone responsible for all these unsolved missing & murdered children cases in one swoop.

I'm an optimistic person but I just don't feel it's going down like that.

Sweet Dreams back....I'm out.
I can't take anymore :banghead:

Some new news on Somer tomorrow .... Let's hope its about the person who did this to Somer.....

http://www.examiner.com/x-23328-Tru...27-Somer-Thompson-new-information-forthcoming

The body of Somer Thompson, 7, was found in the Chesser Island Landfill in south Georgia on 10/21, after Somer went missing from her Orange Park, Florida home on the afternoon of Monday, Oct. 19. Police will announce new case details tomorrow.

Following Somer Thompson's heavily-attended funeral service at Orange Park Baptist Church and after her burial in Jacksonville Memory Gardens today, Clay County (Florida) Sheriff's Office spokesperson Mary Justino issued an advisory relating to forthcoming information on the 7 year old girl's murder investigation.

n the continuing, all-out search for Somer Thompson's killer, Justino relates that Clay County police will announce new developments in the case tomorrow.

In light of Somer's memorial services and burial today, Sheriff Rick Beseler said police were "continuing to work but were keeping a low profile until the services were over."

With their extensive investigation ongoing, according to Mary Justino, "At this hour, work is being done to compile specific information about behavior that the suspect in this case might exhibit."
