Yes - and a lot of them also insist that the child invited the sexual advances!!! In their twisted minds, they convince themselves that what they have done isn't wrong.

He makes it sound like he was peeping in her window or got caught going through her underwear drawer.

1997 was 12 years ago, is daughter between 24-30? It works IMO. Mother was 49 when she died, which would make her between 15-19 when she gave birth to J.

I like how he refers to his crime of sexual battery,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

The people living around you have a right to know I invaded somebody else's privacy

I bet that kind of sugar coating is common with these creeps.

You bet!! He knows all the right things to say - but don't you ask yourself...where is the emotion, the empathy, the compassion!!! Lacking the essential ingredients of being human is the one way you know you are dealing with a psychopath who is capable of destroying a child's life without a second thought. :furious: mho

I think it's a safe assumption, based on the photos used in the video and the obituary that it was DR's daughter J.

And DR took him back and that is when J. moved out.

All JMO.

ORANGE PARK, FL -- Investigators left about 1 a.m. Friday morning, but the abandoned house is still a crime scene with 24-hour police protection.

...

Just after 11:30 p.m. Thursday, crews brought in a digging machine from the State Fire Marshall's Office to dig at various parts of the property and to lift heavy objects, according to officials. This is the area where 7-year-old Somer Thompson was last seen. FDLE agents are working overtime at the home, searching for evidence.

http://www.firstcoastnews.com/news/...he point of the heavy machinery,? Any ideas?

Ya, I'm seeing that now. All those pix of the little girl... sheesh.

Does anyone remember if dumpsters in the immediate vicinity of where Somer was last seen were checked during the search that first night she was reported missing?

You know, I think there is a woman in the Neighborhood that is quite upset that they didn't look into the dumpsters immediately. I also do not know why waited to call 911/LE, it might not have helped but....I think DT flagged down a Deputy 5pm ish?

What would be the point of the heavy machinery,? Any ideas?

It makes me think there was work being done on the house in those few days she went missing, maybe landscaping or trenching? Did they find landscaping debri on her? Signs she had been buried for a time?

Been a lurker for a long time. First time poster.

It is my opinion that they may have DNA from Somer's killer but maybe that DNA doesn't match anyone already in the system. Same thing with fingerprints. If the perp doesn't already have a ten card on file then even if they have prints they are of no use. That is why they are asking the public for help.

IMO LE has to keep pertinent information from becoming public info for the very reason stated previously. Right now only the perp and LE know how she died and it need to stay that way.

Welcome Sonnet!

I completely agree with you about withholding cause of death from public, and understand why they are doing so. You're right - only LE and the killer knows how she died.
I'm hoping they found DNA evidence that was viable, but given the manner in which she was disposed, any DNA on the outside of her body might have been contaminated - even possible DNA underneath fingernails. If she was sexually assaulted, and the rapist didn't use a condom, then they would definitely have viable DNA. It would be a matter of linking that DNA to the killer. If there was physical evidence of recent sexual assault (genital trauma) but no seminal fluids, that would indicate use of condom (premeditated assault) or assault with an object.
Right now, I believe they're looking for a needle in a haystack. They know there's a needle somewhere, they just don't know where.
If the garbage was collected on Tuesday, they at least have a geo-profile, since they know the general area the garbage came from.

Just think: before long we will have plenty of experience posting in cryptic messages.

Bright side of things-- hey? :)

ETA: BSU should come back and help us out with a quick class. LOL

Yeah - what was the point of that?

If it was something so heavy as to need to be lifted by machinery - then how do they suppose the perp lifted it?

If it was to dig for something associated with somer - it would have been freshly disturbed land - pretty obvious in a small yard like that I'd think.

It could have been for a slab of freshly poured concrete I maybe - but you'd think we'd have heard about it by now.

Wonder what they ever really did with the equipment?

Could they have been looking for something associated with past crimes?

That's a very curious thought, isn't it? Buried for awhile? Maybe, and then he had to go back and get her before other people came. It would be interesting to know if there was digging machinery there. Otherwise, what could there be possibly for using heavy equipment?

I don't believe that she was taken at the park. At that time of day, it just seems too out in the open because no one saw anything.

I wonder if she had any friends that lived by the Gano house?

Maybe the heavy machinery was for a cesspool? Just throwing an idea out there. I can't think of anything else.

Now you got me wondering, can you expand on that thought?

I see what you're saying about the park being too out in the open - but think about it - the entire straight line of Gano Ave. is also too out in the open at that time of day.

If she went to the park to play on the playground equipment, it could have been more or less deserted at that time of day because elementary kids were just getting out of school and the jr. high school wasn't out yet. The high school had been out for about an hour and a half, so unless there was sports practice going on at that time, there might not have been anyone around.

I see what you're saying about the park being too out in the open - but think about it - the entire straight line of Gano Ave. is also too out in the open at that time of day for someone to just disappear without a trace, unless she was snatched and pulled into a car before anyone saw anything.

I did see a slide in the back yard of the home at 1080 Gano, there may be other playground stuff back there, like a swing of some sorts....heck, there may even be a tree fort....fwiw
