Not the clip but the quotes.

Somer’s mother continued to speak to the media as well as to the perpetrator of her daughter’s murder,

“This predator, this sick — I don`t know what I`m allowed to say, but this sick man, person, what — he`s not a man, he`s not a person — was waiting. He`d been waiting, and that was the perfect opportunity. There was no one else around. That`s the only thing that I could think. And probably told her, I`m going to take you to your Mommy. Watch out. We`re coming. We`re going to get you.”

Clay County Sheriffs have repeatedly stated that they are withholding specific information regarding Somer’s case as they continue to investigate and identify Somer Thompson’s killer. The investigation immediately focused on an abandoned and vacant house located at 1080 Gano Avenue. On October 23, 2009, the house was searched and processed for evidence.

BBM.

I swear she just vanished into thin air.

I mean - on the one hand - there had to have been no one around at the exact moment she disappeard - else someone would have seen it happen.

On the other hand - there were a lot of people around there that day. It was a fairly busy time in the nieghborhood - with all the coming ang going from school.

If a person was waiting till there was no one around - they surely could have picked a better time.

I feel like DT definitely knows more. She says she doesn't know what she's allowed to say. Does that mean, how much info she can give? or does that mean how degrading she can be in her description of the perp??
Either seems plausible.

What I find most odd is her statement that no one else was around. There were plenty of children walking home from school that day. Parents out meeting them, the crossing guards etc.
Granted no one has come forward (to our knowledge) to say they saw Somer go with anyone. But to say no one else was around?? There were plenty of people around which is why this case is so baffling.
I've noticed in all of DT's interviews she starts a thought and abruptly stops mid sentence and ends with some random statement.
It's always like she wants to say more.

Regarding her book bag, I found some very similar logos. If you google "skull and stars", you come up with alot. Nothing exactly the same, but so similar that I think it may have been a bag with one of these logos on it b/c of the skull, bow, and stars:

Okay one final analysis of this statement. It's odd she states it's the only thing she COULD think. Wouldn't it be the only thing she CAN think? Could implies past thinking.

I am wondering if she did know there was trouble in the neighborhood that day. Maybe even trouble she was associated with/knew in some way. By trouble I mean someone up to no good. I still wonder if this is why she asked SP to be there when the kids got home. It would make sense why she reacted so quickly upon hearing that Somer didn't come home. The 'could' statement may indicate what she was immediately thinking upon hearing Somer didn't arrive home.

Lunch Bag and Book Tote

Just had another thought about why LE wouldn't want the source of lunch bag and book tote to be released....nor the exact picture so they could be easily tracked down and purchased.

If the killer could buy new ones easy enough and place them somewhere in the area, it could easily throw LE completely off the trail. He wouldn't want to do the same thing with the real items because they could contain his DNA that might have accidentally gotten on them during the crime. He could be more careful with the "purchased" items (not getting his DNA on them) or somehow even plant someone else's DNA on them. Maybe I'm giving this creep too much credit...but he hasn't been caught yet, so who knows??

I don't think the book bag and lunch box source is of particular importance to anything. I just thought it odd that they didn't go to the source for photos instead of these drawings.

I don't think that at any time when I was that age that I was the only one in school with my particular lunch box, or backpack. That would have been the easiest place to find a replica of my bag.

There are some possible simple explanations for this, and I can't really think of a complicated one that would be related to the case. I think they just wanted to get an image out and went the lazier route of a drawing rather than hunting down the items themselves.

In any event, it doesn't seem like a mystery to me. If certain characters were popular there were likely Asian knockoffs in places like the dollar stores, street vendors, and Ebay that were similar to the products in the big stores. There wouldn't be the same marketing materials for those items online as the proprietary characters.

Actually, I don't think it's strange at all.

In fact, I don't know why, but I've always thought that was one of the top 5 ways that an abductor gets the kid in their car - by saying that a parent had sent the creep to fetch them.

I've coached my own kids that I would NEVER EVER EVER send a stranger to get them and if someone says, "I'm a friend of your mom's and she's been in an accident and she asked me to come and get you." DON'T BELIEVE THEM!!!
bbm. ITA. I do not find anything strange in things that Somer's mother has said. On the GMA interview that was shown this morning, she (D) even states that LE asked her is Somer was the kind of child that would go in a car with a stranger. Her answer, she stated in the interview, was yes. So perhaps all the questions from LE have D thinking along a similar vein...

nothing has been released yet...

as to why she has a lawyer... (the following is my opinion only): because she is smart to... esp with all the donations coming in, etc... I don't find it hinky at all... again imhoo
I understand a lawyer for advice on financial matters, trusts etc. and i understand the need for a lawyer to watch out for anyone trying to take advantage of the family.
I don't understand the need to have the atty present during the GMA interview.

jmo...but I would think the lazier route would be to just google it and find a similar pic...not go to the extent to have an artist's rendition. I think they're purposely being elusive with details for whatever reason.

bbm, it is not odd when you consider the context of the interview. She was asked by a reporter if she could think what could have happened to Somer. moo.

I'm thinking the same thing and I also think the bag was black with pink trim rather than pink with black trim. I believe the exact logo could be as the one in the artists rendering or it could be the one with the crossbones on the skull. Either way, I don't think they have released the exact description of the tote and lunch pack. I do believe there is a strategy in place.

Did anyone catch the name of the attorney? I don't remember what page the video link is on. If we can pull up his name, we find out what type of law he practices, and that would give an idea of what kind of legal advice he's providing, i.e. financial, criminal, etc.

bbm, perhaps the reason the atty was present for the gma interview was for the reason that I bolded (and it is actually the reason why I personally think an atty was present during a media interview)

Well now that's a thought. I'm getting so frustrated thinking why doesn't somebody just ask where in the heck mom got them??? But I guess that could be a possibility. Thanks for reeling me back in a bit ;)

I am frustrated as well. I want ONE reporter to sit down and ask: was it a Nissan Sedan, or a Nissan SUV, was Somer in a ponytail with a red ribbon, or pigtails with pink ribbons, was there an argument with a friend at school, or on the way home, when Somer left Kyle which direction did she head towards, did she have a hat and scarf that day, or not hat and scarf, did DT have a regular sitter at home to meet the kids after school, or only on this day. All this and so much more. It seems like every piece of information we get, there is a conflicting report to follow. UGH!!
I wish one reporter would get on this case and stay on this case and be persistent!!

I think this is the attorney. Michael R. Freed, according to the GMA interview.

His areas of law practice are as follows:

Areas of Practice

Commercial Litigation; Business Litigation; Class Actions; Arbitration; Eminent Domain; Construction Litigation; Real Estate Litigation; Banking Law; Labor and Employment; Sports Law; Entertainment Law

Continuing my thoughts about the "I'm taking you to your mommy" comment...

This makes me think that DT might think that the perp knows Somer - and that the perp was in a car.

Someone in a home or even on foot would probably not say that.

This comment needs a vehicle to be enacted.

Also - the perp would have to be someone who Somer thought could actually bring her to her mom (at work) - not some everyday stranger I don't think. Maybe a stranger in a uniform of some type - like LE or even someone wearing scrubs if DT works in that environment.

I wonder if anyone has ever really taken her to see her Mom while she was at work?

I can't really find the words express just why I find the comment strange - frustrating.

I don't necessarily find it to be sinister on DT's part - just odd. Maybe she knows something, because LE told her something, that would make her think this?

I bet she suspects her good friend SP or a neighbor. It's just a small list. They should have already had an arrest. SP, PC, neighbor friend (kid or adult biker), grandfather, or friend's parent or someone working at school. That's about it.

OK nevermind, it doesn't help when reporters ask questions in a passive tense. Grrrr, they need to ask direct questions in the present tense.

Thompson is white, 3 feet 5 inches tall and weighs 65 pounds. She has brown hair that was in a pony tail and was wearing a cranberry colored jumpsuit with pink stripes and a black T-shirt underneath. Her backpack is black with pink and white skulls and crossbones.

I'm thinking the backpack may have looked more like this
backpack.jpg

I'm thinking maybe LE wanted to put drastically inaccurate description of er backpack and lunch tote out so the perp would gain a little confidence...maybe get him to thinking LE doesn't have a clue what they are looking for...

Three weeks ago Monday the 7-year-old was walking home from school with her older sister Abby and twin brother Samuel. Her mother was at work. And as usual, the children were to walk home together. Friends' parents would keep an eye on them.

snipped from the GMA article.

Just wondered what parents were keeping an eye on the kids. It doesn't seem that on the walk home there were any parents.
