May I please ask Does some one know for sure the girls they were talking about and who they are?do they think this predator only killed in Jacksonville florida?

Also said the FBI said the perp has done this before and will probably do it again.

Leads have gone nowhere - only leading to dead ends. Only received a few tips from the AMW show.

50 LE on case.

The bookbag is a bookbag - it isn't a backpack. Something you would carry in your hand or maybe on the shoulder but not across the back. Looked like a pink vinyl with white stencils on the bottom & right corner

Light pink lunch box with a cartoonish pig's face on top. Kind of oval in design.

The FBI said he's done this and will probably do it again, but to me, this doesn't mean he is a RSO. They may have made this statement due to the diligence they believe he took or something along those lines.
Or as someone else suggested there could have been some type of signature used and it matches other unsolved cases. Again it would mean this is not a RSO.
Or it could match the signature of someone who is caught and they would be a RSO.

ETA: Evidently the "FBI" making this statement is a retired guy, not someone working the case, so it is all just speculation which throws out any of the above theories of mine.

We have to remember this FBI that was on The Today show was a retired guy that does shows.

He is not the one working on Somer's case so we can't take what he says as FACT... or I won't ..

that is how things get twisted.. I feel it was his opinion from what others have said.. jmo

Ugh, I was just quoting from someone giving a recap. Didn't see the show.
I'll put a disclaimer in my post.
thanks.

Shadowzar, correct me if I'm wrong, but Orange Park is a small town & only has a maximum of 6 police cars. Clay County includes Green Cove Springs which is where the Clay County Sheriff, Besler is along with his deputies, which are different than the ones assigned to Orange Park...

OMG - after everything she has been through - and is STILL going through!!!

Has anyone else noticed how thin mom is in recent videos/pics? Her double chin is gone and she's beginning to look gaunt.

She looks as if she hasn't been eating (I know I wouldn't be able to!) and as if she's lost weight. She's stated that she's not able to sleep.

We've all made mistakes as parents. We've all made mistakes as human beings (those that don't even have children!).

It makes me sad and angry that people could send her hate mail and blame her for what happened.

IDK what's up with some people. Diena is already blaming herself for what happened. Until there is evidence implicating her directly in the murder of her daughter, the least folks could do is show a little compassion!

I'll admit, some of her choices/decisions and things she has said/done, have made me sit up and say "Huh?!" But I don't know her. And I would never want to walk half a block in her shoes, let alone a mile.

People who send hate mail to a grieving mother are heartless.

We're all entitled to our opinions. We're not necessarily entitled to express them.

She's not winning any awards for parenting from me. That said, I think its despicable to send her hate mail. And unproductive. That person could have spent that time trying to find Somer's killer, volunteering somewhere, etc. How on earth does it help to kick someone when they're already down? The time to talk to her about her parenting and supervision would have been BEFORE this tragedy - why didn't this industrious person who has so much time to send hate mail have a friendly conversation with her THEN. At this point, I think DT has learned that lesson in the most horrible and cruel way imaginable. She doesn't need people to write personal letters to her about it. IMO

I can't really find records of missing FL children or unsolved homicides of FL children from the late 90's on in which there hasn't already been an arrest. Maybe someone has additional records.

The FBI making the statement was a retired FBI guy?? Who made the comment that leads have gone nowhere? Who was qualified on that show to make that statement.
Sorry I missed the show.
Just trying to figure out if the leads comment is speculation or fact.

Do we really have any facts in this case? I am starting to wonder if Somer really did exist. I am being extremely sarcastic here (pls don't throw things at me). The sheriff is just not good at putting any reliable facts out.

Except there was a little girl named Somer who they found murdered on 10/21. THIS statement is the only thing I take as fact anymore. The rest has been muddied.

Orange Park is just a county (not town)out of Jacksonville. Orange Park has more than 6 police cars too big of a county for just 6.

Greencove Springs county is Clay which is also Orange Parks County. GCS has their own police department too. It is a smaller county than Orange Park.

I never thought of that. Those listed on the MPR seem to all be county and associated with Beseler but I don't know for sure, esp. about A. Coan, who DT flagged down.

The city has had its own police force since the 1940s. The Green Cove Springs Police Department currently consists of 19 sworn full time officers, 6 part time officers, 7 dispatchers, a secretary and 2 crossing guards. The police department has officers assigned to joint task forces, full time, such as the DEA and the Clay County Drug Task force. Areas outside the city limits are patrolled by the Clay County Sheriff's Office.
The Town of Orange Park police department was established in 1877. As of 2009 it consists of 22 sworn police officers, 7 dispatchers, and support personel.

The experts say that only about 5 - 10% of all sex offenders are registered or have been arrested/convicted for sex crimes. Think about this for a second. It's one of the main reasons that while I'm happy that we have the SO registry, I think parents cannot depend on it to identify all the SO's around them.

When social services gets a report of sexual abuse of a child by either someone living in the household, a relative of the child, or someone the parents allow to have regular access to the child, CPS may make a finding that sexual abuse occurred (or not, dependent upon what shakes out during the investigation). LE gets a copy of every report when it initially goes to social services. But, because many of the victims are very young, and because criminal court has a higher burden of proof, many of these cases are never prosecuted even when they are found valid by social services. And except in cases with the most serious allegations, I don't know that LE investigates at all until and unless social services finds something.

In valid cases, that offender will frequently be separated from that family (because if they aren't, social services will pick up the child) and will move in elsewhere, likely with access to other children (especially as time goes by). We're talking about mother's bf, husband, male relatives, male friends, and older children who are siblings or relatives of the victim. A lot of times though, this is on the honor system, so it turns out perps still have access to these kids in a number of cases. Just FYI, Women are more likely to offend sexually WITH a male perp OR in a romeo type situation with the woman being the romeo. In practice, you honestly don't see female offenders nearly as often as male offenders.

Anyway, so now you have these perps, mostly male, juvenile and adult, who have sexual abuse hx (as perps) with social services, but none with law enforcement - except in the minority of the cases that LE does prosecute. (And if they're a juvenile at the time of the crime, I don't know that they go on the SO registry even if LE does convict them). So these guys can meet a new girlfriend, who has kids, and they are not on the SO registry. Social Services records are confidential. So the new gf may never even know he has a problem until he does it to her kids. This happens a lot.

I would love to get permission to do longitudinal studies on it in fact - you know, I would love to study the data going back and see how many people against whom valid cases of sexual abuse are found with social services go on to eventually have a criminal SO history, what's the average time before the criminal conviction, and what percentage of the people already on the SO registry have social services sxab history. (Cuz y'all know I'm all about the research)

Anyway, in a nutshell, this could easily be an SO who is not an RSO. Easily. In fact, the percentages favor it. So this is a good point by sharethelight.

The Gerald Schaefer who is a POI in this Lowe case was once a police deputy and has now been linked to 20 or more deaths of girls and women ages 9-25 in a 3 year span 69-72.
clearly this guy didn't have a specific age except 9-25 but that covers a lot of ground. makes me rethink who we are looking for. . .

I didn't know the FBI on the show was retired and not working on Somer's case. That does make me take the info with a grain of salt..

I did however come across this though...

In this article John Walsh states "The Sheriff and I both feel it is a predator who has probably done it before."

Now I have no idea how much actual info the Sheriff would share with John Walsh but he seems to speaking for him as well with these words..

The person who killed 7-year-old Somer Thompson may have preyed on children before, making the search for the second-grader's slayer that much more urgent, police said.

Clay County authorities said they are running frustratingly low on credible leads despite receiving more than 1,000 tips about Somer's kidnapping and murder. But "America's Most Wanted" host John Walsh said county Sheriff Rick Beseler is "looking very hard at certain people.

"The sheriff and I both feel that it's a predator who has probably done it before,"
Walsh, who has been following Somer's case since she disappeared last week, told "Good Morning America" today.

He pointed to a string of four child disappearances in the Jacksonville area about 20 years ago that have never been solved.

"I would hate to think this is a serial child killer who has raised it's ugly head," Walsh said, noting that it's not unusual for such a predator to come out of "retirement."
