Graham, NC -- The family of a little girl found murdered in a Georgia landfill plans on holding a community awareness event in Alamance County.

The 7-year-old Somer Thompson vanished during her walk home from school last month. Detectives found her body at a landfill in Georgia where the Florida neighborhood's trash is delivered.

Somer's father, Sam, lives in Alamance County, NC.

He is hosting a memorial service at Riverside Baptist Church on Saturday 14 at 3:00 pm.

The service is open to the public, but the family requests anyone attending wear purple, Somer's favorite color.

If anyone finds a link for condolences for Somer's Dad Sam and their family and friends please post it here, as it appears he wasn't able to get a copy of the condolences posted at Somers funeral.

Yes, but no insignia on the front. The shirt also seemed thin, not like a thicker quality workshirt, pockets were a little bigger also.

Ok, I have a profile - not putting any links to photos or initials or anything at the moment because this is not an RSO.

21 yr old white male. Bright. Articulate. Blonde/Blue, sturdy build. Very interested in the case, vocal about the case, active in the searches, active in getting people to attend the memorial, encouraging them to wear purple etc. I think he's met the family briefly in terms of being at vigils, the memorial, etc. Active in the planning and set up of the new M.A.P. program. No kids of his own. Big gamer in terms of online games.

Works with ed kids at a hospital. Lives about two miles away. History of being a witness for LE and media in regard to a dramatic/traumatic accident (in which he was not involved). But... recently came out as gay - which doesn't seem to fit. Even though he's 21, he has posted as being interested in gay teen groups. idk This was a prepubescent girl.

Makes me upset as well nursebeeme...I don't understand that kind of selfishness. I really feel for him and his family. I am praying he gets a new lawyer asap in order that he can see and finally hug his children.

They need him as much as he needs them...it's so sad

I looked at Briarwood on google maps and saw a police car in one of the driveways. Left hand side of the road if you are coming from Debarry.

Responding to dannyodie's post - exactly! That's where I was heading with my very 1st post, citing other cases where LE has been the guilty party - the landfill idea was brilliant and any child - or anyone for that matter - may respond to someone in uniform or just a flash of a badge. - Firemen have started fires and then been the 'hero' - I never like to think of LE or public service in a bad light because my husband has been in Federal law enforcement for over 30 yrs - but even he says 'there are bad cops and evil people' everywhere - he's taught our family to always be aware of our surroundings because he knows that evil and sick people exist. Also - I was asked - by MommaD I think - about another post on why a "contractor" would not advertise his business etc - Trino had several good answers, and I added perhaps they were an illegal - don't get me started on that - there is so much going on if you miss 1 post or thread - yikes!

I didn't get that impression. For one thing, he's defensive when people criticize DT. He lives with two women who have the same different last name. Not sure if this is a half-sister and a mom, or roomies who are sisters, or what.

Oh. Apparently looking for love. Not able to find a partner. He's stated that on multiple sites. Has worked with ED kids at more than one facility.
