Apparently there is bad blood between the families for whatever reason. The other side apparently is pointing fingers at Mom for not caring for the kids after school. I believe on this thread there was a quote from Diena there was an adult there after school everyday. But why wasn't DAD stepping up to the plate with child support??? Yeah, I know he broke his leg...yadayada. There are always 3 sides to every story as we all know. Doesn't seem to be helping us get to who murdered Somer?

I agree... there are three sides... but yr info isnt rite either, he is disabled... he does not have a broke leg.... but I wouldnt give either parent of the year award.. IMO

:blowkiss: Thanks to you for bringing up what's important - who murdered beautiful Somer!!!

Seems to me that tragedy and trauma can bring out the very best or WORST in people.

Dad is a vet and I imagine he isn't getting any money. Contrary to what people may think, vets have a hard time getting money that should be rightfully their's.

When I see children that are unsupervised , playing alone, riding bikes alone, I cringe. I imagine that if it is true that the DT's children were on their own, a lot of people would speculate that something might happen.

If she had a lot of boyfriends, then it is a known fact that some men are looking specifically for women with children, especially female children. So, ST probably would worry about that.

It is extremely difficult for men to get custody. I testified for my male neighbor to get custody of his children. There were even reports of the 12 year old step brother doing inappropriate sex things to the younger half sister.

We filed several reports with the police as well as CPS. Finally, the father just got custody of the children-like 13 years later.

It apparently didn't even matter that the mother was a meth addict.

I am not implying anything about DT and her parenting or anything. I am just talking about situations in general which may or may not fit this particular situation.

Is his disability related to his military service?

I remember hearing that ST said (and correct me if I'm wrong), that (in essence) he knew "this would happen" when he was first interviewed after Somer went missing. He wanted to bring the children all back to NC.

Please tell me -- did Somer really call her father and ask him to come and get her a few months before?

If we saw the same interview it was Prime News...I just remember him saying he wanted to bring the children back to NC "where they will be safe". I remember distinctly thinking, he can't support them now...how will he support them then?

Is this child a girl or a boy?

Just getting confused.

Did ya'll see the blurb on AMW? Says the book bag & lunch box are still missing & they're looking for that one clue to bring this killer to justice.....

I remember him saying in an interview he has a broken leg & had an operation to put pins to keep in place while healing so to speak. This sounded like a temporary disability situation, not a lifelong disability. What am I missing here?

I personally feel very strongly and blame the school district. These children should not have to be walking home.Especially elementary children. They are too defenseless and I do blame the school.I know people can abduct your kids any where. In around 1974 sometime some one tried to abduct me right in front of my house.I walked my children for many years to and from the school and bus stop. But not everyone one can do this. But we can try and make it safer for our children by having them not have to walk home from school.

It is a girl

Yes, thank you! Just was getting mixed messages. LOL

IMO there are a thousand places the bookbag and lunchbox could have been dumped.

I cannot see the perp being dumb enough to keep them. But I have seen some dumb criminals.

It seems kind of strange that the perp wouldn't dump her lunch box and backpack with her body, just to get rid of the evidence. It could have been left somewhere where some other child picked it up or something, but surely they would have returned it. I wonder about a treehouse or some secret fort...she could have had her own secret place. I remember having a raked out area in some woods, and it was my "house." It had rooms and a hall and a kitchen. And even when we went to the football game, my son and his friend found a little cubby area in front of the stands, behind some hedges that grew along the front of the stands...and you could not see them at all...you could hear them giggling though. I mean, she could have hidden in some tall hedges close to a house, a crawl space of some kind... Sadnpod, I noticed there were old homes along the way. What about old hedges that aren't being kept up very well? You know, they make great hiding places. They wouldn't be as obvious as the woods.

Or have a responsible adult walk the children home. You know, like you do a carpool. You take turns, so to speak, so that your turn may only come up every two months or so. You take the week every two months. You get up a little bit early, get the kids together, and drive or walk them. In the afternoon, the same thing. You have your group you keep up with. Or designate people for that...the person is responsible for making sure they have all the children before they leave the campus. They make sure they walk each child to their home and see that they enter their home safely. I know there are a lot of latchkey children around. I have learned that most states don't have laws on how old a child has to be to be left home alone. I always thought it was 12 or 13, but when I started looking it up, there were just a few states that had a minimum age. The rest of the states left it to the discretion of the parents.

Sadnpod -

My heart aches for ST's mother. Grandparents have no rights. If it means anything, please tell her that she is not alone. I feel that Somer is trying to speak to her. Ask her to listen, and to look.

ETA: I don't see the killer keeping these items either -

The killer could have dumped the book bag & lunch box in any dumpster anywhere - in a dumpster located in Jacksonville possibly. If that's the case, it will never be found. And just as he discarded this precious child, I'm sure he thought she would never be found. Possibly he didn't dump the book bag & lunch box with her body because he was in a hurry to dispose of her body & could put the other items in his trunk for disposal later on.... across town.

Who is to say that Somer herself didn't leave her bag and lunchbox somewhere, thinking she'd grab it on the way back from her exploring or wandering.

I had wondered at one time whether LE had them, had found them somewhere and were saying they didn't have them, hoping the perp would go to that area to find them and dispose of them. And then BAM! they'd nab him.

I know. I watch too much CSI.

We hid in bushes as children as well. We thought we were hidden, but perhaps not.

Somer seems to have come home late several times. The babysitter apparently found her had friend's houses.

But I can see her hiding from her sibs if she was mad at them. That's what children seem to do.

It is possible one reason that LE thinks it is a serial killer is because the lunchbox and book bag weren't found with her. I think these kinds of criminals often keep souvenirs.

I think LE has lots of info.

They know what dumpster she was put into because of the surrounding garbage.

They must have some kind of DNA info.

They must have info of where she went after she was seen at the burned house.

They have info of who her regular babysitters were.

They have info of PC's, DT's, as well as SP's movements and phone calls.

They have info on what lots of people were up to that day and where they were.

They have info on her COD.

We don't have any info, basically.

I think they know who did this because of them not asking the public for hardly any info at all. I think that they are just waiting for all of the evidence to come in.
