Something interesting about SP's ex-wife is that she was once married to someone with a last name that the Haleigh case followers will recognize - and may have lived in Glen St. Mary at one time.

Ooooh ooooh Give us a hint, please!!!! TIA

Maybe it was pretty obviously a misunderstanding. If I remember right the woman who reported it as an attempted kidnapping said she was suspicious mainly because of the way the car was parked in the driveway. I don't think she ever saw anybody actually try to snatch the child but please correct me if I'm wrong.

Here is a link that explains pretty much everything about the abduction attempt:
http://jacksonville.com/news/metro/...t_of_sight_after_orange_park_abduction_attemp

Shannon Pollitt deserves kudos for getting involved, when so many others would have just blown it off. Thank God she was there. Those people need to be charged for trying to kidnap Kaylee (notice the name! I'm sure CA will find this to be more than a coinkidink)

Hi there. In a report I saw on TV the woman who went to help the child stated that the young girl was saying(screaming) no, repeatedly, and when she asked the child if she knew who was in the car the little one answered no. That sounds like an attempted abduction to me. MO

I don't know where I saw it but someone said that there are three crossing guards along the way and the first one saw Somer but she never made it to the second one which tells me that more than likely she never made it home and was grabbed before the second crossing guard. They said there are some woods between the two. I have no idea if that information is accurate since so much seems to be wrong.

Also, there may be a lot of reasons why LE isn't interested in the couple in the blue car, they might be related to the five year old in some way, etc. or some odd circumstance where they were only interested in that particular child. They have to have a good reason for feeling they are not involved since LE tend to be suspicious by nature.

Before the landfill, it seems like the searchers have already completed a tremendous amount of work:

http://www.examiner.com/x-26504-Atl...ssing-7-year-old-Florida-child-Somer-Thompson

Every means has been utilized in seeking the whereabouts of this child – helicopters, horses, neighborhood search of outbuildings, crawl spaces under houses, and wooded areas. However, these efforts have not turned up any clues. Dive teams have cleared the retention ponds nearby.
Fifty-seven of eighty-seven registered sex offenders have been interviewed and the others will be approached today, Wednesday, October 21, 2009.

Search Teams Scour Florida For Signs Of Somer
<snipped>
Somer left school at 2:50 p.m. that Monday, and was walking home from school with her twin brother, her 10-year-old sister, and some friends when she ran ahead of the group, toward her home.

Somer's siblings arrived home safely at about 3:05 p.m. without her and no one has seen her since.

Their mother's friend, Sean Patton, was at the house and asked the children where Somer was and they said she walked off.

Sean and the kids searched for Somer for an hour. when Somer's mother called, Sean told her Somer had not made it home.

She left work immediately and stopped at the Sheriff's Office on the way home to report her daughter missing.

The search included canine units, mounted police, dive teams and helicopters with heat-sensing technology.

Several police agencies, the FBI and local volunteers began searching the wooded areas in near where Somer was last seen.

Authorities have interviewed 57 registered sex offenders living in a three-mile radius of where the girl disappeared and plan to interview an additional 37 offenders in an expanded 5-mile radius.

Bolded in Red by me. This is unbelievable! 57 SO's living within 3 miles of where she disappeared and an add'l 37 in an expanded 5 mile radius. These numbers are flooring me! Why is this happening? You think it has much to do with today's acceptance and emphasis on sexual enhancement products, videotapes, adult entertainment, etc.? How can this many people be on the books as RSO's in our communities? Why aren't there studies going on about this? Have the numbers increased in the last 5 to 10 years?

Why aren't our State and Federal officials doing more to protect our children? The State of Florida "says" it is pro-"no child left behind" and say they are concentrating on giving the kids a quality education, even though they don't have any money to invest in the schools or in what it takes to protect our kids. They do not do enough to protect them! Not when there are 94 SO's in a 8 mile radius of where this child disappeared! How ridiculous! They've got kids walking more than a mile to and from school at 7 years old because they don't have a bus available? Why is that? No money. It's all about the money. Who's at fault? Lots of people. The taxpayers want quality education but they don't want to pay for it. They want our kids to be safe but not at their expense. They want SO's monitored so that they can know where they reside at any given time but that's all they want to know. No one keeps track of them, where they go, what they do until they've re-offended and then they take account of where and what they've been participating in. When it's too late........again. I am so fed up with hearing these stories, I'm ready to retire from my regular job and take up the cause because if someone doesn't do it soon, the children are going to continue to lose this fight. We need to fight for them.

This is unbelievable! God, please watch over Somer and bring her home...

  • #331
Is this an expected turn of events? How far is this land fill from where Somer was kidnapped? Anyone know?

According to google maps, it's 161 miles, and about 3 hours away. I wonder what they learned that made them go there? I've been corrected, its about 70 miles.

  • #332
Hmm. Mom said Somer mostly played inside. The former babysitter's experience with Somer is different:

http://www.examiner.com/x-26504-Atl...ssing-7-year-old-Florida-child-Somer-Thompson

Megan Reese, 17, who has babysat Somer in the past said that she was head strong and contradicted the mother by saying that it was not anything new for Somer to run ahead of her siblings on the way home from school and that she would take anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour to make her way home; and that her mother had a list of phones numbers for her friends and would start calling the friends if she took too long to get home. The baby sitter said she never knew where Somer ran to, but she loved tree houses and swimming pools. Many times Somer would get upset as she felt the other kids picked on her and she would run away.

I googled Orange Park Florida to Folkston Georgia and got 77 miles.....so that is pretty darn far either way right? What took them there I wonder?

The search for Somer Thompson is now involving a landfill in Georgia.

An official with Waste Management has confirmed to First Coast News that officials, including those from the Clay County Sheriff's Office, are searching through the Chesser Island Landfill near Folkston, and they are looking for a body.

It is not confirmed now what body they are looking for, but Clay County does have investigators on the scene.

UPDATED: 11:12 am EDT October 21, 2009

The mother of Somer Thompson went on all three national network morning news shows with a tearful appeal for the child's return.

"Somer, you're not in trouble. If you're scared, just come home," Diena Thompson said on Wednesday. "And if somebody has her, please, please bring her back to us. She belongs with her family."

"She's got a twin and he's lost without her," Thompson said in a later news conference.

Clay County Sheriff Rick Beseler said investigators are baffled.

Investigators Baffled By Missing 7-Year-Old
Posted: 9:27 am EDT October 21, 2009

Clay County Sheriff Rick Beseler said investigators are baffled. "Somer disappeared off the face of the earth. We just don't have a clue right now where she is," Beseler said.

He said officers have expanded the initial search area and interviewed about 75 known sex offenders in a five-square-mile radius. Teams of volunteers are walking arm-to-arm through the woods, and deputies are using helicopters and search dogs.

Investigators have said they suspect foul play. "The likelihood she has been taken by someone is high," the sheriff said.

"Please, please just let her come home to me. Drop her off somewhere. Just put her on a corner and let her come home," she added.

Where is Somer Thompson? Police 'Desperately' Seek Tips in 7-Year-Old's Disappearance
Mom Diena Thompson: 'She's One of the Most Loving Little Girls in the Whole Wide World'

"This case is very troubling in that we just don't have a lot of information," Beseler said, asking the public for tips. "We really believe that ... Somer has been removed from the area."

Police had already been investigating a separate child abduction attempt two weeks ago in which the potential abductor tried to lure a girl into a car, one block away from the spot where Somer was last seen.

Beseler said today that authorities had located both the car and the individual and are "pretty confident" the cases are not connected.

Mother pleads for return of Florida girl, 7
Somer Thompson disappeared on way home from school on Monday

The grief-stricken mother of a missing 7-year-old Florida girl delivered an impassioned plea Wednesday both to Somer Thompson and to whomever knows where she is to bring her home.

Joining Thompson was Clay County Sheriff Rick Beseler, who is coordinating a massive search for Somer that includes deputies, civilians and volunteers from a nearby military base on foot, on horseback and in helicopter. Dogs and divers have also been employed. His department has issued an Amber Alert and is working under the assumption that foul play is involved.

"Bring her back to us. She belongs with her family," Orange Park, Fla., mother Diena Thompson said on TODAY, where she appeared live with Clay County Sheriff Rick Beseler.

I googled Orange Park Florida to Folkston Georgia and got 77 miles.....so that is pretty darn far either way right? What took them there I wonder?
SS My bad. I think I put in Orange City the first time, this time using Orange Park, I got 55 miles! I should probably go back to bed. Either way, not enough time for anyone in the house to have the opportunity to go that far and come back with the timeline we have. I hope this isn't one of those farfetched tips we have heard of in other cases. But maybe they have info on this landfill tip that made them exonerate the pple in the Nissan?

  • #339
Oh I hope this isn't Somer they are looking for - sounds like it is though. Poor baby.

This news station is usually late or incorrect on some of their reporting.

They are searching the landfield just as a precaution not from a tip. That is the landfield Orange Parks garbage goes to.

  • #340
or maybe LE is playing "one against the other(s)" of those people questioned in the former attempted kidnapping and someone has said something about a dumpster.

Maybe this dumpster was somewhere else...makes sense.
