I have already been down this road when my dauther was 3 and now she is 28 and doing fine . . I sent her to Martial Art, counseling etc etc.. But I want to share this story.

When she was in 5th grade day care her friend told her "my moms boyfriend came in my room last night". She told my daughter he didnt do anything but she was scared. Good thing my daughter knew to tell me right away and we called child protective services. They came out to day care and interview her. The guy was arrest that day. Moral of the story is to be open with your children and dont leave the subject taboo.

What makes you think that the glove fits Somer. All we really know about Somer are rumors other than DT saying she didn't know a stranger. When my niece was little she was friendley like that but I don't think she would have went with a stranger, just a friendly little kid...

Lack of parental involvement...Somer fits.
Lack of supervision...Somer fits.
Parents that bring home boyfriends/girlfriends...Somer fits.
Communities that do not offer support, such as mandatory buses...Somer fits.

None of this meant to attack DT, as I still don't see her as a guilty party, especially since what she did as far her boyfriend and letting Somer walk, are things that millions of parents do every day.

I think she has been attatacked alot on these forums and local forums in the local newspapers. I feel sorry for her and I don't believe in kicking someone when they are down. I will reserve judgement until I here something one way or the other from LE not just vicious rumors on message boards from people that don't even know her. Sorry for ranting not directed at anyone in particular.....

The risk factors go further than those listed above for Somer. She may have been a target by someone in the neighborhood. A neighbor, a neighbor's friend, a worker in the neighborhood, a friend of the family, an acquaintance of the family.

She may have been visiting her "friend" some of those times she was not coming home. The sitter said that she had no idea where Somer had been. This might have been a time that it didn't work out as well as other times for some reason.

I dont smoke, drink, do drugs and I am very protective mother.These prevs are out there just waiting for the opportunity to strike. But the risk factors are making it easier for them

I agree human, it's a very long list, I was just pointing out the most basic avoidable factors that seem to apply in Somer's situation.

And I hope I did get it across that I wasn't blaming DT, as a lot of trusting people don't realize that there are anything wrong with these behaviors. And some should fall on the community at large, too. If the schools had realized the danger and responded to it ahead of time, we wouldn't be here for Somer. We would be blissfully unaware of her existence.

There are a million different people and entities that I could lay blame on, all the way down the line, but the real issue lies with the person/people responsible for perpetrating the crimes.

Hi Gang: Back @ my friends place who just moved , no puter. So...I am at an Internet Cafe once again. This is crazy but I was watching TV and all of a sudden I thought OMG what about a crossing guard????? This is a person that would see Somer everyday, know her patter and know when the refuse was picked up , ie: a local. The guard did not recall seeing Somer @ Debarry that day...Maybe I am crazy but.....what do you think???? TIA Are there Male Crossing Guards in this area , hello any locals out there???? In my town they tend to be Mom's or G Mom's just making some extra $$$ .

I brought up crossing guards a thread or so ago, but very briefly. I had asked where they park, and someone said on the street, perhaps a cross street, near the corner where they work. Yes, there is a male. On this thread someone linked a video where they talk about the woman at the first crossing, and the woman at the last crossing, but they showed the man at the 2nd crossing. Hmmmmm. Maybe he's a perfect saint. I wish I knew his name or something about him.

I don't want to offend anyone, but if Somer were giving out hugs to someone who couldn't handle it, ...... Yikes. KWIM? I know her hugs were innocent, but some people are not ...... as we all know. I just hope her sweet little ways did not attract a creep to her. A child needs to be able to be a child without worrying if they are going to stir the evil in someone's heart. YUCK!!!

Sadly, I agree. Predators study their prey. Seems a perp can spot a vulnerable child a mile off. I think the vulnerability in Somer was the desire to love and to be loved back.

Every human strength comes with weaknesses as well. Go getters can be overbearing, artists can be moody, sweet loving folks can dwell in self pity. There's more, and I'm just paraphrasing (badly), but I hope I'm getting my point across.

I was alot like Somer as a child. Oh my gosh!!!!! I hear something new about her from those that knew her and I think, yep, I was like that, too. It's like you just love everyone and you want to hug the entire world and make everyone well and happy. But, you can be really sad and confused when other people don't treat you that same way. Sometimes the confusion can cause the usually outgoing child to seek solitude instead.

Sorry, didn't mean to go on and on. The little girl I was - soooooo identifies with this little girl.

It seems to me that Somer fit different types of risk factors. She was alone and secluded from her group or within view of others the day she went missing and reported on other occasions. So many grown women and unsupervised children have been blitz attacked and thrown into a vehicle in broad daylight. Plus, Somer was overly friendly with people she might have been familiar with but were still strangers as she was said to have wandered off alone, with a group, or out looking for playmates. Then, her mother says she would have gotten into a vehicle. I don't know that she meant it, but it could be taken that Somer would talk to a total stranger that approached her. That's three different risk factors and not even counting any things with the home life or associates that could put her at risk. I don't know enough about that to really say.

There are quite a few posters who have experience with perps, so I thought I'd share my experience.

When I was 11 or 12, there was a neighborhood store my friends and I frequented. When I went to the store alone, the male owner would always give me back my change. He started small - coins, then went to bills. The last time I visited he gave me a $20 bill, which was big money back then. Of course, my mother found out, since I had no way of earning that much money.

My parents went to the store, but, of course, the man denied everything. I was never allowed to go into the store alone or even with friends. The "kicker" to this was that the man had three daughters!

No. My parents did not report the man. This was before there was an emphasis upon child molestation. Then, too, since the man did nothing to me, there was no proof he was a molester. However, my parents knew...

I have read that Debarry is a really busy street. I don't know as I have never been there. But if it's busy, I can't see a car being able to stop and lure her in. Is there parking on Debarry? There is not on Gano. You'd have to pull over and stop. Definitely a noticeable act. Would be remembered by someone, I'm sure.

If she made it further, then the streets might not be so busy, but a chance. But I'm sure these perps take chances.

Honestly, kids fight all of the time about stupid stuff that has no meaning.

IF and that's a BIG if in my eyes, the comment by Kyle at the Gano house would lead me to believe that Somer was no longer that crabby.

I agree, Noway, that kids do say things they hear others say. But she was in first grade. She would have to have the abstract reasoning to think to herself, "Someone is working on a house. A thing that people say in this particular situation is, ' You're doing a good job.'"

Would she? She might repeat it if someone had commented on it. Then she might repeat it. I just don't believe a first grader would think that. But maybe she is a very bright child. How would I know?

I posted about this area many many threads ago.. I thought tank area was spooky but when I turned around and went down that street those picnic tables do not even look inviting.. down right spooky area...

I do not like that whole area from the school and park.. all of it gives me creeps.. that house across from the tanks is spooky too.. sits at gano and solomon...

Well, I was just thinking - in reference to OBVIOUS signs of a homicide on a body that had been tossed around in a trash truck and then in a dump - a ligature would be obvious because it most likely would still be there when they found her --

Also, maybe if someone tried to burn her body after she was killed.

I didn't really want to comment on this topic but I feel I have too.. I too feel that something terrible happened to Little Somer.. I know one doctor I heard last month say it takes 48 hrs for decomp to start. and it starts from the inside first .. the organs. .. so if Somer was not shown it had to be horrific like the LE said then someone had to of done this to Somer... I just don't see decomp happening so soon.

I have seen a lot of morgue photos and people who have laid a week or so in the hot western states still look ok to have open casket ....

So either LE just didn't want the perp to see the victim in casket or she was badly beaten etc to advise closed casket...

I could see LE like a punishment to the perp by a closed casket . some are really sick and would love to have seen her like that.

But I could also hope LE would of let parents see her and ask to keep quiet about it if Little Somer was fine to look at.. why hold that from them??

Everyone most of times get to see there loved ones a last time..

So I am going with the sicko hurt Somer to badly for her to be seen.. or the trucks did damage and that should of been told and should of been seen if the trucks did the damage.. not to blame a person.. well the sicko did put her in the trash tho.. but ykwIm... right??

The sad and scary part is some of these pervs are people we would have never thought was bad.They possibly played,talked to our children a few times.Maddie Clifton played with the little boy who killed her.Sandra Cantu went to this sunday school teacher's house and played with her child.Someone I would have never thought of to have hurt Sandra.You very good being an over protective mother.
