Yes or maybe it was like Somers mothers lawyer said on that show.He acted out on his perversions.Never did it before and wouldn't again.I am interested in if he had ever filmed, took pictures, abused other children before if he didn't kill any one before. It might have been a first time thing.I said before maybe the killer didn't expect Somer to fight back as hard as she did if Somer did fight back.

IMO having child porn at 15 or 16yo or younger (locked up), as described by perp's dad, is acting out on a perversion - maybe the 'acting out' on a perversion escalates with time and gets to be more hands on. I tend to doubt that child porn can satisfy an adolescent on into adulthood without escalation. Since I don't know much about porn, that's just a guess and mho

Hard to tell with this guy, the guy Auntie calls the 'Pillsbury Dough Boy', that reference alone gives us an idea of how he was treated. mho Seems he has lived a quiet pathetic life in an ever changing family structure (not much of a record). He had no predictability in his world and that makes for a lot of 'making up your own rules'.

I am very grateful to the girl and her father who turned his computer into police, they had to take lie detector tests and the entire process must of been horrendous. moo

I can get copies of my checks on line in seconds. I really don't get it. Really.

Me, for one, is happy LE can't get my checks in seconds. I have nothing to hide, but can you imagine if there were no laws protecting our rights! Yikes!!!!!

I get the defense regarding LE. I would personally like to know if they have a backlog of computers that would result in a computer being turned over on August 10, determining on Sept 25 that it was worth looking further into and then the forensic folks not receiving the computer until October 9.

Time was of the essence with this dude. Did he know that his computer was in the hands of LE??? When was the arrest warrant issued for the child porn again??

I think the wheels were turning slowly-maybe that is par for the course. And maybe this will change if it turns out this guy murdered Somer. It is unfortunate that her case might have had to be the learning curve however...just sayin.

Of course. But the post above regarding why it took time to tie it to JH makes sense, especially given the circumstances surrounding how the computer came to be turned over to LE. IIRC, the roommates kicked him out after he allegedly stole something from them (cellphone, I think). It's not out of the realm of possibility if there was bad blood between them and JH that they could have planted this stuff on his computer. At least LE would have to look at it that way and rule out everything else in order to pin this directly on him.

The article also mentioned a similar computer analysis that was done in a matter of a week, for the Thompson investigation.

Let's hope someone did not drop the ball, and sat on the computer for months before digging further into it, or sending it to the right agency.

But, it may turn out, when things are said and done, that LE had done their part in investigating the guy, but they were not arresting him in order to get more evidence before making their move.

I guess we just have to sit and wait for those answers.

But the attorney generals office said if CCSO would have asked, the investigation could have been done on the computer in 1 week.

Again, I think that boils down to CYA, but IDK.

I agree; I don't see how it's possible this could have been completed in "less than a week", especially given what was described in the post above.

Try getting copies of bank records that don't belong to you.

Seemed like the Patriot Act did away with many of our digital privacy rights. I'm not sure & I'm not a lawyer, but that was the impression I got.

btw - My identity and a bunch of $$ got swiped 2 weeks before Christmas, so please -- y'all be careful and stay aware of any announced security breaches. [i.e., Univ of Fla patient records containing names, SS#s, addys, bank/cc info were accessed by non-Univ employees about a year ago.]

I'm glad the charges against him won't come from an investigation that took less than a week. Can you imagine the number of criminal defense attorneys that would trying to get him free on a technicality? The case would be dismissed and the criminal walks! mho.

I'm sure many of us have the same question - if LE did have their eyes on this guy way back in Aug. Sept. Oct, why was Somer murdered?

OT, but...

Nowadays the only defense against identity theft is having REALLY bad credit.

LE would have to get a court order. Wouldn't you think that child porn would be enough material for a court order?

A regular citizen can't, but I betcha LE can.

Assuming that the porn was bought online, and not downloaded for free, the transaction was most possibly done by credit/debit card, which is easier to trace than checks... specially if there is a warrant.

The computer could have been processed in a week, but that's just the hard drive of the computer. It's just the gathering off information off the computer and doesn't include the detective part of the work. After the computer is process, every piece of information that looks like it might lead to something has to be investigated. Imagine all the web sites you have been to and all the searches you have done on your computer, your computer will store bits and pieces of all that information (unless it's been formatted). That's a lot of information to investigate. On top of that, subpoenas are issued and another 30 days added to the detective part of the process.

Once they get all that information back, it has to be processed and it might lead to additional sources of information...more subpoenas go out. Another 30 days passes. Thoroughly investigating a computer takes a great deal of time. There are the easy obvious things like we seen in the Casey Anthony case but there are the not so obvious things as well. This guy was a "gamer", I would imagine he also knew how to use a fake IP address, that makes it even harder to investigate and trace because they have to get information from the routing IP.

It's complicated and it's time consuming, due process must also be followed. There is a procedure and a set of rules for everything in law ("The Code of Criminal Procedure" in most states). If those rules are not followed precisely, it can blow the whole case.

The 2 women across the street from poi have had their house up for sale claiming they were spooked by him & that's why they're moving..So, did they ever go to LE about him after Somer went missing?

Did the poi ever try to get his puter back? IOW! Did he know LE had it & why?

Was the reason he waited over 3 months to leave town come from the warning to be on the lookout for this?

If he is the perp he probably thought he got away with it cos there was enough reason to at least bring him in for questioning & as far as we know they never did.

As horrible as it is there is a lot of child porn out there and much more than found on JH's computer. Just google "child porn arrest in fl" There have been so many arrest with people possessing and distributing it that LE probably considered JH's 29 counts of possession as small fry compared to the ones arrested in the last couple of years in FL until Somer's death.

I am sure it is not just FL but I googled that state as that was the state JH and Somer lived in.
It is sickening but one document stated there were "There are literally hundreds of websites devoted to sex involving kids."

http://myfloridalegal.com/webfiles.nsf/WF/MRAY-6ZQQW5/$file/MaureenInterview.pdf

This same article stated "Florida ranks third in the nation for the number of child porn images being promoted and distributed."

It appears that some of the bust were in the North FLA area, I wonder if JH can be tied to any of those arrested. Hopefully the info taken from JH's computer will lead to even more charges or arrest for the people he got his porn from I as truly believe that someone that has that interest could very well try to carry out attacks on children.

And like you said before, everyone else who had access to that computer has to be cleared too.

I'm not ready to throw LE under the bus because this computer work wasn't finished until after Somer was murdered.

Sorry I was too vague. My point was that it appears that at least some of the porn on his computer was PURCHASED because the sheriff's office noted that they had to trace financial transactions relating to downloads.

I was just chiming in on the discussion regarding whether the material on his computer was "original" or downloaded from elsewhere.

According to news reports, i.e.: http://www.firstcoastnews.com/news/special/somer/news-article.aspx?storyid=151953&catid=338

Computer turned over to the Jacksonville Sheriff's office - August 10th.

computer turned over to the Clay county Sheriff's office - August 13th.

Computer reaches State Attorney General's office - September 25th.

Computer analysis completed - November 10th.

Computer turned back to Clay county Sheriff's office with official report from SAG's crime unit - November 12th.

Not that it would make a difference in Somer's case, but one has to wonder what happened between November 12th to February 10th, three months.
