JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A grand jury has indicted Jarred Harrell for the kidnapping and murder of 7-year-old Somer Thompson.

The charges include First Degree Murder, Kidnapping, Sexual Battery, and Lewd and Lascivious Molestation.

The indictment claims Harrell killed the 7-year-old girl by "asphyxiation with blunt force injuries." It also explains how Harrell allegedly sexually abused Somer Thompson.

I for one think it is wonderful that a foundation to help other victims has been founded in Somer's name and in her memory. And for so many reasons. For one, something good is coming out of something so evil, Diena will have a meaning and purpose to continue to give her strength and some sense of solace, this charity in her daughter's name will ensure Somer is never forgotten and will, i hope thrive and help victims and their families for many years to come, we know we very sadly cannot prevent this from ever happening again but when it does happen this foundation will be there to help. I see no reason to think anything other then that Diena is doing this to help others who will go through what she has, to do whatever she can in her sweet little sunshine's name and memory, and there any many parents who have gone through the murder of their children who went on to do good work such as this. In no way do I think she is doing this to make money for herself. I say you go woman, you do what you feel you need to do to cope and to keep your little sweet girls memory alive, and for such a good cause.

So he must have beaten her with something then raped and killed her. Poor, poor Somer. What EVIL!

JH is one sick twisted . Just a little girl so tiny and defenseless from this big monster. I am so glad to hear that the death penalty will be sought, he does not deserve to breathe. and when he takes that left breath, he is going straight to hell to burn for eternity.

Somer is up in heaven with the angels, playing with friends,puppies, eating ice cream, swimming in the bluest of seas, looking down on her family, sending them her rays of sunshine,and waiting for the day they will be reunited. This is my belief and it gives me comfort when I feel so sick and sad and angry at the thought of what she had to go through.

When I read count 1 of the Indictment I take it that he killed her with blunt force trauma that caused her not to be able to breath.

I tend to agree, but first we need to prevent them from reproducing! We wouldn't want any of them having children on this island and then repeating their offenses on these innocent children.

That's how I understood it too, Dr. F. The blunt force trauma has to be part of the COD, for it to be there. All I could figure since there's no specification of strangling or smothering is that the blunt force trauma itself is what caused the asphyxiation. And that just makes me cry and cry.

Yes, if he raped her and it looks like he did, they will have good DNA evidence on that! It would be a match! Someone ought to take a match to him and..... God, i have no words, i am not usually a violent person, but i would make an exception!

Okay, I was a little confused because previously when he was charged and I read 794 Sexual Battery, my understanding was that it meant, in essence, rape with an object. This indictment says penile.

I found a different reference site for 794, and looking at 011 2 a, it does appear to include rape with the penis.

Did anyone follow the Samantha Runnion murder? 5 years old and Avila compressed her chest to the point of asphyxiation. This was of course after her raped her violently and brutally ripped her apart. he also used an unnamed object and himself. The MO sounds just the same.
These big cowards sure are sick.
