'It's pure hell not knowing': Mother seeks answers in Okaloosa County missing person case
23 Mar 2021
SBM

“She had called me the 12th and the people she was staying with, she told me ‘Mama something shady is going on here and I don’t feel safe’,”

Annis is homeless and suffers from schizophrenia, a serious mental illness that affects how a person thinks, feels and behaves. That day she had been staying with a family that lived in Crestview, one of the last places she was seen.

“I said ‘Call Mama back in the morning and we’ll figure out something’. Well that call never came,"

Snip

...to ask them to perform a welfare check, but Annis was nowhere to be found. What deputies did find was a gray emoji backpack her mother said she carried everywhere. “It was like her clothes; she carried it everywhere with her. She would not even go to the bathroom without it,” Campbell said.

Sorita's case has been added to The Charley Project.

Medical Conditions Annis suffers from schizophrenia and a substance abuse problem.

Details of Disappearance

Annis was last seen near Clear Creek Road in Crestview, Florida on July 12, 2020. She was homeless at the time of her disappearance, but kept in close touch with family, talking to her mother on the phone almost every day.

On the day of her disappearance, Annis called her mother and said she didn't like the people she was staying with, because "something shady is going on" and she did not feel safe. Her mother suggested she call back in the morning and they'd decide what to do about the situation.

Annis has never been heard from again, and she left behind the backpack of clothes she normally carried with her everywhere. She left behind three children. Her mother stated in spite of her mental health issue and her substance abuse history, it's not like her to drop out of sight without warning.

My heart goes out to her mother (parents/grandparents?) and children. I hope LE can obtain some search warrants quickly. She would be endangered-missing due to her medical history, in my opinion.

She left behind her backpack and three children? And she’s been missing for almost two years?

Sorry on my end, I wasn't paying attention to the date when I made my comment. I thought this case was from 2022. Darn, that means LE didn't find strong evidence back in 2020... Nevertheless, I hope she will be located very soon.

If she talked to mom every day, she did have a cell phone? Couldn't the phone be pinged? Were the people she was staying with identified and interviewed?
