The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the discovery of human remains in the woods off Florida 207 near Silver Lane.

The Sheriff’s Office’s Major Crimes Unit was called to the area near the entrance to the Silver Creek senior living community and about 1½ miles west of U.S. 1 Sunday night after someone called in to say they thought they had found a body, officials said.

Sunday’s search was called off due to darkness and with very dense and swampy terrain. Searchers returned to the area Monday.

St. Johns County Sheriff’s Deputies said a neighbor first spotted the body on Sunday, but that the body had likely been there for days.

Action News Jax Courtney Cole went back into the wooded area, to give you a look at the where investigators spent hours collecting evidence. Cole discovered a pretty expansive homeless camp.

At this time, the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office has not confirmed if the person found is from the homeless community.Cole also spoke to a neighbor who said she wants more details about this investigation— for the sake of her family’s safety.

On Monday night, the Silver Creek Senior Living Community sent this statement:

Silver Creek Senior Living Community is saddened to learn that a body was found near our St. Augustine facility. While we and our residents have no connection to the situation, we recognize that the deceased is likely to have loved ones who will be deeply affected by their loss. We will keep all who are involved in our thoughts and prayers.

I don't see any updates but I'm sure the medical examiner is busy.

Here we are on October 11, 2019 with no updates on this yet. I live just a few blocks from there and have contacted LE and media outlets with zero response.

I know. There's no NAMUS page yet. It's very strange.

Is it possible they identified this person and determined cause of death to be natural causes and just closed the book? Strange there’s been no follow ups

Possible but I would expect a NamUS page so the remains could be tracked and identified. Unless the family was easy to find and asked for no media.

I wish there were updates on this case. The body was found on the State Road 207, near where Martha Lambert disappeared

I wonder if they’ve made an identification of the remains? They were found in close proximity to the area 12 year old Martha Jean Lambert disappeared from in 1985.

It does seem unusual that after a year there’s been nothing.

Oh perfect. Thank you! I copied in the OCR text at the bottom and it's always weird formatting but easier to read than the article sometimes.
