Stanley Everett Rice, 1942-2007
Known as the “stuttering drifter", Stanley Everett Rice was a pedophile and serial killer who murdered three young boys between 1963 and 1968. He is also known to have photographed and molested countless others.
Rice’s modus operandi was to scout area swimming and fishing holes (riverbanks, canals, ponds, and lakes), where he would seek out young boys, engage them in conversation, isolate them under false pretense, and then use a firearm to force them to strip naked, pose for photographs, and perform sexual acts. Along with a concealed firearm, Rice always carried a camera to document his perversions and wrote about his exploits in diaries. Media reports from 1968 state, “The Broward County sheriff Michell said that Rice had made statements implicating himself not only in the Broward County slaying and the killings of young boys in Ohio and Canada, but in other places in the East, as well.”
Known murders:
● Keith Henry, Waterloo, Ontario (aged 9) on July 12, 1963
-Murdered and buried on the bank of the Grand River (body never recovered)
● Tim Trask, Findlay, Ohio (aged 8) on June 15, 1966
-Murdered and hidden on the bank of the Blanchard River near Riverside
City Park
● Lowell ‘Nelson’ Williams, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida (aged 11) and attempted murder of William’s best friend, Kevin Polittle (aged 10) on May 12, 1968
-Murder occurred on the bank of the Dania River Canal
On May 25, 1968 Rice was arrested for speeding in Broward County by two sheriff's deputies. One of the men noticed that he resembled the facial composite of Williams' supposed killer and also had a stutter, which led them to arrest him. Upon searching his car, the deputies found thesawed-off shotgun and his camera, which contained photographs of naked underage boys. After talking to witnesses, they conclusively confirmed that Rice was at the pond on the day of the murder. During questioning, Rice confessed to killing Williams, but also disclosed that he had killed four other boys in Ontario and Ohio. In addition to that, he revealed that he had a hidden stash of pornographic photos and weapons in a barn near his hometown, and upon inspecting it, Concord police officers were able to verify his claims.
Rice admits to killing four other boys in Ontario and Ohio as well as others after his apprehension in 1968 where he was arrested for the slaying of Lowell Nelson Williams. One of these murders was Keith Henry in 1963 and another was Tim Trask in 1966. The police utilized the found cache of photographs found in Concord Mass to confirm his whereabouts.Investigators in Findlay, Ohio were able to link Rice to the killing of Tim Trask through a photograph that was taken in 1966 and found in his cache showing Rice posing with a miniature train in Riverside Park close to where Trask was found murdered.
In his diary, he mentions the following post:
"February, 21, 1966: Saw two 10 year olds near the Globe building and conned them into going out on the point. We stopped on the way back
and built a fire, and during that hour! tried to get them to do something. Was afraid to force them as I I knew a man
was prowling around the area, but just as they were leaving, I couldn't help myself and pumped a .32 into the better of the two's back. It was a beautiful" setup but for that one guy or I would have really lived it up. Haven't heard anything about the shooting so don't know how it turned out. The bullet got him beautifully in the heart area from behind, right in the spinal cord. You could see that sexy bullet-hole very beautifully and it was all I could tio from "letting myself go and emptying the gun into the other 9 year old who was right there. Good thing I didn't as that
guy was close enough so he'd hear the other 5 shots."
I cannot find any information in newspaper archives from this date or around this date for a young boy that was shot in this manner. I am looking for help identifying the child shot as well as the location.
