Three years after a Florida mother was fatally shot and her 1-year-old daughter left for dead in a hot car, a murder suspect has been captured by authorities.

Doujon Duwayne Griffiths, 23, who has been wanted since 2021 in connection with the alleged murders of 20-year-old Massania Malcolm and her 1-year-old daughter Jordania, was arrested after a traffic stop in Linden, N.J., the Orange County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement to PEOPLE.

Last week, an Orange County grand jury formally indicted Doujon Griffiths for First Degree Murder (with a Firearm), First Degree Murder, Attempted First Degree Murder (with a Firearm) and three counts of Shooting at, within, or into a Building.


Just after 5am on September 7, 2021, Griffiths shot and killed a woman in a vehicle after shooting and injuring a man. 20-year-old Massania Malcolm was shot while inside a friend’s car outside their apartment on Lake Heritage Circle.

Griffiths left the woman’s baby, 1-year-old daughter Jordania, in the vehicle without calling for help. The vehicle was discovered two days later in a parking lot on Lake Ellenor Drive with the one-year-old child dead inside.

Investigators quickly identified the suspect as Doujon Duwayne Griffiths, who was 21 at the time. Malcom's boyfriend referred to Griffiths as a friend, and investigators found out he had been living with the family since he found himself homeless.

For years, the case went unsolved. Even though officials offered rewards for information about Griffiths and said they received many tips about his whereabouts, they were never able to track him down.

On Tuesday, more than two years after Malcom and her daughter were found dead, OCSO announced that Griffiths had been caught.
