The investigators have been searching other places, many believe the truck story was a red herring. Listen to the Podcast, it is very revealing.

Both of them originally set off on foot to get help, but after a time Hartley's friend told her to go back and wait in the truck. Both of them were under the influence of drugs and alcohol at the time.

How is it known that both were under the influence of drugs and alcohol? And what kind of drugs were they taking?

My first impressions of the "friend" who didn't get back in the forest for two days to "find" or look for TH was not a positive one.

Trying to recall from the early days of the search -- IIRC, tracking dogs hit on TH's scent in the truck, but don't recall if they hit on anything near the truck.
