The KlaasKids, a nonprofit child advocacy group that also assists in search and rescue operations, helped organize and direct about a dozen search teams consisting of public volunteers, KlaasKids members, Escambia County Search and Rescue personnel and K-9 units.

Now that I am reoriented...

Two things pop out at me. The parking area is right next to a Trolley stop and a public rest room. How many times have we seen ladies get abducted from public rest rooms. Monday morning quarterbacking, but I would have searched the trash cans right near where her car was found and the rest rooms for dumped personal effects.

The trolley stop also would give access to the entire Pensacola Beach, hotels, businesses and condo's without using the car...at least as far East as the snorkel beach without drawing attention to ones self....if one decided to exit stage right...

Strange about leaving her cellphone in the car.... is that an area where there's no reception? Did it need to be charged? Was what she was wearing prevent her from carrying it (swimsuit?)... Otherwise, don't understand it...

I've never had any cell reception problems on the beach. I also wonder why her bike was left in her car. Maybe it was always in her car?

Laurie Strite with the Klaas Kids Foundation said they've been focusing on searching Fort Pickens, Pensacola Beach and the dunes east of the Portofino Towers toward Navarre.

“We’ve identified items that we’re looking for. Items like a hat that might have blown off or sunglasses. We're looking for anything, besides her car, that will prove she was on this island," Strite said.

wish the media would dig a bit and find out when her car was captured on the ccvid

I hope that they have pulled ccvid from any businesses along the route between her work and her apartment, the beach, etc.

just found this:

"Her car was found right here across the street from where we have command set up," says Ray Mooney who organized Sunday's search.

Her car was driven to the parking lot the night she went missing. Unfortunately, cameras only caught her license plate, not who was in the vehicle. Her cell phone and bicycle were both found inside.

so where was she in between? I would think that would be key imhoo.

Or had the intent of going for a ride and things went south as soon as she parked the car. I keep wondering if she went to the rest rooms before a bike ride...

Thanks for info about reception!

If she were with someone who was forcing her to go with them, would they leave the phone? Usually, perps get rid of victim's phone...

Wonder if phone was operable such that it would NOT appear dead (going directly into vm), instead ring a few times then go into vm, indicating she was busy and phone was okay..

Phone was found in plain view (?) or was it hidden in seat - leaving it as clue for LE...

"If" the phone was left in the car on purpose to give the impression she was still in the area but not answering and later to be pinged so that the car would be located were it to be overlooked in the hasty search, it would seem to indicate very detailed planning. Someone who knew what the Park Rangers would do (hasty search and missing persons alert), what LE would do (ping the phone, process the car and bring in SAR) and what SAR would do (time consuming land search).

Trying not to over think this...but I keep coming back to where the parking area is, the proximity to the rest rooms and water, the two points of egress out of the area by car or by trolley then by car and the sheer number of hotel rooms and condo's.

Past the parking area where the car was found, is there a gate on Fort Pickens Road that is closed by the Park Rangers at night? If so, at what time? Is there an entrance fee?

  • #135
I believe it may have been mentioned earlier but I failed to appreciate it until looking at Google Earth and some historical images on there from 2007, it seems like Fort Pickens road is largely washed out / discontinuous beyond the Ft. Pickens "Entrance Gate" and parking lot.

Not sure what vehicular access is allowed, if any, beyond that gate. I know someone mentioned there had been a lot of rains / flooding recently as well. It seems like it would be a hike of maybe ~1.5mi to get to the fort from the entrance?

So this would be the last possible parking area on the West end.

Now the bike in the car makes sense. Wonder if she planned a 3 mile bike ride to Fort Pickens and back? Did she plan to meet another rider?

The road to Ft Pickens has been repaired but it did have water over it sunday when we were searching. Not sure if it was closed down that day. If there is a storm in the gulf or horrible weather sometimes they will close down the park and make all of the campers leave.
I am very disappointed in our local news people as they are not contacting the police and asking questions. Of course this is the last big weekend for tourist dollars so no one here will raise a stink. Maybe they will start doing their job after this weekend. Did I mention that I dislike our local news. :-) They get their stories from the AP so maybe if we can get some national attention they will report on it.
Questions I have are: What time did she get to the beach. Did they look at the Cams going through Gulf Breeze? Back story on that is there is a 3 mile bridge you cross to get to Gulf Breeze and then the Bob Sikes to get over to the beach. Gulf Breeze gets it's funding by giving tickets and I think there are a lot of Cams on that road for traffic accidents and back ups going to the beach. Did they pull those cams and look to see if you can find who was driving her vehicle?
Exactly when did the vehicle get to that parking area? People who live in the Condo right there said not until the day it was found. One guy said he walks his dog 4 times a day with 12am being the last time and he said her vehicle wasnt there.
Were her paintings in her truck?
What activity was on her phone/email? work email?
Have they called people who were camping? Yes you have to show your driver's license to camp in the park and there is an entrance fee to get into the park.
What have you found that belonged to her and where was it found
Have you searched the Ft McRee area? Fort McRee - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Ft McRee was on the other side of the entrance to the Pensacola Pass. On weekends tons of people boat, kayak, jet ski over to hang out. Not really a fort there but there are some structures that are pretty much grown over. Nifty place!
Ok if they would just get the answer to those questions I would be a little happier! WEAR TV 3 doesnt even mention that she is missing anymore :-( They think a few half 🤬🤬🤬 done stories is good enough!

I noticed online that it seems the trolley is free during the summer as well? So one could drive the car over, park it, and leave the area fairly anonymously...

Assuming she drove it there, and left the bike and the cell phone in the car, the only time I leave my cellphone in the car at the beach is when I'm going in the water and I don't want to forget it in a pocket - did that once at the lake. It seems like if she was headed to the fort, she would've taken the bike, unless it was very windy, or she was with a second person who didn't have a bike.

Another possibility is that she stopped, and immediately went to the bathroom, and never made it back to the car...

Just spit-balling here, I know some of it is a rehash. Really want to know if she drove the car to the beach or not, really wish we knew why she left work early.

We had Hurricane Ivan in Sept. 2004 and then Dennis in July 2005 and Ft. Pickens was closed to vehicles for several years (I believe 4-5 years), but eventually re-opened to vehicles. I took my 4 DS the first weekend they were back open -- we were so excited! :)

Since then, there have been very few storms (knock on wood!) that have washed out the roads there. We had a bad tropical storm last fall (something that began with an I -- maybe Isaac?). Schools were closed for a few days and the roads at Ft. Pickens were washed out and campers were stranded there for 3-4 days. I think that's why they closed the park a few weekends ago, just to be cautious.

The last time I was at Ft. Pickens was sometime in May and I had no problem driving around all the way to the end (which is where the visitor's center is). Here is a map: http://www.nps.gov/guis/planyourvisit/upload/Nov 09 for Roxanne.jpg

Also, someone asked about hours of operation:

Area is open daily from 7:00 am until sunset. Fort Pickens Visitor Center (Seasonal Hours) Fort Pickens Museum open 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

(snip) http://www.nps.gov/guis/planyourvisit/hours.htm

AFAIK, you can still walk and bike over after they are closed.

Stopping to go to the restroom as mentioned ^^ seems the most straight forward reason for leaving phone, bike, (anything else) in her car. As Trackergd mentioned, restroom attacks are something to consider. Wonder if LE looked into that?
