State is arguing these mitigating factors:
1. age
2. defendant loves Tristan more than anything in the world.
3. Adams dedication to Tristan is the only reason Adam came to Florida and is in this situation.
4. Life in prison means life without the possibility of parole.
5. Adam was raised by a single mother with a mental disability.
6. Adam never knew his father.
7. Adam would be left alone with his brother from a pre teen age.
8. The love of Adams mother, brother, and extended family.
9. Adam grew up in poverty, moved often
10. Adam grew up with his mother having frequently changing boyfriends.
11. As a child Adam suffered from extreme asthma requiring emergency room treatment.
12. Adams mother took a two week vacation to South America when they were 10 and 12.
13. Adam experienced an extreme bearing with a blind.
14. Adam was a huge support in helping aunt Nancy with her rehab.
15. Adams courtroom demeanor. Always respectful and polite.
16. Adam graduated from high school
17. Adam graduated from dj school commuting daily motivated by supporting his son.
18. Adam endured uncertainty on whether he was the father of Tristan
19. Adam tried to work and support Tristan by walking up to four miles to work while in Florida.


I️ just jotted down what he said he would discuss right now. Others will be discussed once they are mentioned by defense.

Edit- apparently they won’t talk again. I️ was wrong. Ignore me LOL. I️ thought I️ heard him say he would talk about things the defense brings up later. But he just said this will be the only time we will hear from the state.

I️ agree state is nailing it. Just brought up that if anyone can understand how Adam grew up it’s his brother. He talks about how his brother has a nice family, stable career in the military, etc.

He is starting with Maggie. He’s got the hammer in his hand right now that was used to kill Maggie.

Bring up the shoes and the slip up he said earlier about Maggie kicking off her shoes. So glad he said that. I️ caught it right away. No point in tying her up if she’s dead.

State is going in order to what he believes happened. Moves on to Nick.
Swinging the hammer around while he talks “I’m only at about 9 right now by the way” demonstrating how long it takes to get to 21.

State is still talking about aggravating factors. He’s moved on to Greg. Discussing that Greg knows what is happening and is trying to get his guns to protect Megan and Tristan.

Describing how Greg must have felt knowing that once he’s shot megan won’t be saved.

“Megan’s last day alive was full of terror”

State describing her 911 and her terror. Showing/reading the text messages to jimmy. Reminding them that Adam smashed the phone so we can’t see what he wrote to her.

Moving on to the questionnaire and answering each question on there. Going over his points as to why they should answer each one the way he says.


Explaining the aggravating vs the mitigating factors.

Last question- do you unanimously find that this person should be sentenced to death. State explains that in theory you can have a different answer for each victim, but goes on to explain why they shouldn’t.

“Life in prison without parole is the minimum sentence”

“This is a case that warrants the most severe penalty the law can impose”

I️ have to make pie crust while watching the defense so I’ll come back and edit anything that I️ hear that might be of interest. I️ expect he will go down the list that they discussed yesterday and what the state discussed this morning. I️ can’t imagine they have anything life altering to say.

ASA Bryan Sarabia runs down aggravators and mitigators jury must consider in #AdamMatos sentencing: I don't know if there is a mitigation that outweighs another life and there are three other lives aggravating each of these murders


ASA Bryan Sarabia just finished closing arguments in sentencing hearing for quadruple murderer #AdamMatos, tells jury death penalty is only appropriate sentence and "still far more merciful than what this defendant put any one of those people through."

Just tuned in between appointments to hear the defense start their opening with 'If not for the love of his son, this wouldn't have happened'...sorry, but I don't understand this. He murdered the family of his son that his son loved with him in the house & left him alone in that house with the aftermath & dead bodies.
