GUILTY FL - Wayne Treacy for savage beating of 15yo girl, Deerfield Beach, 17 March 2010

  • #121
i find that ridiculous........they charge 13 year olds and younger with first degree murder, so why not as an accomplice?

She is being held as an accessory.

  • #122
maybe shes being held as one but she will probably get a sweetheart deal or get tried as a juvy

Neither of them looks at all remorsfull! In the News video that Swag linked it appears to me as if the girl is trying to cover herself with her hair because she is smiling! Where are the parents in all of this? Why aren't their parents coming out and denouncing what they did? Remember the girl that got beat up by the 5 ( I think) other girls and they video taped it in FL a year or 2 ago. Most of the accused parents came out and either said my kid is innocent or I am sorry for what happened or something. I have yet to see anything out of the perps parents.

IMO a suicide watch really isn't that big a deal. Many times it's something done if the jail only suspects something could be attempted and since his brother did commit suicide that could be another reason to be extra cautious.

Thanks, Swaggie, for all of the updates.

The 911 caller kept asking for police, which made me wonder if there are SROs at the middle schools down there?

Here, due to budget cuts, they are no longer at the elementary schools, but they are still at the middle and high schools.
As far as the SRO - yes there was one - I think. We have cut way back here too but the middle schools have at least one. He obviously wasn't around - maybe attending to something else or on a different part of the campus - not sure. Haven't really heard it addressed - all I've heard is that the school did, in fact, have an SRO.

This was at / just after dismissal. I've been around alot of middle schools - especially the bigger ones down here (my kids middle school held 1500!). Josie was attacked in the bus turn around - at dismissal - THERE SHOULD HAVE BEEN QUITE A FEW ADULTS THERE! They are assigned morning and afternoon duty - however, thanks to our wonderful B roward T eachers U nion (fondly called the BTUseless) alot of teachers don't follow any duty schedule. And its quite obvious that there were very few adults in this bus loop - which is unexcusable!

Not that I'm blaming the school - but they are negligent in providing security and supervision - especially in this event.

There were at least three teachers in the area but it happened very fast.
"Welsh said there were at least three teachers and staff in the school bus area last Wednesday. He added that teachers often volunteer their time to make sure the process runs smoothly. He said he is always looking out for potential problems between students, but the attack on Ratley came out of nowhere."

Since this was just Treacy out of the blue going after Josie, I would think it would have been hard to see it coming. Not like it was a small gang doing their walk towards the intended victim. KWIM

Thankx jjenny - I hadn't read that report.

I just looked up the enrollment for Deerfield Middle - total enrollment is 1207.

That is a very large number and for only 3 adults in the mix - not nearly enough IMO. My kids and I were talking about it over the weekend and guesstimating how "long" he beat her before that one male teacher got there and pulled him off. Maybe 3 minutes - 4? Try hitting your hand on your desk and see how many times you can get within even 2 minutes! Quite a bit.

Our schools down here are in turmoil - have been for several years now. The school "bored" doesn't care in the least about our children. Even though they should be first on their list - they aren't. The corruption is rampant.

The blame for this rests squarely on WT's shoulders with KM standing right behind him. However, like I said yesterday, the school was negligent in its supervision and security.

Three adults to supervise a bus loop in a school with over 1200 population is nothing. Plus the SRO - in the middle school my kids went to - the SRO's would have their marked cars parked at the only two exits - even during dismissal. While they weren't checking ID's at dismissal time - they were out of their cars and standing at the exits with very watchful eyes. How WT got on campus and was then "escorted" to the bus loop I don't know. I'm not familiar with this particular middle school.

Ask yourself - if this was your child - on school grounds, waiting for her bus when she is so savagely attacked and damn near killed - then only to find out well there were 3 adults around? Around where? Wouldn't you sue? I sure would - at least for the medical costs and pain and suffering for Josie.

This never should have happened. And you can bet heads are rolling at that school because it did.

I certainly hope that Josie's Mother will file suit against the School/District. Cannot imagine what the medical costs are and will continue to be.

Also could this have been prevented though? I've always been a Mom to furbabies so I'm no expert in any school issues, but what can be done when an attack like this happens? It was out of the blue. If just one of the students/friends had warned of this attack, it could have been prevented.

I read some very disturbing things last night on Facebook under 'Wayne Treacy: We Believe in You'. The most vile and disgusting comments personally I have ever read about a victim in my life. It got me thinking about the people who knew what he was going to do. I assume LE has his phone with all of the texts he sent that day. There has to be accountability in this case. I find it appalling that anyone would know of his plan and not alert someone at the School, Josie and LE.

But from what I read if this was any indication of Treacy's friends/associates no wonder something like this happened. I am surprised it took this long.

See what I mean about our "schools" here! This just showed up about 10 minutes ago. There are many, many, many more that DON'T make the newspaper as the school "bored" tries to squelch everything. Don't want any negative publicity now do we?

Hollywood police arrest boy, 14, accused of punching girl, 12, on school bus

By Alexia Campbell, Sun Sentinel

9:32 a.m. EDT, March 23, 2010
HOLLYWOOD
A middle school student was arrested Tuesday morning after he was accused of beating up a girl on their school bus.

The bus had stopped to let students off at McNicol Middle School when a 14-year-old boy on board began punching a 12-year-old girl, said Hollywood Fire Rescue Division Chief Mark Steele.

Both are students at the middle school at 1602 S. 27th Ave., police said. Their names are not being released because of their ages.

After the fight, the boy ran into a nearby neighborhood and was chased by the school resource officer, according to Police Lt. Scott Pardon. The officer caught the teen, who was arrested on battery charges

OMG

What is going on there? This is ridiculous. I live in NC and you hear of things but not this many. I tell you there is something wrong with so many children and I believe it lands squarely back in the parents lap.

There is absolutely no excuse for this type of violence !! Deceased brother or not. For anyone to even try to make excuses for this type of behavior, well I'll just leave that one alone..

I don't think anyone is trying to excuse his behavior. Have you been the parent of a child who is bullied? Who is to say that this girl was not bullying and making fun of him and his deceased brother? Add to the mix what he was dealing with after finding his own brother hanging and the stress of school.. it is not surprising he snapped. I'm sure there were signs ahead of time. Why didn't someone reach out to him? None of that excuses what he did and even if the girl did "bully" him, she did NOT deserve this treatment. However, I don't believe anyone should jump to ANY conclusion until we know the whole story. I'm thinking he was in need of help and for whatever reason, no one saw. As a result, this girl paid the price. If I have learned one thing from WS, it is that so many crimes could have been prevented if someone had just paid attention!!

That shot of her being wheeled away by paramedics . . . they were bagging her (breathing for her) . . . she is indeed critically injured. He stomped her so badly she stopped breathing.

At the same time, I can imagine the agony of a boy finding his brother hanging, and the nasty meanness of middle school kids who really go for the jugular. NOTHING justifies stomping another person practically to death. But I can see how this boy was ready to blow. I can see how he completely lost it and went blind with rage. What a tragedy for the families, a tragedy that seems to me more about the age of the kids, their lack of understanding of consequences, dealing with horrors they have no coping skills for :(

Thank you for expressing what I was trying to say, only you said it much better! Kids this age are CRUEL and who knows what he had been through before this incident. Again, not excusing his repulsive behavior, just able to understand it.

Sheriff: Teen Suspect Sent Apathetic Text After Girl Beating
Wayne Treacy took time to text friend in wake of horrific beating

Updated 9:45 AM EDT, Tue, Mar 23, 2010

Broward's top cop said accused text message beating suspect Wayne Treacy had time to coldly text a friend in the moments after he beat 15-year-old Josie Ratley within an inch of her life.

"In fact, he sent another text message to someone saying 'Hey, I think I'm going to prison, I think I just killed someone,' so it just was a matter of fact thing, like oh well, this is what it is," Sheriff Al Lamberti said during an appearance on this morning's "Today Show."

The fact that this was so premeditated, the fact that he rode his bike for 3 miles to beat this girl, the fact that he had NO REMORSE whatsoever, makes me think that no amount of "reaching out" would have helped. Some people are just born psychopaths.

ITA you know really horrible things happen to people who do not go on and try to stomp someone to death. I am sorry his brother killed himself but much worse things have happened to people . Something is obviously very wrong with this guy that he could plan all this out get on his steel toes and bike 3 miles in attempt to kill this girl over a text message. I am not even convinced that it was Josie who sent the disparaging message and not the 13 year old. I honestly think that this would have been hard to prevent and admire the teacher who was able to stop the beating probably saving Josie's life. We live in a small town and my son's middle school has a SRO as did his last middle school that was in an even smaller town. We are very lucky to have the SRO and many teachers making sure everyone gets where they need to go safely but even at my sons school which consist of about 700 things are wild in the afternoons with all the students waiting on their rides.

wow that sure sounds like excuses to me :(

If not excuses, at least the usual, "Reasons to shift the blame to other people or things out of the perpetrator's control."

It pretty much has the same effect as an outright excuse - ask any defense atty, or listen to any kid trying to justify his offenses.
