Funny you bring that up Kateyes, on the 11 o'clock new tonight, they interviewed her attorney and her mom. They said one thing that Micheal Brewer's family told them was to play recordings of people's voices that were familar to her. They said they have now started to do that.

The swelling on the left side of her brain has not gone down - however, the right side swelling has. The doctors aren't going to do much more until that left side swelling goes down - that's what her attorney said tonight.

Prayers for Josie and for Michael tonight.

I heard him say that as well and I can't help but wonder if the DR'S gave her poor Mother some not so promising news since she had to be sedated a couple of days ago. KWIM It just does not sound or look to good to me.

Praying for a miracle for Josie.

This is just a "feel" I get from this...I think the 13 year old deflected her angry boyfriend over to Josie

I think she may have been the one to text about the brother...or told Josie to text something about him

when the angry crazy guy came rushing over to the school, the 13 year old pointed out Josie so that he would not start beating her up

this is such a tragedy....it does not sound good for poor Josie, and I don't think it is the fault of the school...the guy didn't even go there

I think it happened so fast that no one could really stop him

the blame has to go where it belongs....on the boy and also on the 13 year old who "set up" Josie

one nice thing about Florida : our courts are not afraid to charge these young monsters as adults

I hope and pray that Josie will recover...I am sure that it will be a long and hard recovery and I pray for strength for her and her family to get through this and that justice will be served for her

ITA with you on this. Josie was a totally innocent victim in this tragedy and believe it will be more than shocking when the entire truth comes out. Which I pray it will.

Deerfield Beach girl `had no idea' brutal attack would occur, family says

The family and attorney for 13-year-old Kayla Manson spoke out for the first time on Thursday, telling NBC's ``Today'' show that Manson had no idea Wayne Treacy was going to brutally beat her friend, Josie Ratley.

``We believe she absolutely had no idea this was going to happen,'' attorney Jonathon Marne said.

I believe that the physicians most likely told the mother that all has been done that can be done at this point, and only time will tell how much Josie will recover,if at all. As an RN I heard that told to families many times. As a mother I would most likely become very distraught upon hearing that - as I can imagine Josie's mother did. The hardest thing for any family to hear is that there is nothing more medically/surgically that can be done. Josie is now in that limbo - truly, IMHO, recovery, or near recovery to her pre-injury status will be miraculous. I am praying for just that to happen, as are many websleuthers.

they are trying to save her butt from a murder rap, cause that's sadly how this most likely ends up :(

Sadly that is what I was thinking Kateyes and thank you again for your medical expertise.

After watching the video all I can say is :waitasec:

I understand their trying to save her but come on. They appeared very detached from the real situation at hand.

I can hardly blame the parents for "trying" . . . but if I were that girl's mother, I'd make damn sure I could drag her little 🤬🤬🤬 to the bedside of that poor broken child every single day. I'd find SOME way to inundate her with the suffering of Josie on a daily basis.

One thing strikes me .....the 13 yr old knew this guy was coming over, angry, violent, threatning...

why didn't she warn Josie, even if it meant going back into the school and
going to principal, or the security officer there and getting protection for the 2 of them??

I strongly feel that this kid was deflecting the violent guy to Josie to spare herself

Of course her family will defend her but my "hinky" feel is that this kid directed this monster to Josie to spare herself

"she's the one who texted you, wasn't me, there she is" ...Just my "feel" about this

The privacy laws under HIPPA have changed so many things. I am thankful that Josie's attorney advised the family to release pictures of Josie in her hospital bed. I am sure he wanted the public to see the truly heinous injuries Josie suffered at the hands of this teenage boy.(trying to be nice) When I was younger (without aging myself) groups of young people were often taken through the hospitals to see firsthand the results of drinking and driving, etc. Sadly, in today's current climate, what young people need to see is the result of the inability to control their emotions, especially anger. Every young person needs to see pictures of Josie, not only now, but later. Later, when she is either recovering, or when she is not showing improvement. All need to see the results of her injuries, and the suffering she endured, and that of her family and friends.

Apparently Josie herself received a text message from him on what he was going to do.
I am guessing if that is true, then even Josie herself didn't take it seriously, or presumably she would have asked for help.
"Josie Lou Ratley even received text messages from Treacy claiming he was going to "snap" her neck at Deerfield Beach Middle School. "

Judge gags lawyers and BSO in Deerfield Beach beating case

Lawyers and the Broward Sheriff's Office have been barred, for now, from talking publicly about the case against Wayne Treacy, the Deerfield Beach High School student accused of trying to kill a girl over an insensitive text message.

Broward Circuit Judge Elijah Williams issued a temporary order stopping prosecutors, the Broward Sheriff's Office, defense lawyers and a civil attorney from releasing details about the allegations against Treacy, 15, who is in a juvenile detention center facing an attempted murder charge.

Treacy's lawyer, Assistant Public Defender Betsy Benson, is seeking a permanent gag order after seeing "repeated, chronic and in-depth national and local coverage" of the case, which has been featured on NBC's "Today" show and CNN's "Larry King Live."

A hearing on Benson's request is scheduled for April 6.

In her motion, Benson expressed concern that too much potential evidence in the case has been made public, threatening Treacy's right to a fair trial. She specifically mentioned text messages allegedly sent by Treacy before and after the assault as well as photographs of the victim, Josie Lou Ratley, 15, a Deerfield Beach Middle School student who has been in a medically induced coma for more than a week.

"Wayne Treacy's due process rights will be fundamentally compromised," Benson wrote in her motion. She said the released information would taint a jury pool and foster a "lynch mob type mentality in the community" against her client.

Well I say shut them down. Do not want anything standing in the way of justice for Josie.

Since he doesn't have a history of that sort of thing, I doubt the 13 year old would know what he is capable of either.

If that is true, then all Josie received was a flat text message - no demeanor, no body language, no facial expression, no tone of voice, none of those other clues - which the 13 year old with Treacy did receive for a period of time as she accompanied him. Further, the 13 year old directed Treacy to Josie, and then stood there and watched Treacy attack her, and to all reports, did nothing to attempt to stop him.

If we even dismiss everything that happened up until Treacy's fist met Josie's head the first time, at that point, the 13 year old knew exactly what he was doing. She watched him punch Josie until she fell down, she watched him bash Josie's head on the cement walk approximately 7 times, and then she watched him kick Josie's head with steel toed boots over and over and over.

She knew what he was doing, and she did nothing to stop him.

As far as I can tell, none of the other students tried to stop him either, and it certainly looks like there were other students watching.
